The desert was perfect, or at least on the surface it seemed so. Things were constantly changing with the shifting winds and travelling sand dunes that danced across the barren wasteland. Ripples appeared and danced in the sand as small particles twisted and tumbled through the air as the dry wind picked up and dashed across the world. There was no other place like the desert, a land of chaos and confusion if not a little dry and barren. None of the obvious flaws seemed to bother the dark female that stalked across the land as if it was nothing. Her large paws pressed themselves into the hot sand as her chiseled head sat poised and observant against her rolling shoulders. Her tongue hung out lazily as her tail hung lax between her legs. Behind her, paw prints began to fade as the wind continued blow horizontally through the land. The hair on one side of her pelt was swirling and matting itself into strange patters and she moved perpendicular to the wind’s gusts and across the top of one of the larger dunes. She felt no panic or tension in her body as she moved easily across the world before her. For once, her brain was not at war with itself much like it normally was.
After a while of travelling in one direction, she suddenly shifted so that she was now facing the wind and its persistent gusts. Lowering her head slightly, she pushed off with her powerful back legs and leapt off of the high ridge on the dune. For a moment, she was suspended in midair before her small body was suddenly sent crashing downward. Her front legs hit the side of the dune and sent her pitching forward so she was thrashing and tumbling her way down the length of the sand mountain. When she finally reached the bottom, she slid to a stop and was, for a moment, completely motionless. After a few seconds, she popped to her feet and gave a massive shake to her pelt, sending little granulates of shredded rock into the air to join all of the others. After she gathered herself once more, she stepped off in the direction of lower ground and what her nose told her was water. After her little tumble, she figured she could use a bit of refreshment.
She lowered her head against the wind and picked up a quick trot toward the point where her nose told her to go. After a little bit of trekking and leaving her footprints to fade away into the existence of the desert, she finally came across the point where the red sand met the flowing chaos of the river. Sighing deeply, her deep mocha pools focused in on the bright white and blue streak in the land. Leaping the last couple of feet, she landed with her front legs in the shallow pool of water that was gathering in a slight bend of the river. Lowering her head, her ribbon of a tongue slid forth and lapped up the water that then slid down her throat, refreshing her body. After a moment, she lifted her head and glanced about, the strong scent of a rabbit suddenly assaulting her nostrils. She stepped back quickly and her ears lay flat against her skull as she slowly inched her way toward a nearby dune. She climbed it with trepidation before allowing her gaze to look down at the small animal laying on the sandy bank of the river. Her body froze as she contented herself with watching for the moment, simply watching and waiting.
