He sat facing north, watching the smoke still rise into the sky from the smoldering volcano, spreading ash over the whole of Anikira. His features were a blank canvass, the shock of the event having worn off. All he could remember was running south as fast as his legs could carry him. Auden could not remember hearing the explosion or feeling the earth shudder beneath his paws… He could not even recall what made him decide to start running in the first place. He just remembered running…
Although the shock had worn off, Auden was now struck with a twinge of depression. His home, the land where he grew up and learned life’s important lessons…was gone; completely destroyed within less than a day. It was hard to think of the place where he met his new Alpha, the place where his father taught Auden the skills to fill his stomach, was now under several inches of hardened molten rock. Ironically though, the cavern nestled against the volcano used to be where he slept, to Auden it was the safest place in the world.
Why the idea had never crossed his mind that the volcano could do…this was beyond him. More than likely it was because his father had never seemed phase about living next to the supposedly dormant volcano. For all of his life experiences and knowledge of Anikira, Auden did not know that Pievunt-An had erupted before and threatened to destroy The Occasus, but this time she had been more efficient… Auden did not know it yet, but Pievunt-An had created a bridge from the shore of Anikira to her smaller sister with strange canines that had not been seen in hundreds of years.
For now though, Auden was simply focused on reigning in his emotions for those of his new pack could not see how upset he was with losing The Occasus. Sure it was there home too, but it meant more to Auden than it could have ever meant to any of them. It was the reason he avoided entering the pack gathering a couple of days ago. He could not let any of them know his true identity, it would ruin his plan to start over, start fresh…

Smoke was still uncurling itself from the great mouth of Pievunt-An. This unsettled the brute more than anything, expanding Tassos seemed to be a grand idea, but he could not let his pack wander into The Occasus with the volcano still raging. The Alpha was not stupid enough to permit them access back into a dangerous situation, that would be pure ignorance. His auds irritably flattened against his head for a moment while his golden optics still absorbed the scene playing across the horizon. It was disappointing that the land remained so hateful, it needed to calm itself. Rasalas realized by now that there was nothing he could do about it anymore. The simple solution was to stay within Xisyn as the main territory. There was always the potential that when another moon cycle passed that their true home would be safe again. A gentle sigh escaped his lips, a hunt would need to be organized soon.
Russet paws carried the canine's sturdy frame up north, back towards the direction had had come from. There had been no decision making to being him to the boulders, he simply was giving his mind an opportunity to wander. Perhaps if he allotted it time to rake through everything that had happen in the last several months it would calm down. Maybe then he could release the past entirely in order to better embrace the future. His lungs were pleased to have rid themselves of the built up gunk that had acquired immediately after the eruption. No longer were his muscles tense and sore, they had been stretched and utilized back to their comfortable, normal ability. The Alpha considered himself lucky to have no substantial wounds, some of the others had been significantly less fortunate. He still believed that they all would recover, but it was still nothing he had wished upon his family. Rather, the brute still longed to have been able to protect them, even though he did the best thing possible.
His tail swung lightly behind him, struggling to bring his mood to a more optimistic state. There was no reason that he should be so down mentally, everything was bringing itself back together. Things were going fine - make that great, especially compared to how they had been before. Once more the brute exhaled softly, giving his pelt and abrupt shake in an attempt to toss the negativity that was clinging to him. It was then that his gaze noticed the canine in the distance. Head cocked itself to the side for a moment, studying the figurine's silhouette. His approach continued, though at a slower pace, until there was a click of recognition within his gray matter. 'Auden, I have not seen him since the eruption,' it had worried the Alpha that this canine was absent. At the time of the gathering his entirety was too worn down to go and search for the brute.
He was quite pleased to see that the other canine appeared to be in decent health. "Greetings Auden, I'm pleased to see that you made it safely to Xisyn. Are you doing alright?" there was some evident concern upon the Alpha's features. After all, Auden had nearly been assumed dead until a moment ago. Rasalas had stumbled across other loners, but none of his pack mates were within the Occasus. The disaster seemed to simply bring more lost souls to join Tassos. Either way Rasalas was quite satisfied, especially now. It was good to have the family safe and complete, Auden had been the missing link.
