Life was in full swing by the time they had stumbled upon the little pool, lost within the groves of ancient oaks, their foliage a blessed canopy, dimming the sun's rays. Still, despite the promise of warmer weather sitting on the tongues of the aging days, the scenery was still groggy with memories of winter, it's pulse still a gentle thrum that reverberated against the heavy air. Katari could feel the anticipation, both stirring within herself and the creatures they passed. Spring was on it's way, and with it the promise of new life. She squirmed pleasantly at the thought. Before Summit, she had never even thought about what spring would mean other than hot days and crisp nights. It was different now. Ever since they met in the forest, and more recently, their escapade through the mountain ridges, Summit had grown on her. He had dodged her barriers, pushed back when her scarred mind tried to force him away. Their close contact had dulled her fear, and in it's place grew something warmer, something she had been longing to feel for someone other than Ren. Love.
"Summit" she sang softly, eyes grazing muddily over the scenic landscape, "Look what we found. Isn't it pretty?" She knew he would understand her love for such things, to look beneath colour and shape, to breathe in the life of the rocks and trees and water. Ren too, enjoyed such things, but he was not one for words, and beauty was only rarely graced with his verbal descriptions. As it was, Ren had rejoined them now and then as they wandered the eastern part of the island, and though his appearance was spotty, Katari couldn't complain. He always knew when to show up, when fear and doubt chewed on her mind, when she needed to extra company to strengthen the pair through dark paths. Even with Summit, it was nice to see her friend, and his long disappearances were always made up for with colourful stories, his tales of adventures and descriptions of places and people lulling her to sleep when nothing else could. It had only been somewhat recently that she had subdued her mind enough to cuddle up next to Summit for the night, his steady breathing allowing her to drift into a deep sleep. Katari was determined to break down the walls dividing them, even if she was the one who had set them up. The seemingly baby steps had accumulated, and Summit's closeness was now a source of comfort rather than anxiety, though there were still times when the memories were relived in her mind. She had hoped Summit wouldn't get to witness such attacks, but often doubted her ability to play it cool when screams racked the inside of her mind.
Katari looked back towards her... well, she didn't know what to describe him as. Mate, companion, super best friend, all words that didn't seem enough. She loved him to the moon and back. How could a single word describe the amount of things he made her feel, the warmth that even just his voice spread through her? Katari wanted him entirely; she wanted there to be no mistake that she belonged to him. She had adopted the mannerisms of a young pup, giggling when she looked, peeking when she thought he wouldn't notice. He made her bubbly, brought back a spark she didn't know had even gone out. She wanted to give him everything, and yet, she didn't even know what 'everything' was.
"Sumsum...." she mused, her voice faint and distant despite the fireworks going off behind her eyes, "If you could have anything, what would it be?"
