Anubis was content for the first time in a long time. With his sister by his side and a new pack to call home, there was little that he, or Amun, could complain about. Yet, the jackal always found something to whine about. He was too hot, too cool, hungry, or was just hell bent on annoying the bloody piss out of the iranian male. It was all Anubis could do to keep from headbutting him right now. After the stunt he pulled with Rasalas and Isis's watch, it was a miracle that the alpha had opted to let him stay with Ryala. How was he supposed to function with the pissy jackal throwing his two cents in every other second?
Anubis walked silently toward the volcano where he knew to be the dens of the established pack. It was high time he got some rest. After that, they could hunt if Ras and Calandra had not already done so without him. It was disappointing to the male that he had not gotten the chance to partake; there had been such a strong pull to the river that it had been impossible for him to ignore it. Whether his thirst was true or if it had just been his intuition bringing him to Isis, the brute would never know. All he knew is that he was one step closer to having his family together once more. For the first time since they entered the desert, Amun did not have anything to say. The scolding he had received at the paws of Anubis had been enough to stun him into silence, which was a rare occurrence for the jackal. It was peaceful. At least, it was for a few minutes.
The iranian male felt the earth before he saw anything. The shaking knocked him flat on his butt and set Amun flying; such powerful shockwaves were not even common in Xisyn. It was likely that the canyon would collapse in on itself with such shaking! Anubis glanced up in just enough time to see the entire cap of Pievunt-An shatter as a stream of lava spewed from its top. A more panicked Anubis had never before been seen. Where are the others? Are they safe? he thought, the overwhelming desire to protect his new family nearly spurring him to run toward the lava. But there was nothing he could do to save anyone who may have been trapped in the volcano's base. There was heat of an extraordinary proportion blasting in waves across the sand. Anubis sweltered, as if he were being subjected to mid-day sun in the dead of the summer. This was horrendous; he needed to leave, and now. The brute threw back his head in a solemn cry, hoping that Rasalas, Calandra, Isis, and anyone else that he had not yet met would hear his call. They needed to leave the desert before the volcano consumed every inch of it.
It was then that Anubis fled. He was not sure where he was going or when he could come back, but right now he was headed back to the place he called home for those years. There was safety in the canyon, and hopefully they could avoid the lava there. If not, he and Amun would be in serious trouble, as the only way to escape Xisyn was up. The male bolted erratically, hoping that he would be able to get away and join up with the remainder of the pack outside of the confines of the desert.
Please, let Isis be okay.
