Airy footsteps brought the lovely Apennine wolf further and further from the only home she had ever known. It was all due to Azazel’s guidance, though Gemini was uncertain why she listened to the manic black brute in the first place. Maybe it was his smooth tongue, or the fact that he seemed to know what was what with the world. Gem felt comfortable in his presence, far more than she had any other apparitions that had brought itself before her, even the ghosts of her family. She loved him, truly, with all her heart, and she believed deep down that he felt the same about her.
As her paws touched warm sand, Gemini came to a halt. This was something new to her. The northern border of Caurus was nothing but cliff. Sand felt strange beneath her paws. Gritty. Uncomfortable. The femme made a face, staring down at the weird substance. “What is this, Azazel?” she asked the faint presence beside her. “I don’t like it at all.” Chaos sneered, amused greatly by the femme’s discomfort. “You are quite a sheltered little thing, aren’t you?” Gemini shot him a dark, unamused look, that merely made the ghost chuckle. “It is called sand, Love, and if you plan to live on that island, you’ll be needing to get used to it.” The Apennine femme let out a snort of annoyance, locking her eyes on her paws once more. “It’s gritty, and feels funny between my toes.” She looked up, out at the island a short distance from shore, before turning to look at Chaos. “I changed my mind. We’re going home.”
But Chaos wasn’t about to have that. As soon as Gemini turned to head back to her kingdom, Chaos snarled, throwing himself in front of her. She stopped short, pinning her ears back at him. “I will have none of that!” he snapped, taking a step towards her. She shrank back from him, fur standing on end. “You dare tell me what to do?” As intimidating as her words should have been, none of her usual condescension was behind them. “I am your princess, Azazel. You are to do as you are told!” Chaos stepped forward, challenging. “You promised we would do this, Your Majesty,” he growled, his stance overpowering her. In a flash, however, his expression changed from anger to suave as a seductive grin formed on his maw. “Your kingdom has become overrun with lesser creatures, this you are aware. It is time to find a new kingdom, a place where we can be alone.” His sultry words had a serious effect on the femme. She shuddered pleasurably, looking up at the dark brute through heavy-lidded eyes. “You will do this for me?” In that moment, Gemini would have likely jumped off a cliff for him had he asked. She rose to her feet, spun around to the shore once again, and leapt into the water without a second’s hesitation.
Having never swam before in her life, Gemini found the task quite difficult. More than once she called for Azazel to help her, but she couldn’t see him through the spray of her own paddling. The salty water stung her eyes and nose, making her want to start crying. She was terribly frightened, and by the time her feet came into contact with solid ground, she couldn’t have gotten out of the water any faster. Cold, sopping wet, and terrified, Gemini dragged herself onto the beach, panting heavily as she threw herself down on the warm sand. “That was a terrible idea, Azazel!” she barked out. She heard his throaty chuckle long before she saw him emerge from the trees before her. A puzzled look crossed her expression. “You must be a fast swimmer, Azazel.” How else had he managed to get to the island before her? Chaos chuckled again, coming to stand at her side. “Something like that,” he muttered mysteriously. “First thing’s first, Love. You must ensure the island is ours for the taking.” Gemini gave him a puzzled look, confused as to what he meant. But as he lifted his crown to the sky and howled, she understood. Her song joined in with his, twisting into the bright sunshine. To her ears, it was a melody of perfect harmony. To others, it was likely a very lonely, desperate cry.
