Toklo padded through the plains, his pawsteps soft and unheard by any other living thing. He moved slowly though, looking for herbs. In his maw, he had a basket of sorts fashioned from twigs and leaves. There wasn't anything in it yet, but there would be. He needed herbs for wounds, colds, and other things. Knowing his sister, he'd need them. She was the worst complainer ever. He stopped, scenting at a few yellow-flowered plants. He bit some of the stems off, tasting them. They numbed his tongue slightly, so he knew that it was a type of painkiller. Picking a few flowers, he placed them in his basket, along with a few roots. He grunted in approval, knowing that this herb could be used for many things.
He snuffled around, his nose on the ground, his tail wagging merrily. This is what he loved to do the best, look for herbs to help those who needed it. Even though he was alone, he wasn't lonely. Besides, he liked hunting for herbs when alone, anyways, as it helped him to concentrate. Yet, the flowered herb seemed to be the only herb in these fields. Disappointed, he sat down with a grumble, scratching lazily behind his left ear. 'Oh well,' he sighed inwardly, his disappointment clouding his face, giving him a rather saddened expression. 'I can always just go to other places. Still, I thought this would be a nice spot...' Toklo mumbled to himself. But, that only proved that he needed to train himself further, which was fine. Besides, this was a new land, with new, different herbs. He'd need to learn more, and he loved to learn.
A whine came from Toklo's maw. Irene. Irene had taught him everything he knew. "I suppose your tutoring will not help here, my love." he whispered sadly, gazing up into the heavens with tears sparkling in his aqua orbs. He closed them, tears starting to roll slowly down his face. He opened his maw, letting out a terribly sad song, singing of his despair and love for that beautiful, dead femme. "I will get no where if I cannot let her go..." he moaned, grieving now with his head lowered towards the earth. It had happened awhile ago, yet still, she was on his mind every single day...
Toklo sighed, sniffing and wiping his face with his paws much like a cat would, to clean it's face. It wouldn't do well for another wolf to come upon him looking so wretched.

Scout trotted along looking for maybe something to eat. He had missed his rabbit earlier today and he was hungry. He padded along careful not to step on any thorns or other pokey things that could lay on the ground. He pointed his head to the sky and took in a big sniff, trying to locate some food. There was a little bid which wasn't worth the effort, some chipmunks that he could play with and a squirrel like creature that was far out of his way. He let out a sigh as his stomach grumbled. Oh, what I wouldn't do for a deer or an elk right now. He was starting to rethink his decision to live his life in solitude. He even saw this coming and he ignored it. He knew that he would have to survive on little food and water. This happened to him quiet frequently. He would make a decision and in the beginning it would be great and then later he would regret it and need to change his plans. When he first left his pack he remembered how amazing it felt, how free he was. Now, he was a slave to his hunger. He was determined to find something. Maybe he would go get that squirrel type creature. He sighed again. What am I coming to?
He walked in the direction of the squirrel. His hunger pressured him to move quickly and kill soon. In the distance he saw another wolf. It was a male and perhaps an Apennine. He smelled like one but that didn't mean anything. He could rub himself all over a dead skunk and a wolf in the distance would think he was a skunk/wolf. He had his head down in the ground and something in his mouth. Maybe he's looking for food too. Maybe knows how to hunt, maybe he can help me take down something bigger for the both us. These thoughts made him want to approach the strange wolf. He thought it was odd that a wolf would want to carry something in his mouth while trying to find food but hey, who was he to judge anyone. As he got closer he heard something. Was this wolf singing? He began to wonder about the sanity of this wolf. His song sounded sad and kind of depressing. He wondered what happened to him to make him so sad. The strange wolf rubbed his face. He didn't know why, maybe a fly was bothering him and he felt the need to kill it. The Iranian was not only a few yards away. It looked like this other wolf was crying. Do wolves who are emotionally damaged just come over here? With the little female that was here earlier it was easy to comfort her, it was like breathing but, I'm not sure about how to make this wolf feel better. I can't just walk over and wipe away his tears like I did with Sariya, well I guess I could but that would be weird. He approached further. He had not concern about this wolf attacking him even thought wolves, especially males tended to lash out when emotionally weak. Howdy there stranger! why the long face?
He sat. His crooked smile found it's way back onto his face. It felt weird smiling while the other wolf was crying but, he thought that maybe if he was smiling then the other might feel better. He could really feel the sun's warmth as he sat. He couldn't really feel it before but now he could and it felt great. He loved the warmth, it was oddly comforting. His mind wandered while he waited for the others response. He wondered why the sun was so comforting to him. Many said that they hated the heat, it made them uncomfortable. Maybe it's because it was the only comfort he received at a pup. Yeah that was probably it.
His focus went back on the Apennine. Scout wagged his tail a little even though he didn't know why. It seemed to have a mind of it's own. It just moved whenever it wanted to regardless of how inappropriate it was. His brown eyes tried to look warm but he was to hungry to look anything but hungry. He desperately hoped that this wolf could hunt and would help him bring down something.

Toklo could hear the others' footsteps, but he didn't really care at the moment. He was too busy thinking of his lost Irene. He huffed out a small sigh, staring at the herb basket beneath his paws. What was he to do? The sound of the stranger approaching him broke Toklo out of his reverie. He looked up, turning to meet the other brute. He was Iranian, by the looks of it, and not much older than Toklo. Toklo, being who he was, bowed his head in respect and in greeting, pulling a genuine smile onto his maw as he raised his head. "Greetings, young Sir. Forgive me, I was lost in my memories." he told Scout, his smile marred somewhat as the corners were pulled down by a frown.
But, he hitched it back into place again and rumbled, "My name is Toklo, and I am traveling among these lands with my sister, Oka. Who might you be?" He was, of course, very formal, just as he was with all strangers. Part of him wondered whether tit bothered others, how he spoke. Tears gone and face clear of all misery, Toklo smiled softly once more, his tail wagging somewhat. It was unusual, two brutes to meet and greet without a fight or some sort of stand-off, but even more unusual to have them be friendly. Toklo took a step forward, sniffing the other carefully. Satisfied that he'd covered all roper hellos, Toklo sat down promptly once again.
His blue eyes found the brown, and noticed how hungry they seemed. He'd recently eaten a young rabbit, so he couldn't say that he himself was hungry. "Forgive me, but have you hunted recently, Sir?" he asked, concerned. His orbs flew to his nap sack of herbs and Toklo cursed under his breath. Normally, he'd have herbs to suppress hunger and fill one up, but since he'd yet to really go herb searching, he had only those small flowers. "I have eaten recently, but if you wouldn't mind my help, we could catch something more substantial?" Toklo offered with yet another small smile, his tail thumping against the ground.

The other male, who had seemingly gotten over whatever he was sad about did another thing that seemed odd to him. He bowed his head in respect. It was a weird feeling being respected. No one had ever shown any respect to him, ever. The male then said "hello" to him or at least Scout thought he said "hello." He didn't know what "Greetings" meant or why he called him " young sir." He was older than this other male by a few months which made it even more odd. The male smiled at him which made his smile seem less awkward. He was glad that this meeting was going well. It didn't happen very often where two males would meet and be friendly. The male then told him his name. Tolko...hmmm I wonder what it means. Nice to meet you Tolko. My name is Scout. He thought that it was only fitting to be formal with him. It would be odd if he was more personal and Tolko was more formal. The male walk towards him and sniffed him a little. This was normal behavior when wolves met and it didn't bother him at all. While the male was sniffing him he sniffed him back and when Tolko sat, he sat. He knew if he had continued standing then it might be seen as dominance and he didn't want to dominate anyone though he didn't want to be at the bottom either. If he had it his way, everyone would be equal but, he knew that wouldn't be happening anytime soon especially, in a pack. Which was part of the reason he was a loner. He had half of a mind to say something sarcastic or mock the way that he spoke. He didn't want to hurt or offend him at all, mocking was his weird was of bonding.
Tolko asked him if he had been hunting and then offered to help him catch something big. He assumed that "substantial" meant big. His face lit up. Food!!!!! He was no good at hiding his emotions, his face was like an open book. He was happy. Well I hunted earlier today but, it got away. I wouldn't mind at all, in fact I would be very grateful if you would come hunting with me.
Toklo nodded at the male, Scout. It was a nice name, just like his own was. Unique, even. Toklo noticed that Scout sat when he id, and it made him smile even more. It meant, obviously, that he was not in the presence of a dominating wolf, nor one that was in a pack. He did not mind packs at all, seeing as he was the heir to his parents' throne. However, so early in his new life, he would not want to encroach upon a pack's terra. He pulled his basket towards him, dabbing at the herbs in it with a paw. "Where are you from, Scout, Sir?" he asked softly, gazing towards the wolf across from him.
Before Scout could respond, however, Toklo murmured, "I come from far away. I lost my family, but my sister is with me. She is all I have left." Another sigh, sad, this time. Thinking of that fateful night upset him. The sucking noise, the shake beneath their paws...the water racing, rushing and crashing down upon them all. Toklo had ran for his sister, and grabbed her. Everyone was swept away. But Toklo didn't let Oka go, even as other members of his family were dragged past...Toklo and Oka ended up on a beach, in Anikira. They were all alone, it was just the two of them. They assumed everyone else had died.
Toklo shook his head. He was becoming warm, and he could feel wetness in his ocean-blue eyes again. He apologized to Scout, saying, "I keep getting lost in my past. Please forgive me for my inattention." He shook himself again, shuddering, then stood and scented the wind. "What are you in the mood for, Sir Scout?" Toklo asked him, his tail raising in excitement. Tolko smiled and then pulled his little basket near him. He didn't know what he had in there but, he didn't really care to ask. It wasn't any of his business. He began to play with the contents of the basket and then asked him were he was from but before he could answer the wolf told him where he was from and that he had lost his family except for his sister. Scout was kind of relieved that he didn't have to answer that but, he also felt guilty. This wolf had lost his family in probably some traumatic way and he, had simply run away. He didn't know if his family was alive or if they had been killed, if they were looking for him or if they were mourning his disappearance. But, he was glad he didn't want to talk about his past, mainly because he didn't really like to talk about the past. The past that was something that well, was in the past and in his opinion should stay in the past and partially because if he did talk about his past he might let it slip that he ran away from his family. He was already feeling guilty enough, he didn't want Tolko to be angry with him for that reason.
The younger male seemed to be getting upset again but, it looked like he was able to keep good control over it and his face was back to normal before he could "Deer." He apologized for being distracted. It's alright you don't need to apologize, we all do that sometimes. The younger male then stood and sniffed the air. It looked like he was trying to find something to eat, similar to what he had done earlier. He then asked what he was in the mood for. What am I in the mood for? hahahaha right now I'd eat anything. Honestly, right now I'll eat anything and you don't need to call me "Sir" we are in no-mans land. Here we are equals. You may call me that if you wish but you don't have to. He then stood up and sniffed the air as well. The smell of bigger game filled his nose and made his mouth water. It was intoxicating. His stomach growled again but, he silenced it. His brown orbs looked at the younger male. He was looking for his to possibly make a decision or to get directions on where they were going or maybe instructions on how they were going to take down whatever the Apennine chose. He had never hunted big game. His small size prevented him from hunting big game alone and his laziness prevented from learning to hunt in groups as a pup. He let out a sigh, thinking about how much he had messed up as a pup, how much better off he would be if he had paid attention when elders in his pack told him how to hunt or fight. He tried to avoid fights as much as possible but, it would be a good skill to know that he unfortunately did not know. Whenever a conflict would occur, he relied on his speed and agility to run away from it.
He wagged his tail in a little excitement from knowing that he would be eating soon. Hopefully whatever they hunted would keep him full for several days so he could focus on learning some kind of skill.

He nodded at the brutes' words, smiling faintly at him. "Thank you Sir." he murmured, dipping his head as was customary of a pack. Yet, there was no pack. He was a loner, wasn't he? And so was this stranger. Yet, the formalities Toklo had learned in his old pack had yet to fade. At Scout's words, Toklo dipped his head in acknowledgement again, picking up his basket of herbs and starting to walk off, following a scent trail of a deer that had passed just before Toklo had come. "I call everyone Sir, or Madame, or Miss. It is...customary for a pack. I understand that we are in loner lands, but..." Toklo paused slightly, frowning as he walked. What to tell this brute?
"You see, I am Heir to the Aure throne...however, the Aure pack is finished, gone with my family. I am son of Alpha's Elu and Nessa. We were always very respectful, to everyone, even the Omega's. I have learned to speak in a certain tongue, to say certain words to certain wolves." Toklo murmured quietly, keeping his eyes peeled. Suddenly, he spotted movement. There it was, munching on some grass. "There," he breathed, crouching down and pointing with his snout. "Deer alright?"
Toklo grinned at Scout behind he lunged with a snarl, dropping his herbs and his basket. He launched himself onto the deer, gripping it's back, clawing and biting at it. It was startled, and it fell, but Toklo maintained a hold on it. "Scout, come on!" he growled, moving away from the deers' flailing limbs. He snarled at it, making it cower, his normally benign features turning fierce, dangerous. Toklo bit at it's throat, feeling the warm blood gush from the wound and into his open mouth. The taste, sight and smell of it suddenly made him ravenous, and he bit at it once more.

It was odd being respected. No one respected him. He was a loner, an outcast, lazy, and maybe a little rude at times. He had never done anything to earn this wolf's respect, but he gave it to him anyway and that spoke about his character. Tolko's thanks confused him. He didn't do anything worth being thanked for. All he did was tell the brute that he didn't need to address him with such respect, and then the brute called him "Sir" again. He then explained why he spoke like that and who he was, where he came from and who his parents were. The Iranian was thinking about what to say back to the much more refined other wolf. His family was nothing he wanted to talk about, they were his past and the past should stay in the past. The other wolf was on high alert for food as he spoke to him. He pointed his eyes in the same direction, showing the same amount of concentration on his face. He stayed like that for several seconds and then the other spotted something. Scout was slightly relieved because he was starting to lose focus. That happened to him on a regular basis, he couldn't stay focused on something for longer than a few moments. He then asked if deer was alright. Scout wanted to scream YES! deer was definitely alright. In fact, deer sounded amazing. But, before he could respond Tolko lunged at the deer and latched onto its back. The deer fell but the other held tight to it. He yelled for Scout to join. Oh the excitement! Adrenaline pumped through his veins. He ran and sunk his teeth into the beast's shoulder. He knew that it wouldn't kill it but, Tolko was already by the throat so he decided that he would make it so he wouldn't get kicked by it's powerful limbs. The other bit it's neck and the blood gushed and he bit it again. The beast was dead. It's body stopped moving, the heart stopped beating, and the chest stopped moving. Scout wanted to tear into the animal's flesh and rip the meat from it's bones. It tasted so good, so fresh. It took all of his strength to release the animal but, Tolko killed it so he got to eat first. That's how it worked in a pack and that's how it worked when you hunted in a group. The other had also done most of the work so he thought it was only fair to let him have first dibs if he wanted it even though, he was so hungry it pained him. He let out a light whine as he looked at the meal that lay before him. His paws danced in place as he looked at this deer. He knew this was an immature action but, he was hungry and wasn't thinking clearly. He tried to keep the drool inside his mouth. The Iranian stared at it and then at Tolko and then back at the deer. He wanted the wolf to give him permission to eat it. It was odd waiting for permission to do anything but, he was the one who took down the kill and delivered the final bite so he would wait.

Toklo's lips twitched in instinct as his gaze slipped to meet Scouts'; he wanted to snarl, he wanted to make Scout move away, leave him to his prey. But, no, he couldn't, this was Scout's prey, too, and Toklo was hardly hungry. Still, the brutes' instincts made him growl softly, though he tried to stifle it quickly. He nodded to Scout, giving him permission, it seemed, to dig in. It felt right to Toklo, and he hated that feeling. He gripped a front leg with his powerful jaws, just above the knee, and pulled hard. There was a popping noise, then a tear, and Toklo had the deers' right foreleg in his maw. He wagged his tail and huffed in a happy way, then padded a few feet away, sitting down and gnawing at it. He wasn't even if it for the meat; he simply wanted the bones to play with.
Toklo's tail thumped the ground in pleasure as she stripped away what little meat there was on the animals' leg. He ate everything, and once he got down to the bones, he crunched upon them loudly, sucking at the delicious marrow. After licking the bones clean of meat, muscle, marrow, and everything else, Toklo woofed, wriggling his rump and pouncing on the bones. He laughed to himself, not even worrying if he looked stupid. He grabbed the bones in his mouth and then threw them, yipping gleefully as he bounded right after them. He scored a meal, and toys!
As soon as Scout had finished eating, Toklo snuck up on him. Woofing gleefully, he bowed down, his rump up and waving in the air, his tail high and arched. He wanted to play. He pounced upon the smaller brute gently, growling playfully and nibbling at the others' ears. It might have seemed strange behavior, but Toklo loved to play, and he hadn't had a companion -besides his sister- in a very long time. Oka wasn't one for games, and Toklo was often much more serious and refined when it came to his sister. She'd never seen this pup-like part of him. Toklo liked Scout, he was nice and seemed to be okay with Toklo. He hoped that they could establish a friendship.

The larger male growled at him lightly. This was a natural reaction to have towards a wolf whom one had just met and there is food on the line. Tolko stopped quickly though, meaning that he probably wasn't going to be aggressive to him. He then gave him permission to share this kill. Scout lunged at it and tore open a whole in it's flesh immediately. He sunk his teeth into the warm freshly killed meat. It felt so good to have so much meat in front of him for the taking though such a large kill can only do so much for a small wolf. He had just made a dent in the animal's carcass when he had become full. Scout wished he could eat more because he doesn't get so much food every day and he wanted it to keep him full for a few days. The Iranian noticed that Tolko was not eating. He was playing with the bones. This was odd to him. This wolf must be an excellent hunter from a land with plenty of food because normally when someone makes a kill, they want to eat it but, this one only wants to play with the legs?? wait....where'd he go?? His small frame hit the ground and he heard playful growling and nibbling his ear. He wants to play! Scout loved to play. It was one of his favorite pass times, along with sleeping and eating. The only things he ever got to play with were little ground animals and they didn't really enjoy it that much. He was glad he had someone to play with, it made him feel like a puppy again. He began to wrestle playfully with the bigger wolf, growling and nibbling playfully as well. This was nice. It wasn't often that two males met, were friendly, hunted together and then played. He liked him, he was fun to be around and he wasn't controlling or bossy at all which made Scout like him even more. He hoped that they would be friends. Friends were good things to have. Most wolves didn't like Scout so much because of his personality and attitude on life but, this wolf apparently looked passed it or didn't know it was there. Either way, Scout was happy to have someone like him. Words;;400 Muse;; not bad Tagged;; Vaniel's Tolko Mood;; content, happy Other;;
Toklo barked out a deep, booming laugh as he and Scout play-wrestled. He growled and yipped and pawed at the brute, being careful to not scratch or poke him with his claws. His jaws were gentle as he nipped and nibbled at the ears and face of he other brute. After awhile of play fighting, Toklo moved away, panting. He flopped in the grass, huffing and puffing, letting his heart rate turn back to normal. He pulled his basket and his bones closer, finally eating them. Then, looking back towards the rest of the carcass, he jumped up and started to scarf it down, finally hungry. Once he was finished, he ripped off the rest of the legs, glad to have more bones to play with.
Toklo chuckled and dipped his head to Scout in a goodbye gesture. "It is time for me to take my leave, Sir Scout." he rumbled, grinning broadly as he spoke. "I came here to look for herbs, and this field has little in the way of them. Thank you for your time, and your readiness for a friend." Toklo told him, his voice quieting somewhat. "I needed this, so thank you again. I plan on looking for more herbs. I'm not sure of your plans, but if you wish to accompany me, I would be glad of it."
He nodded towards the brute, picking up his basket in his maw, putting the legs in the basket as well' they hung off the sides, limb and sad-looking. "I must return to my sister, Oka. If you meet her...I apologize for her behavior. Do not think anything of it." And with that, Toklo bounded off, ready for his next adventure. He wondered if Scout would follow, or if he would go his own way.
He felt like a pup again, or at least how a pup should feel. He never got the chance to feel like a pup when he actually was one so he tried to make up for it as often as he could. Playing with this bigger male was fun. Tolko let out a laugh. It was deep and sounded kinda like thunder. The smaller male let out a laugh as they were playing aswell. This laugh did not have as much presence as Tolko's did. Scout's laugh was light and fun, much like how a pup would laugh. The bigger male seemed to be careful not to hurt him in this play and he appreciated it very much. His body was slender and long, built for speed and agility. He could be easily injured during a rough play time but, this wolf was being careful. He smiled. Playing made him happy, not many wolves would play with him. Partially because he was an adult and adults were supposed to be out of their playing stage and partially because many adults are too into their image and how others will look at them that they won't play even if they want to.
Tolko moved away, he was panting but, he looked happy. Scout loved when wolves were happy, it made him happy. The bigger male then, tore into the dead deer and played with it's legs. Scout too, joined in eating even though he had just eaten, it didn't happen often were there was such plentiful food right in front of him and he wanted to make the best of it. His stomach quickly became full again and he laid down on his side to stretch and relax for a moment. The Apennine bowed his head and laughed a little. He said that he had to go back to his sister and that he had come looking for herbs. That must be what was in his little basket...hmm being a shaman doesn't sound too bad and neither does learning to be one. All I'd have to do is walk around and eat plants 'till I figured out what they did and how to use them. Tolko then thanked him for being friendly. He thought this was odd, to be thanking someone for being friendly was weird. Everyone should be friendly towards everyone else unless they have a good reason not to be but, he took the thanks anyway. He said he was going to look for more herbs and he invited him to come with him. At first, he didn't know what to feel. He was shocked and his face showed it. How could it be that a wolf that has just met him want to have him go on a long journey? This wolf must be either very naive or very trusting. Some would say that those are the same thing but it was different in Scout's mind. Naivenes was just being stupid but trusting was knowing what could happen and ignore it anyway. He couldn't tell which this wolf was doing because he hadn't known him for very long. He was happy though. His emotions were bubbling over and his crooked smile took over his expression. He must have said something about his sister amd her behavior but, he wasn't really listening. All he could think about was wondering around and collecting plants with Tolko.
The blue-eyed wolf started to head off and Scout followed him, not really knowing where they were going or how long he would stay with this wolf, if they would be friends forever, if they would become like brothers or if Tolko would become annoyed with him and ask him to leave but, all of that didn't matter right now. All that mattered right now was the present. The future would take care of itself.
