With a heavy heart, Ryker had decided to go back to the place that he had been avoiding for so many months. He refused to come here after his brother's murder. It had been a very long time since it happened but he still thought about Taqqiq often. It was true that Taqqiq was weak, well weaker than him, there was no arguing that. But that didn't mean that Ryker didn't love him and care about him. Taqqiq had been one of his best friends despite being Mother's favorite. That hadn't ben his fault. That had been her fault and he wasn't sure that he could ever forgive her for the emotional trauma that she put him though. She hadn't been a good mother, there was no disputing that either. But, he wasn't coming here for her. He was traveling to this place that had been off limits for him for so long for his brother and his sisters. Despite the fact that his sisters actually died in Kamari, he wanted to mourn them all and remember them all in one place. He liked to think that maybe they were up somewhere and watching him. They were important to him and a part of him felt responsible for their deaths. He was supposed to be the ones to protect his sisters and he couldn't do anything about their deaths. He had felt so helpless and so out of control. Remembering that day was difficult.
When he reached the waters of Drarynough. It felt..dark..being here. The air was heavy around him as the day of his brother's death came back to him. He remembered sitting here with him and his brother hardly spoke to him. That was the last time he had ever seen his brother alive. He also remembered pretending to be his brother to his sister, Kyra just to be an ass which was totally wrong of him. He regretted doing that to her. However, if he could play others like that, it wouldn't be a problem.
" Hey, Taqqiq...Happy birthday to us, I guess. Well, it's not really our birthday but I couldn't bring myself to come here two months ago. It was too painful but I think now is..easier for me to talk to you. I mean, if you can actually hear me." Ryker felt ridiculous talking to nothing. He was just staring out into the water and talking, hoping his brother could hear him. He shook his head and continued talking. It was therapeutic in a way. " I feel like we should talk..a lot has happened since..well..you know. My name's Ryker now..I hated the name Tike so Vorilye changed it for me. Shayde's been my adoptive Mother since our Mother took her life. Do you remember Shayde? She was the red wolf we met when we first got here. I know she didn't like you very much but she and I bonded and I think that you'd like her too if you really got to know her. She's got pups of her own now..two little boys and a little girl. I think you'd like them as much as I do."Ryker took a deep breath and looked out into the water some more. She knew that Shayde must have burried his brother's real body somewhere around here. He had no drive to go and find it. He didn't want to see his brother's carcass again. " Listen uh..I've been meaning to tell you, I miss you. I didn't get to tell you while you were still here very well but you were a good brother to me even though Mother always favored you. I'm sorry I was mad at you for her behavior. It wasn't your fault and in the light of everything, that didn't really matter. I would have much rather had you stay here with me and have you be her favorite forever. Also, I'm pretty sure your little cougar cub is dead by now. I haven't seen any around but maybe that's good for you because maybe it's with you..and Mother..and Karima and Tibiki."Ryker took another deep breath. This was all very new to him. His stutter had left him which was a relief for the prince. The water that he sat by was dead looking and lifeless.
Coming here was hard. He hadn't been here in so long and now he was here, talking to his dead brother. But, he felt his presence here. Ryker could feel his brother here and it didn't feel so weird talking to him. He never knew that he could feel this way. It was really nice to be here "with" him. Ryker didn't know whether he could come back here and do this again but for now, he just wanted to sit and remember his brother.
