but in dark times, when we close our eyes,
it’s a nightmare, it’s a nightmare.
when the sun don’t shine we lose our minds
but i swear, we can get there.
it’s a nightmare, it’s a nightmare.
when the sun don’t shine we lose our minds
but i swear, we can get there.
The grey pup wanted to explore.
As she made her journey through the jungle, the midday light shone through the branches with a fervor, warming the wet earth under her paws. She didn’t fully appreciate the land that she’d been blessed to live in, at least not during the day. Lethe missed the night sky when the moon rested. Nighttime was better, but she felt tired then. She wondered if she could change the way she lived so that she could be awake then.
The trees began to clear, and she came upon a basin of water surrounded with rocks. The edges of the water were green, but as the shallow water crawled towards the middle, it became clearer and clearer. Lethe could almost see the bottom.
She had felt sad to leave Willow, but she wasn’t sure if her little sister would want to make such a journey, and sometimes she wondered if her little legs got tired when they walked for a long time. She didn’t want to exclude her, but she worried. Plus, she wanted to go see the other pups she had heard about. Their Seraphim, Valeria, had puppies too, Lethe knew. She hadn’t met them yet, but she could smell them around in the rocks. They had been here.
It occurred to her that maybe there was a reason she hadn’t met the other pups yet, but shrugged it off. They’d like her; her siblings certainly seemed to. The Seraphim wouldn’t mind. The tiny fae was brave. She could do this.
Lethe stepped carefully over the rocks and looked into the cool water. Her orange eyes sparkled back at her, and the little girl smiled, looking over her shoulder to see if the Goddess was watching her. She wasn’t. She’d almost forgotten that she went to sleep during the day, and let the sun warm the earth so she could guard it at night. But she knew then that she was only waiting at the bottom of the pool.
The silver hued femme dipped her nose into the water before she reeled back slightly. It was so cold! This water was much clearer than the stuff they had in the jungle. Tentatively she poked her tongue into the water, startled by the salty taste. It was weird, and made her tongue feel dry, but the Goddess loved water, so she did too. She could make it move towards and away from the earth. This water only rippled in the wind, but the fae imagined that she did that, too.
Suddenly, Lethe heard a rustling in the trees behind her. She almost thought she saw a pair of eyes and raised her tail and chin like Auntie Jaienyx did. She made her voice as strong as she could. “I am called Lethe, daughter of Athena,” she said with an eloquence she thought would have made her role model proud.
When nothing returned her introduction, she shook her pelt. Must have been a stoat, she thought, and walked on proudly.
It wasn’t long before she heard the rusting again. “Hello?” she called, sure her voice must have shook. She remembered her mothers warning about something called a jaguar that lived in Kal’dyne. Lethe didn’t know what it was, but she knew it could rip her apart with its claws. She was suddenly fearful. She’d made a mistake in straying so far! The little wolf stood her ground as long as she dared before darting behind a tree. “Stay back, jaguar!” she cried, almost whimpering.
How would she get out of this mess?

(to clarify, it's probably Arya stalking her, not a jaguar. xD POWERPLAY AHOY.)
