Blacks paws tread across the sand gently, the rhythmic padding seemed disconnected, as if the wandering wolf were moving without thought to direction. Her head was held even with her shoulders, eyes unfocused as the Maned She-wolf trodded onwards, deep in thought. Did she want to stay here? Was she finally ready to be a part of something again? To belong? Calandra wasn't sure - what if she truly couldn't hunt with others anymore? Or even knew how to really socialize with anyone other than Trout - who for all intensive purposes didn't really exist. Only she could see him, and whether or not he really was a ghost was something she likely would never know.
"I do too exist!" The remark came as an irritated and insulted snarl, erupting from the black jaws of the fluffy wolf who had reappeared to Calandra. "Oh, so now it's convenient for you to be around." She said, equally as annoyed. "You just poof off whenever it pleases you? Some friend." She gave a rough huff and continued on, turning her russet head away from Trout. She crammed her eyes shut as he continued to talk at her.
"You seemed to be fine on your own, with you new best friends. Those weird desert wolves." Trout's comments were clearly meant to hurt, and this sort of tone was foreign and off putting for Calandra. For the first time in her life, she was angry.
"Don't say that about them! Rasalas was kind to be so understanding, and Anubis needed help and I had nothing better to do!" Her response came as a growl, fangs beared.
"Well I don't like them! Rasalas would accept anyone, he's desperate! And Anubis, please. He's pathetic: can't live without his big sister. The Jackal is use sketchy."
In an instant Calandra whirled around, her jaws snapping shut inches before the face of her spectral friend. "Don't you dare speak that way! You're jealous! You think I'll like them better! Maybe I will, if you keep acting like such a whelp." With a final snarl she continued forwards until her paws met more solid ground, and plants appeared around her. She had crossed from the desert into a more lush area around the base of the mountain, the trees and shrubs still in their infancy. It was refreshing however to see plants other than cacti. Glancing over her shoulder she met the pouting features of Trout, trailing along behind her, fuming. Calandra shrugged it off and continued forwards, looking upwards at the top branches of the trees which had grown tallest. Mismatched eyes peered next at the summit of the volcano, smoke and ash still lazily snaking into the sky. The view was probably pretty magnificent from farther up the slopes of the peak, but she wasn't sure of how safe that would be.
Reclining suddenly, she gave a long sigh. "I'm going to stay here Trout. Mostly because you changed your mind and now don't want me to, but also because I think it's time to face reality. I can't live alone - I'm going to die sooner than later if I choose that path. At least with others around I can live, and maybe figure out where the hell I'm going in life. I don't have purpose... Other than to watch other people get sick while I remain healthy." Another sigh; this was going to be difficult.
"No, don't-" Trout was cut short as Calandra gave a howl. The call started softly, then rose higher as she requested the presence of Rasalas. She had separated from him earlier on in order to think on her decision, but now she needed to see him once more. She knew that his offer still stood, and was certain her reply would please the red alpha. Life in the desert was hard - they all knew that - and more able-bodied wolves meant easier hunting. They could take down larger desert antelope this way, and all live as comfortably as possible in the desert.
