Echo felt like an escapee, slinking in the shadows, shying from unfamiliar scents in the air. Why had she come here? Her thoughts had only been to fleeing, escaping. She had never meant to enter this land so rich with smells of unfamiliar forests and meadows and streams. Even the faint smell of wolves lay here, but now that she was here there was no turning back. To stop running meant death, her past would catch up with her, and she would lose the last remaining thing that was hers... all hers and that was her life.
For such a frightening day, the sun was fairly bright, and the wind seemed to dance across the earth, lift in to the air and twirl with the loose leaves against the earth. Echo was a strong believer of Mother Nature, so of course she took it as good omen that the Mother could full the sky with such joy.
The little wolf finally had to slow her neck-break pace, until now she was only walking, head bowed and breathing painfully heavy against her ribs. Had she run far enough, fast enough? She looked at the expanse behind her, the trees off into the distance, the long flowing water she had followed for a while. She could run no further, she could only hope... she couldn’t look behind her now, and obediently her eyes moved forward. She could see open land just ahead, the sweet aroma of flowers cleansing her of her fears for the moment, and she was compelled to walk towards it. The walk to the pretty meadow was only a short one now, despite her exhaustion, and it opened out before her, a saving grace was the first thought to mind as the wind wept delightedly through it, that aroma of flowers was strong here.
She moved further across the open space, finally feeling safe and sound. She could pause and look at the beauty around her. Little birds moved from tree to tree in the forest in the distance, there delightful song breaking the air, carried upon the wind that still seemed to twirl and dance. This had been where the wind had lead her, had it not? But even before the light coated wolf could settle, she was ushered on once more. The wind pushed her, pulled her, urged her forward. Unsure what delights could possibly beat this sea of flowers, she moved on. She moved to the other side, and looked on into the forest. There it was... home, or at least she would try to make it so. Unbelievably, the scent of a pack land sailed towards her and her hopes of a quite home where shattered. She began to slink that little bit further in, waiting for the hostility of pack wolves was an unwelcome thought, one that made her hesitantent to go any further. But she had only known a life in pack lands, and if only there was the chance they would accept her, she could have a home here. But... how could they, how could anyone? She was a monster, he had made that very clear.
The frightened little fae sat herself down, on the outskirts of the scent border. She looked into the pack terratory with wistful eyes but couldn't bring herself to go any further. She simply waited there, in silence, in the silly thought that someone would come along and rescue her.
