Determination and frustration drove her. She had failed three times with her hunting today and she was getting desperate. Not desperate in starvation, but with a need to impress her pack members. She sprinted across the grass and dirt, her paws pushing off with all the strength she could muster. A squirrel darted around in front of her in a reddish brown blur. He scampered around the ground and leaped off small rocks and tree roots. Haze reached out a paw to snatch the squirrel, her eyes lighting up. Just before she could hook the small mammal's side she found herself tumbling, her feet went up into the air and she skidded across the dirt. Stunned, she opened her eyes and found herself staring at the cause of her demise. A large mangled tree root had caught her paw before she could swipe at her prey.
She jumped to her feet, looking around frantically for the squirrel. A chattering sound up above brought her attention upward to see the squirrel sitting in the crook of two tree branches, high above her reach. Haze let out a small sound of distress before standing up on her hind legs with her front paws against the tree trunk. She stretched her neck out but knew she wouldn't be able to reach the small animal. The squirrel chattered louder, and she knew the animal was laughing at her. Outwitted by a pea brained squirrel.
The silvery female put her paws back onto the ground and examined her surroundings. She found herself no longer in her pack land of Shyia. I must have crossed the border without knowing it. Had she heard the stories of the gypsies that roamed the lands she might have raced out of Tiayr as fast as she could, but being a new wolf to the land of Anikira the stories had yet to reach her ears. Haze shook her long pelt to rid it of the dirt she had picked up from her embarrassing fall. It was bad enough that she would be returning to the pack without any food, but she didn't feel like letting the pack know that she had tripped. She continued to lick the dirt out of her fur, her guard momentarily down.
