Jay was in shock by whatever had just gone down. The young male had just witnessed an attempt to overturn the authority of the pack. While he backed Meikou as his alphess, he could not help but wonder if change was what they really needed. After all, the pack had made little to no progress since Xinelil had been murdered. As much as he did not respect Kadhi right now, Jay felt a little inclination to back the little brute in his efforts. But what Jay opted to do was keep his mouth shut. Unless he was forced to pick a side, he was going to stay back until he was called upon.
This is the last thing we need is more trouble, he thought anxiously, and here Kadhi goes looking to stir up trouble. The little moron just about got his ass whooped by me. How is he going to hold his own as the alpha of Aldgar? Jay's thoughts then drifted to Meikou. Sure, Xin left her in charge, but what has become of the pack since then? Honestly, it fell to pieces. It was only me and her, and I only stuck around because I felt an obligation not to let Xin's work crumble in his wake. So what, is it just that she is a horrible alphess or that it was one stroke of bad luck on top of another? He could not figure out which situation would be better. This was the most stable pack in terms of leadership that Jay had ever seen. Most packs cycled through alphas like crazy, so he was impressed that only Xinelil and Meikou had been in command since he arrived here. To be honest, the brute had toyed with the idea of attempting to lead the pack himself. It was continually in the back of his mind...
What Jay did not expect was Meikou's reaction. He had barely seen this side of her, the more dominant side. In fact, it may very well have been the first time she had actually looked like an alpha wolf in his eyes. He was flabberghasted. Was this really what it took to kick the pack into gear and get things organized? Here he stood with a new promotion, finally taken from the awful position as a hunter that he was struggling with from day one, and he did not know whether Meikou was alpha or beta. Kadhi and Meikou would have to fight this one out, but if it came to a physical confrontation, he actually feared for Kadhi.
It was only a matter of time before Alearia opened her mouth to put in her oh so blunt input. "You two are fools. Is this really the place to handle an issue such as this? As for you," Alearia tossed a gaze at Meikou, "strange wolves have been wandering the territory since Xinelil's death. The pack has fallen to pieces and it is only now starting to take shape. This one was just a pup then, and now he is a full-grown wolf. He did not turn to you for help, but instead turned to me. How can I take you seriously?" She hooted indignantly before turned to Kadhi. "And you are not much better. You disappear and show up to take over the pack? Why should we trust that you won't allow Aldgar to crumble like it did before? I mean, sure Meikou's attempt to keep the pack together since the last alpha's death was a failure. But are you sure that you have the maturity to lead a pack? Because I sure as hell do not know." She stared at the two, watching each with wariness in her eyes.
