Vixen stood next to Scout, thankful for the support. The younger wolf was hiding behind the alpha and the beta even though it was clear that they weren’t her parents, and Vixen was sorry for causing her anxiety if that was the case. She always felt intimidated when meeting new wolves and her fear caused her to say silly things. Normally she was intelligent but when it came to conversations her mind simply froze and she ended up saying the first thing that came into her head. She was glad that none of them had commented on her father – perhaps there was a possibility that they hadn’t heard of him or the gypsies? It was unlikely, but it made her feel a bit better.
She nodded at Rasalas’s introduction, offering a small smile. He didn’t appear overly friendly, but maybe that was a good thing. She could tell that when he smiled at Aries it was genuine, and she didn’t expect such a close bond straight away. But Vixen had never really been close to anyone outside of her family, and she was doubtful that she would ever find love. Jealousy began to linger in her heart and she turned silver eyes away towards the pale orange sands. She could not let that feeling consume her, or it would make her bitter and then she would have no chance at all. But perhaps she could make friends here, or at least give it a try.
Aries told her that she could indeed have a place in Ryala and she bowed her head. “Thank you, alphess. I am honoured.” She spoke sincerely, truly pleased to have found a new home. She had no problem with being lead by a female – Sapphire had done a great job and there was no reason why female alphas couldn’t be just as good as males. As for the blindness, Vixen wasn’t going to judge her on that. She deserved the chance at least to prove that disabled wolves could still do the things that normal wolves could. And perhaps it would help Vixen’s self-confidence knowing that she wasn’t alone.
Vixen listened with her head cocked to the side as Polaris introduced herself more fully. She’d never heard of North America, or any other place outside of Anikira for that matter. Even the thought of having to cross the ocean sent a shiver down her spine; of course she didn’t know what a ship was either so she assumed that the she wolf must have swum here. It was strange to her – she’d never considered the fact that some wolves hadn’t been born on the island.
Then another wolf stumbled into the group, seeming very distressed. Vixen’s eyes widened as he spoke. “Akihra’s hurt?” She didn’t recognise the white brute but he smelt of the place she had once called home. She doubted that the alphess would even recognise her, since she’d only been a pup when Akihra had joined the pack and Zethrox had still been ruling. Still, this was a wolf from her childhood – one of the only ones still alive – and she couldn’t help feeling a connection with her former packmate. She felt like she ought to do something to help but Rasalas seemed to have it under control and she wasn’t sure how Haishin would receive her. She had abandoned them after all, even though it hadn’t really been her fault. She didn’t know if she would ever be able to return to the place where her mother and three siblings were murdered by the bear. Revan, Kale, Echo and Cymry. All dead, and only the runt had survived.
