Fury slowly made his way to the mouth of the cave that he had now called home for several months. As the brute grew closer to the mile-wide opening to the magical place called Aleru, a brisk fall gust of wind ruffled his thick, Arctic pelt reminded him why he was traveling there. The winter months were looming in the near future, and although his adapted coat was there to protect his body from the cold, he was well aware that the pack's prey wasn't so lucky. It was clear that the many sources of food that Ultoris relied on to survive would soon be ready to migrate to a warmer part of the continent or use hibernation to defend itself from the chilly winter months. The remaining prey would be scarce and difficult to catch. Luckily, Aleru was not located at the very northernmost tip of Anikira, for that was where winter hit the hardest with the least amount of forgiveness. However, because this would be Fury's first winter living upon the soil of this magnificent island, he would rather be safe than sorry.
Upon reaching the entrance of the prodigious hole in the rocky cave that allowed sunlight to enter freely, the Arctic male reviewed his plan. In a matter of minutes, he would call out in order to assemble his beloved family - Ultoris. He would discuss the issues that winter would bring in terms of prey. Thankfully, the pack had a territory that would keep themselves warm through any type of snowstorm. The only sources of food that they should consider definite are some of the cave-dwelling prey such as raccoons, foxes, and various amphibians. All prey that Fury's pack relies on that lives outside of the territory may disappear within a few days of the first snowfall that was to be expected in the next few months. He would ask the canines who showed up if they had any suggestions related to the solving of the possible food problems before sharing his own ideas of solutions.
With a deep sigh of preparation, Fury lifted his snout to the roof of the cave and howled an urgent message, "My family, gather now at the entrance to our mighty home, so I may share with you some important information." Ultoris was a rather small pack of wolves, therefore it wouldn't be long before any wolf who was planning to attend this meeting to make their appearance. The Alpha rarely conducted these types of gatherings in which all of his pack members were expected to attend, mostly because it wasn't usually necessary. However, today was different. He needed to speak with as much of the pack as he could manage to summon at one time. The subject matter of the discussion was basically the difference between life or death for the pack.
The tiny size of the pack made it an easy target for the larger surrounding packs such as the great Descai. Even though Fury had faith that his small group of wolves could accomplish anything they put their minds to, he knew that their numbers would need to grow before any hope of defending themselves against any pack who decided to attack. An alliance had formed between the southern pack known as Tassos and his own, but the brute still wanted to build up his forces in case there was a time when Rasalas's pack couldn't come to their rescue. Plus, he wasn't exactly the kind of wolf who was very keen on relying on other beings to defend him and his pack. With the coming of winter prey shortages also came the increased occurrences of packs picking on the weak for their territory in order to expand hunting territory. Ultoris as a pack needed to act fast before they turned into the meal and surrounding canines turned into the predators.
