He hadn't been here since the day that Lynker and Curse and Astra had joined the pack which was quite some time ago now. The water was slowly freezing as this winter month took it's toll on it. Kiddo put a paw in the water to see how cold it was. Very cold. He thought quickly as he pulled his paw out of the beautiful water. It was much too cold for a bath but it was perfect for a drink. Kiddo bent his large head down and lapped up the cold refreshing liquid. It cooled his entire body almost instantly and it felt oddly very good. It was like a kick in the stomach but also like a message. How odd. He decided to lay down on the cooling ground. It was almost frozen but not quite. It was surprisingly very comfortable. Kiddo loved the winter. He loved the cold and the snow. He was perfectly adapted for it. He had a large, muscular body covered with a thick lush coat. Even his coat was made for winter. It was white with gray and black dusting. Perfect for disguise. Kiddo took a deep breath as he thought about all he had. He had a growing pack full of members that actually had potential to be something and not just dead weight as some other packs carried around. He had this beautiful water that he had gotten from Lynker. He had everything he could have ever wanted. Everything. This was great. The only down side was now he had to decide what to do about Descai. Sariya or..whatever her name was had come here. It was foolish really to be so fearful of another alpha. No, he wasn't afraid. Kiddo was smart. He would figure something out. He wanted to relax for now which was why he had come out here alone. He let out a big yawn, showing his teeth and sticking his tongue out a little. Life is good. A small cool winter breeze came across his face. It smelled like snow. Snow was coming. Not today, not tomorrow but soon. Speaking of winter and snow, he also had to figure out a way to feed his pack. He wasn't sure they would all live through this winter with all of the food thinning out. That, was an issue that he had to worry about now. Damn. Relaxation was gone. He was stressed now. He got up and started pacing back and forth in front of the water on the cool ground. His pads felt the cold dirt and grass. He sighed to himself. He wanted to expand but he also didn't want to put a target on all of their backs with other packs in doing so. Maybe he needed to ally with someone else before expanding to protect themselves. Oh but he didn't want to do that. He was between a rock and a hard spot here. This would be a time where he would have liked to have a beta. Oh well, he could figure this out by himself. It couldn't be that difficult.

As she came through the trees and laid her eyes on the pool, she was taken aback by it's beauty. She paused by the treeline, letting her eyes scan the ripply water and the early evening reflecting off the surface, making the water look that much more entrancing. There were patches off ice on the water as the pool began to freeze over from the winter cold. Snow blanketed the ground of the beaches, she could barely make out where the roots of the trees closer to the shore poked out from the ground. It was so quiet here, so peaceful. It was the perfect place to get away from the rest of your life and relax, a place away from your problems. Or, a place where you could get your thoughts straight without the interruptions that come with everyday pack life. That was what was nice about her time away, she had been part of a pack her whole life, her parents had been alphas. When Toklo and she had washed up on the shores of Anikira she was relieved to be away from her birth pack, the freedom was an indescribable feeling, one she didn't want to give up.. But, she was a pack wolf. Pack life was all she knew, and while she could defend herself against anything that was thrown her way, she was a terrible huntress. She needed her packmates, as much as her pride didn't want to admit it. Her pack was her family, she needed them. Then, right before she was about to leave and return to the dens, something caught her eye. What looked like a log covered in snow, was actually a wolf laying by the water. At first, Zena thought it must be a loner, trespassing on Amar's land, but before she sent herself plummeting toward the intruder, she realized it wasn't an intruder at all, in fact, he was as far from an intruder as one could get. It was none but Kiddo, Amar's strong and courageous alpha. He was also Zena's closest friend. He was her Brute. She could remember when they had first met, each so mistrusting. They hadn't even known each other's name until after Amar had been established. And even then, he had renamed her from Oka to Zena. She wasn't who she was before, she didn't want to be Oka again, ever. Zena was who she was now, the wolf Kiddo had believed her to be. It was crazy to think how far they had come, from the first day at the cavern in Caurus to today, where Kiddo was the only wolf in her life she could trust. She would do anything to keep him safe and happy. He wasn't normally very smiley, but she could always find a way to make that brilliant smile come out and she could never get tired of seeing it. But, now times were hard. Winter was approaching, the food was beginning to become scarce, but that was nothing they couldn't face. The problem with Descai was the bigger issue, she still needed to meet with Kiddo and Lynker to come to a conclusion on how to handle it. She padded to the shore, until she was parallel with her friend, who looked deep in thought. "We keep running into each other, Brute. What are you doing way over here by yourself?" He looked distressed, something was quite obviously concerning the alpha, she hoped she could help in some way to relieve his stress. She settled down beside him, the snow was cold and being beside the water only made the air colder, so she pressed her pelt against him, trying to keep him warm. But, maybe she was being pointless and silly, he had a nice thick winter coat, thicker than Zena's. Either way, at least she was warming herself up as well. "What's on your mind?" Her brown eyes tried to catch his gaze, full of genuine concern. "You know, there's nothing that can face us that we can't overcome." Count --> 715 w. The forest which this beautiful pool was located was much warmer than by the mountains but the chill still got to it. The Oriens was a generally mild territory but the winter still affected it. The ground was cold on his pads. His body was covered with a lush, thick coat that could have protected him in Shyia if he needed to be. He had heard that it was the coldest place in all of Anikira. Must be nice in the summer. Kiddo thought to himself. Being as large as he was, was nice when fighting or intimidating or taking down prey but when it came with dealing with the warm and sometimes even hot summers, it was more of a hindrance than anything of any help. Price you pay. He thought to himself. He was still sour about losing his tail so many years ago. He probably could have been quicker had he had something to steer himself with. Wolves used their tails as rudders when running and he was missing most of his rudder. Therefore, he had to run slower so he wouldn't fall flat on his face or run into a tree. That would be very embarrassing. He could see the rest of the pack laughing at him now. Now was not the time. He had more important things than his own self-pity to think about. He had a pack that was depending on him. On his decisions. Their food was running out as the mouths to feed kept getting bigger. He hated the thought of not allowing new members but it may be what they needed to do until they could expand into Tiayr. The hunting there wasn't prime but it was a hell of a lot better than it was here. He wouldn't be known as the alpha who let his pack starve to death. His mind was made. They would have to expand. It was the only way out. It was the only way that the could live. He had been thinking about this for a long time now and he had made up his mind. There was no changing it now. Now, onto bigger issues. What were they going to do about Descai? He wouldn't let his pack be taken over by someone else. This was his pack, his home, his family, his Amar. This was his baby. He had raised it from the ground up. By himself he might add. When it was first created, there was only himself, Femme and Vada. Vada had stuck around shortly but she had fled just as Femme had. And now, he had close to ten members now? He wouldn't let all of his hard work go to waste. An alliance may be the only way out. He wasn't excited about it but perhaps he should start thinking about which packs may be able to help him. Just then, he had another wolf speaking to him. He turned his gaze from the slowly freezing water to look up at the female who was speaking to him. It was Zena. He wasn't used to her being around again yet. He had first assumed that it was Evuwisp or Nashira. "We keep running into each other, Brute. What are you doing way over here by yourself?" What was he supposed to tell her? That he was sitting here by himself thinking about what a a huge mess his life was turning out to be? What a messy situation he was in? Sure. Why not. He hadn't even told her his name until after this pack was created! He was pretty sure that he could tell her. I needed a peaceful place to sort things out. He told her. His raspy, low, rustic sounding voice sounded exhausted. He had been doing nothing but testing and working and hunting and thinking and hunting and accepting new members that he hadn't had hardly any time to breathe. He had been doing a lot of everything because no one had ranks except for Zena, Lynker, Hadrian and himself. Everyone else was a subordinate until he could see them hunting or..fighting..or whatever they wanted to do. He felt her warm pelt against his own. Actually, she felt a little cold. He didn't push her away. He didn't want her to be cold. He had a much thicker, warmer coat than Zena did so he didn't push her away. It was a comfort to him to have her there. She was someone that had been in his life, regardless if she was physically present, since before this pack was even created. Now that she was back, he felt....happier? More at ease? Content? He wasn't sure how he felt but he knew that it was better than when she wasn't here. He looked over at her, meeting her beautiful brown gaze with his own greys. "What's on your mind?" Her words, full of genuine concern. It made his heart melt a little inside. Those beautiful sounding words. Everything. Too many mouths to feed and not enough food. Our safety. Kiddo told her while looking straight into her beautiful eyes. His own grey gaze was much softer than usual. He couldn't bring himself to look away from them. "You know, there's nothing that can face us that we can't overcome." Her words were a comfort to him. They meant that she wouldn't leave him again, right? They would stay together. They could overcome anything. She had faith in him. I do hope you're right. He told her.

That was a good sign that something was wrong, he had been so deep in thought that he didn't hear her, which was so unlike him. He was usually alert and on top over everything. What was bothering her alpha so intensely that it would hinder him? He didn't seem to know how to answer her first question. Kiddo always wanted to put on a strong front, but truth was not everyone could be strong all the time. A stinging reality that Zena had found on her own. She, too, had a hard shell, never showed weakness even in her darkest hour. But, how tiresome it was to keep up such a facade. It was a battle she had always fought but never won. No one could be strong forever, life threw tough obstacles in the way and sometimes you had to let your guard down and recharge. If you didn't you'd ware yourself out and then you'd be of no use to anyone anymore, not even yourself. His answer was simple, but he wasn't holding anything back. If he was willing to confide in Zena, maybe she could help ease his mind. He had come her for a peaceful place to think and work out his problems. "Well," she replied, looking over the waters, "I think you came to the right place." She was thankful Amar's territory now stretched across the pool. Not only did it offer the pack a clean source of water, but it also add such beauty to the lands, something most of the Oriens lacked with it's thick forest and rugged mountains. Her eyes sparkled, the rippling water reflecting off of her brown orbs. "It's so beautiful.." Exhaustion was thick in the male's voice. He had been working himself into the ground, the poor brute. He really needed to learn to relax. She felt bad for him, the effects of being an alpha of a growing pack were strong. He must have known and expected this, though. Being an alpha was no fun and games. It was hard work and it took a special kind of wolf to successfully be a leader. But, Kiddo could do it. She believed in him since day one, if she hadn't she wouldn't be here right now. She wouldn't have followed him on the first day when he went to claim these lands. She was thankful she didn't move away from her or ask her to move over, the wind was bitterly chilled and it bit at her body. She snuggled a little closer each time it blew against her. She had missed his company, she had missed his warmth, she had missed his friendship. She had hated being away from him, but maybe that was for the better. Now, she knew she truly belonged here, with Kiddo. She didn't want to be anywhere else but right here. This was perfect. His eyes were soft, a rare sight. But, she felt right at home gazing into his stormy greys. So much was on his mind. He named off a couple subjects that were clouding his mind. She looked away briefly, down to her paws. These were valid concerns, but he couldn't spend all his time stressing over things he couldn't control. "We're strong, we'll figure out how to eat. And we're an intelligent bunch. We'll figure out how to deal with Descai. But, you need to think about yourself for a while. You're going to worry yourself sick." She looked back over at him, her eyes clouded with distress. She pressed her muzzle against his jaw in affection. "You need to relax, I worry about you.." She continued nuzzling his thick, grey coat, waiting for him to react. Count --> 664 w. He liked having someone to listen to him at least. He was going to make himself sick keeping all of this stress inside of him. Being an alpha was hard work. He had expected it to be difficult but he hadn't expected to deal with ridiculousness from Descai coupled with the oncoming winter at the same time. But that was what he signed up for. This was his job. He had to lead his pack through this with confidence and sureness. If he wasn't sure, they wouldn't be sure and it would be a giant mess. Yes, It was well worth the price. Kiddo said in response to Zena's comment about the beauty of the lake. He wasn't going to let her know that someone had actually died in the process of securing this lake. Kyros had been killed while they were defeating the bears. He was a brave soldier and an example for the rest of the warriors here. He had been cocky but he had been a good fighter and his death had been avenged. Kiddo felt good that Zena moved closer to him when the colder wind blew. He felt as though he was protecting her, keeping her safe from the wind. This was an entirely different side of Zena that he had never seen before. She was..different. She seemed softer but in a good way. It was okay when they were alone like this. He liked knowing that he was possibly the only wolf that had ever seen her like this. She was so tough, she was strong, she was beautiful. She may not have been "typically" beautiful by standards of most wolves but she was beautiful to him and he had missed her. He had missed her every day that she had been gone. Femme looked down at her paws for a moment and then looked back at him. Her words were comforting. She always knew exactly what to say no matter what she was trying to accomplish. Her words were reassuring and made him feel a little better. Amar was strong and intelligent. They could do anything if pointed in the right direction but Kiddo had to figure out what direction that was. Maybe he did need to relax for a little while and take some time for himself. Descai couldn't possibly be coming tomorrow. They were on the other side of the island. Her concern over him was adorable. He smiled softly at her. You don't need to worry about me. He told her before nuzzling her in return. He took a breath of her scent. She smelled so good. It was a smell that he hadn't gotten to smell in what seemed like forever and he had missed it.
