It had been three hours since Wysheid walked away from her siblings. With the death of her brother, she held a pain deep in her chest. The words of her late mother echoed in her head: Remember yourself, my wise council. Do not forget your reason to life. The sound of the raging river was finally falling so far behind her that she could no longer hear its angry roar. Toorn and Kalmte were no longer beside her. She had watched them walk south, unsure of what lay before them. She did know this, though: She was free of any ropes that would hold her down. Having stepped away from her siblings, she finally had the chance to explore her horizon in search for anything that would come her way.
The warm wind blew from the south, a calming breeze washing over her fur. The warm sun counteracted the winter chill that should be expected any where else, and the horizon showed nothing but the Occasus desert ahead. She soon realized that the scent of her family had left her, a new aura coming through the wind. She had gone through her whole journeys without seeing another wolf, and her voice had taken refuge deep inside her mind. The desert would not be friendly to newcomers, even in the coolness of winter. She knew that new hardships would meet her in this unknown land. The scent drew closer, something was coming to meet her. Would it be friendly, or a predator? Either way, Wysheid felt an anticipation she had not felt since she was a pup. She was ready for anything.
