It had been three months since she first learned of the fabled land of Anikira. Overcome with excitement and hopeful fantasies, she had set out to find the island, asking native packs for information and searching every coast for the legendary place. When following the directions of a friendly rogue, whom she was beginning to doubt was honest with his claim, she noticed a distant island not far from the shore. She had immediately assumed it was Anikira and prepared for her journey. She had hunted for prey to regain her energy in order to make the swim. Because she was in pack territory, she fished the river that was nearby. She is a skilled fisher, but she had to divide her attention in order to make sure none of the pack caught her, so she only caught a few fish.
She had eaten her catch on the beach, watching the island with growing anticipation as the sun began to sink below the horizon. She had noticed the receding light with surprise. As if worried the island would disappear if she did not go there today, she had dived into the water without a second thought. Nadia had realized too late her mistake in trying to swim to shore at this particular time was a bad idea. However, she was already half-way there, so she might as well keep going. She was an excellent swimmer, but the biting cold make her movements stiffer than usual. She had come this far, and the sandy shore was in her sights, so she was not about to give up now.
Eventually, she splashed noisily onto the shore, thoroughly soaked and completely exhausted. Nadia stumbled away from the beach and half-dragged herself to the sparse brush where she collapsed tiredly. As her eyes drifted shut, she silently prayed that she had found the haven she had been dreaming of.
