Clumps of frozen snow clung to the longer parts of her dark fur, particularly her underbelly and chest, her tail moved too much for snow to keep a grip. She was panting slightly, though she had taken her time, she had managed to cross the Kinath mountains without injury, though she had come close... very close, quite a few times. It was strange, to actually be in this area. Though she had a decent knowledge of the Oriens, never had she set paw here before. She was sneaky, like a shadow, just as one would notice her presence, she'd be gone. It was how she had managed to stay alive this year, quietly passing through a pack's territory, grabbing what scraps she could find, before slithering away. She wasn't proud of it of course, but hunting was difficult. She fared quite well in the spring and summer when the snow on the waters melted, revealing bountiful fish and little to no one to fight with for them, but when the snow began to fall and the waters froze over, Kahira had to resort to more shameful acts. It was dangerous work no doubt, crossing a pack's border. There had been a few times where she was sure she'd get caught, even if she always tried to keep downwind something would go wrong, but she was quick like that, breaking for her best opening to get out of the area. Never had she gotten in a fight with a pack, though she dreads the day if and when it will come. So why was she setting herself up in the Oriens? The second she started up the mountain pass, she knew it would be too late to turn back. She wasn't here for food, no, even if she was starving and there was a pile of meat just sitting there in the Oriens, she wouldn't bother. Kahira had spent most of the year listening and watching for any information about the packs in Anikira. Though her knowledge isn't as grand as she would have liked it to be, it was enough to form her opinion. Treated like rotten meat, the females of the Vashti pack were, to Kahira, pathetic. With her personality, Kahira would get in way too much trouble there. Too militarized for her tastes. The Ryala? Heavens no! Kahira had no problem with the disabled wolves, but she was too wild for that pack, she'd have too much energy to contain in such a slow environment. Descai? She had thought about it, it definitely would do her good, it would fit her, but aside from what she knew on how the pack was run, she knew little of it's internal workings. It had taken her awhile to reject them. If her plans today didn't work out, she might just have to turn there. Well that left only two more packs; the Airila, or Amar. Kahira knew of the Amar pack, she liked their isolated location, it was safe, secure. Their pack wasn't as mushy or strict as the others, it seemed to fall just right in between of the two dislikes. Since Kahira had almost no knowledge of the Airila pack aside from their location, she went with Amar. Why not just stay a loner? She had asked herself this question a lot, but the more she would see packs of wolves, the more lonely she grew. She longed for a family, a pack, somewhere to call home. She was also tired of starving, or just barely making in through the seasons. To know she'd have security and food within a pack was all Kahira needed to set out to find one. After her mother's death, Kahira had no one. Her paws pushed clumps of snow as she walked. Her eyes of emerald stared into the distance for any signs of wolves. It was getting dark, the sun was just beginning to kiss the horizon, painting the sky in arrays of golds and pink. Temperature was dropping and Kahira would have to find a place to stay the night if she didn't find someone. With her tail a quarter raised and her ears pointed to the side, she trotted along through the snow and through the trees. She could scent the others on the air, but she dared not get too close. She wasn't even sure how she'd go about doing this. What was she to say? With a huff she padded over to a large pine, it's lowest branched kept the ground under it free from snow. She glanced around briefly before slipping under the green bristles and curling up to preserve body heat. Her eyes stayed locked on the land around her and her ears stayed forward, listening. As time passed, the clumps on her fur began to melt and her snout rested upon her paws. She was tired, so tired. Her eyes drooped a bit, making the edges of her vision blurry. No, she couldn't fall asleep yet, oh but she was comfy under the tree. The tip of her tail twitched slightly as it curled around her back legs. She adjusted herself, folding her front paws under her chest, though now her head rested upon the ground, it wasn't so bad. There it was again, the drooping eyes. She gave up trying to fight it off and let them close. [/style] |
