grew up in a small town and when the rain would fall down
i'd just stare out my window, dreaming of what could be and if i'd end up happy

AOWYN
This was the place. This was where she had first met him, that wonderful male that she had recently found spontaneously terrifying. Perhaps it was just her imagination, a fear of how he would react, considering her past luck with getting any authoritative figure to like her. Her father had been the alpha, the abusive alpha, the abusive father. Joining another pack had been scary to her because she had been so afraid of a repeat, believed that every alpha was like this, that every authoritative figure would no doubt bring her harm and pain. But he hadn't. He had caused her such joy, had been so kind to her, and then when that night of mating came and went, she hadn't been so sure what to make of it. Feelings weren't her forte all that much, especially emotions of that kind. When she had discovered she was pregnant, how was she supposed to react? She reacted like she normally did.
Aowyn ran away. She was a timid creature by nature and running away was the best solution in her mind. Being pregnant had terrified her, because she was afraid of the reaction she would receive from Rasalas. He didn't even know, and that wasn't fair to him at all, especially when she ran away. Granted, her mind was filled with a fear of several kinds. When she had arrived in Ultoris's pack lands, she had been attacked by a big cat, a bobcat or something. She still felt the tingle of a few wounds. Some scratches remained as small scars, cutting through some parts of her fur, somewhat ruining the seamless of the red femme's fur. She was less worried about them than her swollen belly, which was throwing off her balance and causing her to land on her behind several times as she went with Severus and Fury into the territory Tassos called home. The place she called home.
The femme was grateful for them. Severus had saved her, found herself slightly attached to him, and even now curled slightly into his side as they walked, feeling safe there. Her paws felt comfortable in the sand, she felt at home near the river. She saw the stones and the brush and smelled the water. She recognized the rock that she had been laying upon when she had met Rasalas and she gazed at it momentarily, longingly. Her heart pounded in her chest, adrenaline pumping in her veins, and part of her was suddenly questioning even returning here. It hadn't taken them long to connect she was a part of Tassos, that she had a relationship with the alpha there, and perhaps that opened a possibility of an alliance. She wouldn't mind helping make an alliance happen. The wolves of Ultoris were kind and she could see how they would be useful as an allied pack.
Aowyn left their sides a moment, pacing closer to the river and stepping in so her ankles were covered. It felt nice, familiar, and associated with the memory of running through it at a frantic pace when the volcano had erupted. Her stomach churned, but she smelled the fish swimming in the water, could see them, and then she could hear her stomach growled at her. She backed out of the water to ignore it and hesitated a moment, scared of calling for him. She was worried. What if he didn't come? What if he was angry with her and didn't want anything to do with her? She had been wrong in running away. She should have stayed, should have told him, but would things have been any better? She didn't even know, and it was all this doubt that caused her and others the most trouble. She couldn't afford to get cold feet now, and she couldn't really run away. Her swollen belly certainly slowed her down and she didn't want to jostle the puppies around anymore than she wanted.
The red female sucked in a breath and craned her head back before she could change her mind, releasing the howl and calling for him. The light sound, whole and pure, pierced the air and reached out to wherever he was waiting, wherever he was sitting or walking or even sleeping. She hoped he would hear, prayed he would come, prayed he wouldn't be too angry with her. It had been stupid to leave. Stupid. So stupid.
