His tongue, rolling out of his mouth like a scroll, dipped into the water. The water that was ever so clear. Closing his eyes for a second he began to question if there was truly any water there or if it was just another memory coming back to haunt him. Raising his head Loop saw he was standing mere yards away from a glorious deer. Taking a single step forward his the water rushed over his paw. Grinning rather devilishly he watched as the deer lowered its head into the water and taking a long drink. A young maned wolf stepped out in front of him, her eyes shining brightly. 'She's not real, clearly you're wasting your time going to hunt her!' The female laughed, her playful attitude making him smile. He barely even remembered her name. He paused for a moment as the deer looked around, not seeing him. Maybe the other wolf was right and this was all another memory.
Loop let out a howl and watched as the deer ran away. "You were wrong, she was real." He grinned at her and sat down. Laughing as she circled him for a moment. 'Well I can't see what you see.' He nodded, that was always her response. "I'm sorry I always forget that." She smiled and sat down too before gazing up in surprise, 'I must hurry! I am sorry Loop but I'll see you around.' Being left alone again Loop frowned. A sort of anger filled him as he stood and began to walk down the creek, hoping to run along another deer. His open mouth dipped down into the water again. The stale air all around him was drying his tongue. Licking his snout for a moment he cocked his head as he watched black birds fly up from the trees that leaned over the stream as if trying to protect it from the heat. Even in the fall it felt like the surface of the sun.
Letting out a deep breath of loneliness the Mexican Wolf walked alone. Getting out of the water he sat in the patches of grass that grew along the creek's banks. Closing his eyes to try and rid his sight of the fuzzy overlapping memories he lowered his body to the ground to where his muzzle could reach the water with a little stretching. The grass felt cool beneath him as the shade from above tried to do the same. Moving so that his tongue was fully immersed in the water he let out a sigh, or what he could of one. Hearing a small noise nearby his ears twitched but his body remained calm. Opening his eyes he saw a large Mexican wolf smile and step forward before fading away into the wind. Loop closed his eyes again and smiled on the inside. He loved it when his father stopped by for a chat. It made him feel like the world loved him and that everything was going to be ok. Settling in Loop could feel a nap coming on...
