The world was quiet, much too quiet. It was the kind of silence that seemed to stretch out and expand, taking up all the open space in the world. The birds were not singing and there were no streams to babble their noisy way through the land. There were only trees and a light covering of snow that was early and strange for that time of year. The deepening silence seemed to be having a strange effect of the deep grey female who was sitting near the edge of the forest, looking out into a small clearing. Her movements were agitated and her deep mocha eyes darted about in their sockets as her vision bounced from one object to the next in a random and dizzying rhythm. Her tail twitched agitatedly back and forth as she rolled her head back and forth as if to release the tension that vibrated across her entire body. There was an invisible war going on within her brain; one that fought order with chaos and serenity with frenzied movement.
Suddenly, as if compelled with some invisible force, she leapt up from her sitting position to one of agitated movement. Tensed muscled rippled under her dark coat and she stalked the line of trees, careful not to place her large paws into snow that had already been disturbed. Slowly, as she disrupted the fleshly lain layer of snow, a small smile crept across her dark features. Finally fed up with her adult like behavior, she leapt forth into the clearing and immediately went to her back. From that position, she squirmed and rolled her way about the area uncovered by trees until it took on the appearance that a large herd of animals had bedded there for the night. Stopping her movements, she froze on her back with her paws in the air, allowing her wide brown eyes to dance about and take in her masterpiece. She grinned to herself, pearly white teeth flashing beneath ebony lips before she stood up and gave a massive shake to her dark pelt. Glancing back once more, she nodded her head slightly as if giving approval to herself at a job well done. Chaos was much more fun.
It must be winter here in this place. What seemed to be a field in the warmer months was now a bland and dull place. Kiddo liked the cold, it reminded him of his lineage and that his kind was specially tolerable to it. He prided himself on his background and his size. Kiddo was a rather large brute who knew how to throw his weight around if needed. His large paws padded the snow at a slow pace. He thought himself to be the slowest wolf on the planet/ His large muscled body kept him from being swift and he didn't know whether or not that was a good thing. He could fight for sure but hunting was a whole other story. He practiced his hunting when needed but he needed to get extremely close to his prey before showing himself. He would always lose a hunt if the prey saw him too quickly.
He chose a light jog to travel through this winter field. He thought that the gods must be laughing at him now. Laughing at what they had done to him. Laughing that they had made him so slow, that they had taken half of his tail and laughing because he had lost his family. He had not seen his pack ever since he jumped over that fence as a pup. Sometimes he still howled for them by some chance they might here him and come for him. Kiddo loved family but not so much talking to strangers which was the problem. Kiddo was not a very friendly wolf. He was not "nice." He had agression problems and it would be difficult for any alpha to control him. He knew this so, he secretly planned to claim his own land someday and make a new family. Then he could laugh back at the gods for beating every one of their tests. He had passed every single one up to this point. He had survived with half of a tail, learned to hunt despite being separated from his pack at a young age and perfecting his techniques because of his tail. He would win. Kiddo almost never lost and he planned to keep it that way.
Suddenly the smell of another wolf filled his nares. It was a female. Wonderful. Kiddo was fond of females especially during the mating season. He thought about introducing himself before getting there but then, decided against it. This was the free lands. There was no need for pack etiquette here. Besides, this was only a female. He was much bigger than her, he was sure of it. If she wanted to start some kind of argument, let her. He was a master arguer. In his own mind at least.
When the femme came into view, she looked agitated and tense. Like she was stalking something. He had not smelled anything worth hunting on his way here and he wondered what she was doing. Perhaps she was starving and needed to hunt the little creatures along the ground. She didn't look terribly skinny but, winter coats could disguise quite a bit. He knew that his own winter coat made him even larger looking and he loved it. The female had apparently decided to roll around in the snow. Another thing he thought was odd. Only moments ago she looked like she was hunting and now she was playing in the snow like an adolescent. Hello there. Having fun? His voice was a bit mocking. He was more or less laughing at her. She was being funny, wasn't she?
His stance was not aggressive, yet. He was actually kind of relaxed at this point but, he knew that situations could change quickly and if need be, he would put this femme in her place. He would not be disrespected by her and he would let her know that. His eyes spoke this to her. He expected the female to get up so, he waited for her to do so before saying anything else. If she knew anything about anything she would know that one should at least sit up when talking to another. If she did not, then she would sure learn that lesson quickly and it would not be a lessen she would soon be forgetting.
The snow felt wonderfully cold, sending shocks down her body that made her feel alive. More than alive. Thriving. It was not very often that that sort of feeling washed over her and she felt so, free. Yes, free. She was always wrapped up in her mind like it was some tight coils wrapping itself around her body and always constricting her emotions and movements. She hated that part of her, the part that made her look at the world differently from any other creature that lived on this cruel world. Zaylin especially hated the fact that it made her seem unapproachable when it really clamped itself on her brain and squeezed tight. Her vision would narrow and she would fly in a rage that many did not expect that her small body was capable of. She had been known to hurt people and destroy any semblance of order in a given area. As her mind thrashed about trying to make sense of the strange creation she considered herself, Zaylin flopped back down into the snow, sending tiny crystals and flakes scattering in the small breeze that twined itself through the world ever so briefly.
It was on that breeze that a new smell drifted over her nostrils and made them cringe away from the direction that it had come from. Her entire body shook slightly as she realized she was no longer alone with her thoughts and she now had to deal with company. She sighed gently as she burrowed her nose into a small pile of snow, trying to refresh her senses before she turned to face what was apparently a male standing not too terribly far away. The thing that really bothered her was the fact that she had not noticed him before and she had let him approach unchallenged. Her body shook again as her thin coat began to take on water from the snow melting from her body heat. She was not built for this kind of weather, not at all, and it was beginning to show as another tremble ran along her spine. Ever so slowly, Zaylin lifted her now cold nose from the pile of snow and slowly rotated her head so that she could locate the place where the other was standing. Her mismatched eyes focused on the tree line in which she had emerged not too long ago and they slowly came to rest on the large male standing there, looking calm, if not in the slightest a bit confused, at her lying in the snow.
She trembled again, this time not necessarily from the cold either. No, there was something about this male that put her at unease as he stood quietly in all of his massive bulk. When his words came forth in a slightly mocking tone, she tensed her entire body and lowered her head. Pinning her ears back against her head, she slowly allowed a response to float through the quiet air, words soft with care and caution. ”Hello to you too. And I guess you could call it fun…” Zaylin’s words trailed off as she continued to watch this brute and she suddenly caught on to his intense stare right in her direction. He seemed to be conveying an awful lot in that one glance and there was something there that made her collect her feet beneath her. Ever so slowly, she lifted herself from the snow, her eyes never leaving the male’s intense stare. She was never one to willingly do what others wanted but, on this day, she did not feel like being torn to pieces. After a moment, she sent a shake across her body, sending small water droplets cascading into the air before everything fell still once more.
Zaylin’s strange glare continued to lock into the male’s as she watched his every movement, trying to discern if there was going to be any threat. Her own tail was hovering just over her tensed back legs and her ears remained flattened. Ever with her head held at its normal height, her bulk paled in comparison to his own. Finally, she broke the eye contact and shakily took a few steps closer, her courage welling back inside of her now that he had not attacked right away. After a moment, she stopped again and allowed a few more soft words to float forth. ”I’m Zaylin, for your refrences.” Her own words held a slight lit of mocking as she imitated his tone from a little bit earlier. However, her body did tense slightly as if she were expecting retaliation for her actions.
The cold snow had almost no affect on the brute male. In fact, he actually liked the cold. He liked knowing that he could bear resistance to the freezing which others crumbled. Though, he was not completely resistant to it. The cold still affected his nose but, this was nothing he couldn't handle. The female had decided to push her nose into the snow. A move he would not have made. Why would one want to put their nose into the cold to keep it warm? Odd. I guess it would make it warmer for a moment or two but, when she would remove it, the weather would seem even colder. He didn't know if the female new this or not. She didn't look very old. Maybe it was just the fact that she was uneducated. He, was almost four years old.
Kiddo appreciated the fact that he had come here completely unchallenged. He wasn't expecting much of a challenge but, he was actually expecting something. Usually, wolves had some kind of snide remark or defensive action of some sort. The female looked cold. She had a rather thin coat. Tell tale signs of a breed that was not adapted to the cold. This made him feel rather good about himself. He knew he could survive in the cold where others could not. She trembled. Shouldn't of put your nose in the cold then. He debated whether or not he should help the female. He couldn't decide if she was going to be useful to him or not. He knew he had plans of starting a pack and a pack needed members. He knew he would want a few starting members because a land claim with only one wolf, even a wolf with a howl as low and as loud as his, was a weak one. He knew the best claim was with two or more wolves. He would have to see how the rest of this meeting would go.
Her mismatched eyes were interesting to him. The co-dominance was something that we was not used to. He couldn't remember if he had ever seen a wolf with different colored eyes before. Her eyes were definitely interesting to him. He had an idea that his pack would be for the unique, the special, the talented. There would be no room for average. The female's eyes made her unique but, was she talented enough to keep around for the claiming? That he did not know. He himself was unique. His half tail was not something one would see every day. He considered himself a fairly talented hunter and he was a leader no doubt.
The female trembled again. Perhaps from the cold or perhaps by his presence. He had that affect on other wolves. His size and was of carrying himself tended to make others uncomfortable. He smiled inside of his own head. This female was feeding his ego and he loved it. He relaxed the tension in his body after realizing that she was not going to give him any trouble.
The female dared to make eye contact with him. How dare she? His first thought was to throw her on her back in the snow and take a chunk out of her ear. He allowed a low growl to slip from his lips for a moment but then he silenced it. There was no need for a fight here. His growl should have been enough. Besides, the rest of her body language seemed submissive enough. She had collected her feel below her and she kept her ears low. Her tail was neither raised nor lowered. He wanted it to be low but, he was not her alpha, yet. So, he could not demand such a thing from her. He was a power freak, he could not deny that but, there was some things he would just have to let go. If, he decided to let the female into his pack, her tail would either be low or, she would lose it. Until then, he would have to deal with it.
She walked closer to him. He remained calm even though he didn't really like the fact that she had the confidence to walk closer to him. But, confidence was a good thing sometimes. He must keep that in mind. She stayed submissive which was key here. If she had not, she would be more than a little uncomfortable. She introduced herself as "Zaylin." He thought it was an interesting name. Not that he could speak. He debated with himself whether or not he wanted to give her his name. He liked to be called "Sir" but, he was not her alpha and could not demand that from her. As much as he hated admitting it, at this point, they were both loners. Neither one was better than the other. Her tone imitated his voice from before. It was her confidence yet again. Actually, he didn't mind her tone. Imitation was a sign of following. She was in a way following him. Using him as an example. In a sense, she had already made him her leader. In his mind anyway. This display also perhaps showed her age. Her actions had two reasons as far as he could tell. Either she was following him and making him her leader or, she was young and immature and just copying the actions of an older wolf. If she was, then he still wouldn't have had a problem with it. It would have been a natural thing that was crucial for development.
My name is Kiddo. He had decided to actually give her his name. Later, if he did decide to keep her around, she would call him "Sir" or "Master" or something more formal. His body remained calm but assertive. He was not afraid of this little female one bit and his body language showed it. He was truly the more dominant one here even though they were really equals. He held his tail level if not a bit higher and his ears remained erect. He held his head in its normal position, not incredibly high but also, not low either. He softened his stare on the female to make the situation more comfortable. He had already established who he was as a wolf so, he saw no need to continue to make the female uncomfortable if it was not needed. he had a feeling that she would not give him any trouble.
The little female actually seemed rather intelligent. She handled herself well in this situation and she seemed to know who was the boss. These were all things that he wanted in a pack member. But, was she talented? He was going to ask her. He was not the type to beat around the bush and he would come up with a way to word it so it was not an "out-of-the-blue completely random" question. I must know, do you have any particular talents? I know it's a random question but, from what I can see you would be an exceptional possible pack member. He figured that because he had complimented her, it would make the question less awkward. I have been traveling around here looking for prime territory and members to match. He also thought that an explanation of his question would make it less awkward as well. He didn't speak very often so making long dialog was difficult. He was more the strong silent type. He waited for her response. He assumed that she would take a few moments to think about her answer. Most wolves don't get asked that question so most would not have an answer ready. Her answer could be the deciding factor if she would be worth keeping around or not and if he found out that she had lied to him, there would be hell to pay.
As the entire situation began to unfold itself before her mismatched eyes, Zaylin sighed deeply and allowed her brain to begin its constant calculations that so often drove her mad with the millions of possibilities that it managed to come up with. At the moment, it kept reliving that moment of pure joy when the snow had dissolved from a clean white sheet to a canvas imprinted with her sporadic footprints. There had been rage just before she had exploded from the trees, a rage that she was always scared to release in its entirety, especially when she was in the company of others. Now that she knew she was not alone when she had erupted, she began to think of what this other must have thought of her when watching the whole scene. Did he think her childish or dull minded? Or was it something more along the lines of craziness? Either way, Zaylin was certain that she had not made the best of impressions on this male.
Many thought she was schizophrenic what with her changing moods and quick sudden actions. Granted, she could quite possibly be one but she was proud to say that she did not have multiple personalities fighting to take her body into their own hands. No, she was very much only one person no matter how flawed she thought that one person to be. Her mother had been a neat freak, making sure everything was straight and narrow and in its proper place in the world. Perhaps this was the reason Zaylin thought the way that she did. She had always hated the way things had been perfect and how her mother was the biggest advocate for that perfection. Even her father had tried desperately to make sure things were in their proper place. Maybe she developed her disorder out of spite for her parents or, perhaps, their perfection genes finally wanted a change and decided to reverse themselves in Zaylin’s genetic makeup. Whatever the case, the trait flourished and made this little girl exactly who she was today.
Now back to the present, the more she watched the massive male in front of her, the more he appealed to that aspect of her nature. His tail, for one, made it so that his body was not the symmetrical beauty that many others sought after in another and this alone made the tension in her shoulders begin to ease ever so slightly. Also, his size in itself was a slightly distorting factor. Growing up around others of her species, Zaylin had been average size and weight if not a bit small. Once being thrown into this world, she was beginning to realize that there were those both larger and smaller than her or her family. This male, on the other hand, seemed so much larger than any other and it set him apart even more. Granted, it was quite possibly his coat adding much of the bulk but she ignored that factor and the one that said size was actually a perfection quality. In a roundabout way, she found it intriguing that he was one of the few to reach the size requirements.
And then there were the eyes. She could feel them constantly on her with every motion that she made as if he were trying to analyze her every move and figure her out from the outside in. Zaylin would not have minded the mere gaze except for it held hostility within it that put her every sense on high alert and erased any progress that had been made in the way of relaxing her body. She caught on to his subtle movements to make her feel more at ease but his gaze still set her on edge. As his growl erupted at the contact between their gazes, the hair on the nape of her neck rose ever so slightly, giving her the smallest of manes as her entire body tensed. She was not enjoying the way that this male already expected to be her superior and was not easily hiding it from her. Of course, to any other it may not have been so obvious but to her, with a father that had done much of the same things, she was not enjoying the relapse into similar treatment. She fought incredibly hard with herself to keep from erupting into a snarl of her own, the only thing holding her back was the fact that he outweighed her by quite a bit and she had ventured too close to make a getaway an easy thing to accomplish. Instead, she bit her tongue and made herself swallow the anger, making a visible attempt to calm herself down in front of this powerful male.
When his voice finally came in response to her words, her ears cowered deeper into the hair on her skull. Even his voice radiated a power that dripped and rolled off his tongue and washed over her eardrums. Shivers ran along her spine as she cocked her head in the slightest bit as if to make the words travel in one ear and then quickly out of the other so they did not have to stay long. She nodded ever so curtly to acknowledge his announcement of his name, a smirk being bitten back at the sound of it as compared to such a large male. After he spoke, his movement put her even more on edge as he was shifting to display his dominance over her. Sure, he was bigger and larger and clearly more powerful, but she still did not like being treated as lesser when the two of them held no pack bond nor any bond at that. Almost out of spite, she discretely allowed her tail to creep up from hanging by her legs and come to rest in a position straight out behind her. She also rolled her shoulders slightly and, in the motion that could simply be a solution for stiffness; she allowed her head to hold itself higher up than its normal relaxed position. Her mismatched eyes flashed slightly as she looked at him, almost daring him to call her out on what she had done.
Before she could continue with her taunting, he spoke up once more and she cringed ever so slightly, almost so little that it was unnoticeable. Her gaze hardened slightly at his words as her brain processed their meaning. There was a reason behind all of his posturing and parading about showing his dominance. This male wanted to create his own pack so he could show his power without being questioned on it. He would have the authority to parade himself about all he wanted. The lowest of growls rolled from her chest, a sound that was more of a vibration than an actual noise and one that expressed her slightly taken aback feelings toward the question. ”And what exactly do you mean by special talents?” Her voice was soft but her eyes flashed her slight anger that he would ask such a thing and so abruptly. ”Do you want to know that I am an accomplish hunter, something required with one living on their own?” She let her words drip off of her tongue as she took a few bold steps forward.
Zaylin’s footsteps were even as they carried her lean bodice closer to the massive male, every sinew in her body tensed and ready for what was to come of her actions. She knew that the words she was planning next would not help matters along as she slowly parted her jaws and allowed the smooth and quite lyrics to sing forth. ”Or are you after the fact that I have survived this long so am obviously good at it? No, I know the answer. You are searching for the fact that I am female and, therefore, my special abilities would be in my ability to carry on your superior bloodline?” The last part of her little speech trailed off as she came face to face with the male and tensed her body before him, a slight snarl upon her lips as she began to rotate her body around his. When she achieved his side and a point where it would be easier for her to escape if he were to lash out, Zaylin spoke up one last time. ”Dear Kiddo, I do not like having my pride insulted by your posturing and questioning.”
The female seemed very tense and aggressive to him, a treatment he did not think he deserved. He was being as polite as he knew how. He hadn't ripped her throat out yet which was a blessing that she should be counting. She challenged his question and seemed to be offended by it. Of course I do not want to know if you have hunting skills. Many are good hunters. I was merely asking if there was something about you that make you special or different from the average wolf. Any wolf can hunt. I am going to ask that you do not insult my integrity my implying that I would only want a female around for breeding purposes. Though, breeding would be nice, he was looking for pack members. He didn't want run-of-the-mill wolves that could only hunt or only heal. Your unique eyes made me believe that you had unique talents or abilities but, by your actions it seems that I was wrong. His last statement was meant for her to really tell him if she was good at something other than hunting. If she was going to stick with hunting then, she better be the best hunter around. She snarled at him. It was a low snarl and she dared to move around to his side. This action seemed to be for an escape route. It was rather flattering. He looked at her, refraining from his desperate urge to growl and rip a part of her ear off. He just looked at her. His gaze was not piercing as it was before. He was making a statement that he did not feel the need to growl at her. She was no threat to him. I do not plan to attack you so you have no need to be so tense. He wanted to add "unless you do something stupid" but, decided against it. It would ruin the element of surprise. The female was not making a good impression. He had even complimented her and she was snarling at him about a simple question. He was contemplating whether or not he should just forget about this female and continue his search. But her eyes, they were so interesting to him. He felt the weird need to stay here and finish this conversation. He relaxed his body but, kept his tail held high.
((OOC: super sorry for the crappy post..its only 400 words..my muse is a little dead but i wanted to reply because Ive been away for so long))
She realized her possible mistake as soon as she managed to accomplish it. Indeed, her snarling and posturing was not going over well with this male and everything he stood for. Granted, she did not exactly like the way he was treating her, the way he looked down on her as if she were only scum on the earth and nothing more. Her father had done the same thing to her when she was growing up. He had no son to train and grow into the next leader so he took his frustration out on his slightly odd daughter. Her eyes had always unnerved him and made him believe that she could see right through him which only made him look even more down upon her. It seemed to be quite the opposite with this male though. Kiddo seemed to be transfixed by her eyes and the strange promises that they heald within them, hidden even to her mind. Zaylin hated the fact that it was a physical feature of hers keeping him from tearing her throat out and a grimace wormed its way across her features.
Her ears pitched forward as he spoke and the smallest of growls worked its way through her chest but she was able to suppress it to a rush of air before it could vibrate into the air between them. From her position beside him instead of before him, she listened quietly as he let a slew of words cascade forth. She snorted slightly before allowing herself to answer in her soft voice. ”Interesting. You want yourself a special group of followers don’t you.” Her words were more like ponderings to herself more than a question for him to answer. A low humming noise came from her jaw as she thought for a moment longer, trying to work up a good answer for him. Before she could actually reply, a few more words came from his mouth, confirming the fact that he enjoyed the strangeness of her eyes. She snorted again, tossing her head before turning away so he could not look at the blue and brown gateways to her own soul.
Her movement to his side seemed to really throw him off and the smallest of smirks danced across her features before disappearing once again. His next words made her smirk as her ears plastered themselves once more to the top of her head. Slowly, she allowed her slender legs to carry her away from the massive brute and toward the edge of the clearing that they had been standing in. Once she was a good distance away, she paused her movement at a point where all four of her paws were standing in a fresh bed of snow. Ever so slowly, she sat her haunches on the cold snow and allowed her tail to curl about her back; a risky move but it was worth it. She was not his pawn to manipulate any way he wanted. Finally, soft words came forth, just loud enough to reach Kiddo whom her back was turned to. ”You are daring to ask me for special talents for I have something that you may not construe as one. “ She paused, collecting her words and trying to figure out the best way to put them even though he would probably think her a freak either way. ”Perfection is something… something I cannot stand in the world. Violence is prone if something is too neat or tidy…” Her words trailed off as she frowned to herself, her back still turned to the massive brute. She did not do herself justice but she would let him figure that out and he would probably leave because of it. It was fine by her, she never did feel really comfortable in the company of others.
ooc: don't worry about it. I didn't give you much to respond to anyways =P
Zaylin seemed as if she didn't appreciate the way that he was treating her. Well, he wasn't too fond of the was she was behaving. She stated that he wanted followers. This was partially true. He wanted wolves that respected him and did as they were told but, he was more looking for a family. Ever since he was taken from his family he has longed for one. He needed the security and the benefits from a family. A pack would provide this for him. He only wanted special wolves to make the pack the best it could be. Wouldn't it be the best pack around if all of the wolves held some sort of special contribution? He thought so. The big male really did have good intentions but, was not good at explaining or expressing them. Her words didn't really sound like a question but, he was going to answer her anyway- just to correct her. Followers would not be the word that I would use. I would have chosen a word that was more like family. Would a pack not be at it's best if every member was highly skilled and contributed in some way? He wanted a pack where every wolf had a purpose. He didn't want more wolves than he needed. In his mind, it made more sense to only have members that were of importance. There was no need for members who just scrape by or only do the bare minimum. She tossed her head so that he couldn't see her strange eyes. It looked as though she was thinking of something else to say to him. The femme moved away from him and turned her back on him. It was a risky move on her part. For all she knew, he could spring on her back and rip her throat out and let her carcass bleed out. He would never eat another wolf. There was just something morally wrong with that.
He pondered her words. What she said wouldn't really count to him as a talent. From what he understood, she would just make a mess out of the dens and of the territory. But, his pack would be for odd-balls in a way. Odd-balls with a special talent of course. There was something about her still that made him believe that either she was not telling him the whole truth which was entirely possible or, she didn't know of it yet. It was a long shot but his curiosity was taking over. He needed to know. He walked over beside the small female. His large paws made indents into the fragile snow. He sat beside her, trying to further convince her of his "family" idea. He hoped that Zaylin would take note of the fact that he was indeed a Mackenzie and his behavior was text book for the breed and he would not be apologizing for it. He considered the fact that if she did indeed have no other talent beside not liking things that were perfect, she could be molded into almost anything he wanted with the right tactics. Regarding his behavior from earlier, he assumed that she wouldn't mind too much. She had stated that she disliked perfect things and he, was indeed not perfect. He took a deep breath before speaking to her. He was not looking at her, he was looking straight ahead for once. I would like for you to stay with me but, the decision is all yours. He didn't look at her while he waited for a response. He figured that she would refuse which, was fine by him. It would mean less work. But, some small part of him wanted her to stay. It was the part that longed for companionship and for family. Secretly, he really wanted her to stay but, he would never let her know that. He was much to proud. He liked to tell himself that he didn't really need anyone or anything even though he knew this was a lie. He waited in silence for her to respond to him. All violence was removed from him though, he did still hold a sprinkle of dominance. That, he was never going to get rid of. It was a part of him that was never going to change. He knew this and didn't mind it. It was who he was and there was no changing it.
Her mind was simply churning, that was the easiest way to describe it as it was jumping from one thought to the next without much reprieve for her. She could not figure out the male that stood not too far away from her location. Zaylin knew that there was a risk in turning away from him but she figured that this was the time where she needed to test him, figure out what he was going to do when it came to certain situations. As she did not feel teeth on the back of her neck chocking the life out of her, she figured she had wormed her way into the male’s good side in some way, shape, or form. The smallest of sighs pushed its way through her nose as she allowed herself to relax the slightest of bits. Her ears picked themselves up off of her skull but they still remained low to display her wariness of the situation as a whole. If she could not figure out this male now, how was she supposed to see him later on in her life? Was she supposed to live in fear at every movement he was going to make, jumping every time he moved toward her? After a moment of these baffling thoughts, Zaylin shook her head violently as if to rid them from her head so she could concentrate once again on the situation progressing before her.
She had not realized that, at some point, she had squeezed her mismatched eyes shut so that she could no longer see the world in front of her. She then realized that she had almost completely shut off her senses to the outside world which was definitely not a smart thing to do. Her ears were turned inward toward each other and they were low on her head. She did not pay attention to what they were telling her in the way of sounds. The same sort of blockage was going on in her nose and it was full of the wet snow smell that she had buried it in earlier. The only thing that alerted her to the fact that Kiddo had moved next to her was the smallest hint of a vibration that rattled through her large paws. Her eyes snapped open at that point and they widened to their full extent as she watched him settle down beside her. She had heard what he had said earlier about wanting a family and she figured that this was an attempt to make her feel better about it but it still threw her off, this tiny moment of sensitivity. Her entire body flinched slightly away from him and her eyes were glued on his facial features in an attempt to figure out what was going through his mind.
When he finally spoke, Zaylin felt herself shutting down and caving in on herself. After all of the posturing and talking they had done at each other, he still wanted her to stay with him. He wanted her to join him in his quest for some sort of family, even if it meant dealing with her flaws. After a moment of letting her brain run over it again and again, she let a shudder shake her entire body. Glancing at him out of the corner of her eye, she noticed that he was not looking at her and something clicked back together inside of her. Surging to her feet, she gave a small shake to rid her fur of the snow that had attached itself there. After doing so, she allowed her feet to press into the snow and carry her around in a half circle. Once she was facing the large male straight on, she allowed a few soft words to flow forth from her vocal cords. ”What is in it for me if I stay with you? Will I simply have to live a life of confinement and obedience?” Her words were slightly harsh and demanding but she was not one to easily conform herself to society even if it was among others that were a little different like her. Her mismatched eyes were demanding as they searched out his own eyes, trying to make some sort of contact and see what lay deep within him.
The female seemed to be blocking some of her senses. While he sat there, she had shot open her eyes and had watched him sit down. He thought about what he had said to her and he decided that he had told this stranger too much. He was not going to beg for members especially before he even had land claimed. He had invested a little too much in this female who had not even expressed any worth. He seriously considered just getting up and leaving her here. Her behavior was not really something that he wanted to deal with. He needed members that were going to live in a cohesive group that were okay with being under him. He didn't want members who might start some kind of rebellion. This female might be more trouble than she is worth.
She flinched away from him. A good move on her part. It told the big male that she was at least a little uneasy about his presence and maybe a little scared. This action was what confused him. She sounded like a very demanding independent wolf when she talked but, in the silence or while she thought she was by herself, she acted more wary and more pup like. He thought that she had better make up her mind about what she was going to be. He couldn't put an age on her by looking at her but, he knew that she was old enough to act like an adult. He certainly didn't want to have to babysit any of his adult members. Her eyes were glued on him. Kiddo did not appreciate this. He preferred not to be stared at so rudely especially when he, was giving her the decency to look away from her. It looked like she was trying to figure him out. Good luck femme. He knew that she would get nothing just from looking at him. He was a closed book- no one knew him except for maybe himself but that was still a maybe. He sort of knew himself. He knew that he had a confusing past and that his real family had been ripped away from him when he decided to jump that fence and those boxes moving on the smooth surface had run him over. He wondered if his family still missed him like he missed them. Probably not. He was sure that they were all dead. Why else would he have no reply anytime he made a call to them? Surely they heard him. His howl was low and booming. He pushed them out of his mind. They were dead now as far as he knew and if they wanted him back then they would have responded to him. He tried to keep them far from his mind. The big male wanted to concentrate on getting his own land and having a pack of his own.
The female shuttered after he spoke. He assumed that either the offer was so horribly awful that it made her quiver or that she was surprised at what he had said to her. He couldn't decide which one he thought it was. He felt her eyes glancing at him again. It made him irritated for some reason that he did not know. That was just how he was, he felt things that he had no explanation for. She stood to her feet and went around to his front. He stood to his feet as well. She was not going to catch him being submissive to her. No way, nuh-uh, never. She demanded him to tell her what would be in it for her. He laughed at her. How dare she ask him such a question? She should have been honored to have been asked to live with him. He was seriously considering leaving her stand here for her disrespectful words to him. He found it insulting that she would have the audacity to to ask him what would be in it for her. He laughed again only this time it sounded not thrilled. He was not happy with her. What's in it for you? His voice was spitting venom at her. His ears were laid straight back and he kept his mouth almost shut while he spoke, he was sure to let her see his razors that he held in his mouth. You would receive a cut of any kill the pack takes down and other basic perks of being in a pack and nothing more. His eyes were flaring as he spat at her. She was lucky that he didn't squeeze the live out of her right this very second because he was only one wrong answer away. His face told her that he was not playing any games. He had already shared too much with her. She knew too much about him already. The more he thought the better it was for him to kill her right now. He did not want her to even breathe without his permission right now. If she was smart she would lay down on the ground and not look him in the face but, he knew she wouldn't do that. It would give him an excuse to kill her so, a part of him didn't want her to.
He answered her last question as sort of her last wish. That is what a pack is my dear. His jaw was still clenched as he spoke to her. With that, he turned to leave. If he wanted to take him up on his offer then she would follow him and if not she would not. He wanted to get out of the situation before he did something he would regret. He honestly didn't care if she came or not but, if she proved to have no worth then he would simply kick her out of his life because then she would have to worth to him. Everyone is replaceable- even cocky females that need to be taken down a few notches.
She hated him; that was the easiest way of explaining to her constantly churning brain what she was feeling toward the large male. Zaylin absolutely despised the way he constantly looked down on her like she was something that could be easily discarded. Granted, he did give her more attention than any others before him had given. Most wolves realized that she had something wrong with her and then they shied away in either fear or disgust. She had to give Kiddo credit for sticking around for this long but that credit did nothing to sway her overall opinion of this male. He was power hungry and egotistical and he looked as if he could find no equal in this world. But, despite all of this, she hated him even more for a different reason. She hated how he was going to offer her a home, a place to call her own and a family to go with it. He offered all of this and yet every movement he made was a sign to show that it was not going to be the type of family that she felt she would fit best into. She hated him for giving her a chance to be normal and then ripping that from underneath her. And, with her mind whirring and turning over on itself, she found herself collapsing in on one of her moods and her mismatched eyes grew stormy as her entire body tensed.
Little did this massive male know that he was just egging her farther and farther into a darkness that she would have to claw her way back through to make herself appear at least partially sane in the near future. She could tell that he did not like her standing before him as he brought himself up to his feet so that he was once again standing before her, towering over her small frame. As he spoke down to her when she dared ask what she would get out of a pack, her hatred of him was confirmed. She could never live and thrive under a male who thought his members would only get their meal out of being in a pack. It was then that she allowed her chest to rumble as her lips quivered. She picked up on his aggressive stance right away and she was not above getting into a little scrap with this male. Indeed, she was in quite the mood to roll about and tussle with someone at the moment and the feeling was only getting ingrained deeper in her as time passed. Finally, she let soft and quiet words hiss from between her lips and toward the massive male before her. ”Well, my Lord, I’m willing to bet that it will please you to no end that I decline your offer of a twisted home and monotonous existence.”
After her words spit from her mouth, she allowed the dark lips rimming her teeth to pull back and reveal the pearly ivories that rested beneath. She knew the motion could very well get her into serious trouble but he had already made up his mind about her, she could tell by the way his next words were spat out. A snarl vibrated across the roof of her mouth as he turned to leave her where she was. This was all for the better as two wolves with unstable tempers should never be left together for very long. As soon as she was far enough away to not be able to catch her words, she let a few whispers out for his benefit. ”At that is not what a pack is, Kiddo. Not in my mind.” She then turned herself so that she was facing away from him. Her entire body was trembling with rage and a deep desire to ruin everything around her. Before she could actually stop herself, she leapt toward a leafless tree and dug her claws into the dry bark. Tearing them down the trunk of the tree, four clear gashes were left from her longer claws as a testimony to the fact that this was not a place she would put down as enjoyable for her to be in. Once she was back on all fours, she broke into a lope and tore from the clearing to escape into the deepening darkness.
