It was a cool, breezy evening in the Oriens, and Chaika wasn't planning anything special for the night. He had just completed a fruitful afternoon hunt in which he had gained possession of two plump rabbits and a pair of squirrels he had found playing at the foot of a large oak tree. He would've liked to return to the Kinath right then and there to gain some extra sleep, but the low rumbling of his stomach had precluded the brute from getting the easy way out like that. It had been a long day of hunting and hard work for the male, making him tired and sore. However, he knew that he must stop his travels in order to consume one of the rabbits and fill his stomach before he was blessed with a long, much-needed rest. It was certainly taxing to Chaika, the only hunter in Zakur, to be able to feed the pack on his own. Most of the members could supply themselves with enough food to survive, but it was the Timber male's job to ensure that there was a surplus of prey available to any wolf who was unable to hunt during their day's work. Additionally, with the frost winter months approaching, more pressure would be placed on him to provide steady amounts of food for his pack.
Arriving at the edge of the beautiful Nyspoli's Pool, Chaika dropped the four carcasses on the moist, sandy ground. With a sigh, the brute sprawled out on the sand and began to rip off bite-size pieces ofthe smaller rabbit's lifeless body and swallowed them down. His muddy orbs watched the slowly darkening horizon while he ate, observing the shift of colors in the sky from light blue to pink and orange as the sun began to make its descend. The sunset that evening was gorgeous, and the canine was thankful that he had not immediately shut himself up in one of the pack dens, deprived of this beautiful sight that he had been blessed with. It wasn't very often that the hunter was able to wind down and observe a sunset. He only wished that he didn't have to be alone.
When all that was left of his meal was a small pile of bones, Chaika cleansed his bloodied muzzle and paws by standing at the very edge of the pool where the glistening water could lap gently at he feet and he could dip his snout into the surface of the water to both satisfy his thirst and rinse the sticky red substance from his muzzle. His brown orbs gazed at his reflection in the rippled water, noticing the nearly-finished sunset in the background. The only possible thing that could improve his spirits right now would be if the stunning Arctic female, Annabelle, whom he was deeply in love with, was by his side, watching the orange-red sky turn purple and then black with him. He wasn't exactly sure if she was officially his mate (even though that was all he wanted right now), but he did know that she felt the same way about him and had agreed to spend the rest of their lives by his side. The two canines had been spending increased amounts of time together ever since that agreement had been established.
For one thing, the Timber brute wanted to hang around Belle lately because of the mysterious disappearances that had been occuring during the past few months. When the male had first taken notice of a few wolves here and there who were vanishing, he didn't think much of it. But, as the number of missing wolves grew, so did his suspicion. Whenever he and Belle were separated, Chaika felt painfully empty and worried about her well being. Thinking of this worry, the male was reminded that he hadn't seen the Arctic femme since the early hours of dawn for a short hunting trip. The hurt of missing the only wolf on this planet that mattered to him began to set into his body. He sat back on his haunches to watch the final minutes of the sunset before heading back to the dens where he would hopefully find the gorgeous female waiting for him.
