A few days had passed since Aries and Rasalas’ meeting at the river, and she had since excused herself from the presence of her friends, wanting some time alone to think before she finalized her decision about forming her pack. Aries paws carried her up and down dunes of sand as her mind roamed freely. Her ankle was fully healed, and no longer caused her pain, which was lucky – for three days she wandered her homeland of the Occasus, lost deep in thought, stopping only to hunt or drink from the rare oases of water that had formed from the previous nights’ rainfall. Aries slowed to a halt, closing her eyes as her heart started to race. This was it. It was her time to shine.
The blind Mexican wolf threw her head back, howling her song until it reached the heavens’ above. The sun was high in the sky – it had been cool enough as of late for the desert-dwelling wolves to roam during daylight. Her song was joyous and proud, and she called her friends towards her. Aries was also calling to those around her, whether they be neighboring packs or lone wolves. Her song said plainly: ”I have claimed the Occasus, and those who wish to join must call for me at my borders. Those who trespass will not get far…the deserts kill quickly.”
Her song was over, and she sat perched high atop a hill of sand, the temperature pleasant. It seemed the colder months truly were here, for the sun Aries felt upon her back and ear tips was lukewarm. Aries held herself tall, head perched proudly atop her neck, her blind eyes unblinking. She could have been a statue, had one not seen her breathing calmly. Aries would let nothing go wrong, not today, not as she claimed these lands. She had her friends and pack mates to support her now – all they had to do was come to her. She wondered if others would join them – surely some would come just out of curiosity as they heard the deserts being claimed.
Aries hoped, in the back of her mind, that others would be able to accept her – after all, how many alphas had been completely blind? Her old fears started to creep back into her mind, but she shoved them away forcefully. Now was not the time. Besides, if it did happen, she would prove to them that she was strong enough, able enough. Aries would never let anyone tell her different.
