[MATURE WARNING TAG: This is a VERY violent thread you have been warned]
Eidus stood among the dark northern woods. The multi colored male sighed at the peace of the scene. The heat of the day had begun to fade and the shadows were beginning to hold a cool edge to them that he found comforting. This land he had found himself suddenly calling home had begun to feel more just like that, home. He moved slowly each paw landing silently on the floor so full of life during this time. His amber eyes roved the surrounding area with a slow peaceful gaze. He was still not yet a member of a pack, though it bothered him little. Whether he had a place to claim as his own or not he had come to accept these lands as where he lived.
His past still haunted him in its own way, images and sounds flashed towards the front of his mind as he walked. Images of a family long gone and a land he would never set foot in again. The sounds of the mountains and the life found so easily there. The voices of his pack now lost among the sands of time. The world he had known had been stripped from him in a blinding moment one afternoon while he wandered. Then he had washed up here in this strange land called Anikira. He had met many wolves and seen many things since that time long ago.
Not too far from the male another male moved through the shadows on an entirely different journey. The dark male moved silently through the shadows of trees following the scent of his prey. Night Wind stalked a shard of his past that he had never thought to meet again. Rumors had filtered among the wolves he had stalked in the south about a multi-colored male wolf in the north. That in and of itself posed no interest to Night. However he had heard a name. A name that was wound in his own history, a member of his own blood line though not a direct sibling. Eidus.
The name brought memories of a time long ago when Eidus had found Night Wind after the dark male had finished killing the last of his own pack in their sleep. Who knows what had brought the male out to visit his Aunt and her family. Night Wind never had a chance to find out why. The male had attacked Night and after driving him into a corner had a moment of pity of the dark wolf. He had let Night Wind go threatening that if they ever crossed paths again then he would end his life. Night Wind had never forgotten that moment in time nor had he ever forgiven his cousin for the weakness he had shown.
He never held a grudge over the other male’s reaction. Though he did not understand it himself the hate Eidus had shown was something he knew well enough to respect. However to have him in the positon to kill and then to pull back at the last moments? That was a sin unforgivable. So lo and behold here Night Wind found himself prowling the northern woods of the land the disgusting humans had dropped him on after he had killed them. This land was full of fools and he wanted nothing more than to finish what had been started by the earth so many years ago, and wipe the land clean of life.
However before that he needed to purge the final weakness of his past. This creature he unfortunately called family needed to die and by his own fangs. So once the rumors had reached his ears he had begun to move north. He tailed the rumors and scents until he had found the lands that the multi-hued wolf wandered. From there he simply began to trace the scent trails until he found himself here. In the dark of the northern woods tracing the newest scent trail. It could not be more than a few moments old judging by the strength of it. His feet fell in a silent rhythm as he continued to pursue his prey.
Eidus moved onwards unaware of the shadow slowly stalking closer to him. The edge of night began to come closer causing his eyes to begin to slowly adjust to the lessening of the light. Eidus had always been one who walked on the edge of the day and the night. His father had even called him the evening walker affectionately. The term had always amused Eidus to many degrees. While his father had used it in reference to his habit of never moving around during the height of day or dark of night, he had felt that it had also imparted some sense of his personality. One who never strode into the light or into the depths of the darkness. He was not a good creature nor was he an evil one. He walked the edge of both worlds doing what he felt needed to be done regardless of the moral implication of it.
As those thoughts wrapped their way through his mind he found himself suddenly upon a beach after breaking out from the woods. At first he merely enjoyed the view of the sun setting on the edge of the water. Its light creating a deep shadow on the island far out into the water. However a sense of memory came to him as he looked out over it. As he moved slowly down closer to the water he began to remember. Memories of the waves and choking salt water. Thoughts of death and the darkness swallowing him. The memory of waking on a sandy shore feeling as if the great ocean had tried to kill him but instead had taken pity on him and spat him out on the shore line. Here was where he had first come to Anikira those many moons ago.
Here he had met Lalani and found someone to care about. Here he had begun to take his first steps towards accepting his new life and the new world he had found. Here it was where he had been found when he hadn’t even known that he had been lost. Eidus came to rest on the edge of the shore and stared out towards the water that had brought him to these lands. His mind wandered what he had seen since then. Also his mind brought forward in more clarity the things that had happened leading up to his unexpected trip. He found himself strangely at peace with his lot in life. However one point of his past stood out in his mind that brought discomfort.
As Night strode forward along the edge of the woods and beach he finally saw his prey. He froze once his eyes lay upon the thorn from his past. The male was a medium sized creature even for his species while Night was on the smaller end of his own breed. He looked over the multiple hues of Eidus’ coat with a slowly boiling hatred. As he watched his old foe he began to move in a slow creep. He aimed to move behind Eidus, that way if he was lucky he could make a straight charge from the back. If he could keep it silent till the last moment he could get his fangs wrapped around Eidus throat and enjoy the feeling of the life blood as it surged from his throat.
Eidus felt the creeping sensation of disquiet slowly intensify. That lingering memory of a fallen family member unsettled him. It had been a long time since he had thought about Night Wind. That shadow of a wolf that had somehow been born from the same blood that had given him life. He still remembered the smell and the images of finding his aunt and her pack dead while Night stood over them their blood still dripping from his maw. It had been one of the few moments in time that Eidus had ever felt a full rage take him over. He barely remembered what had happened past the initial moment of realization. Next thing he could clearly remember was standing over a cowering Night Wind with blood in his mouth. He had barely been able to reign himself in.
The urge to kill his cousin had been overbearing for him. It had pushed him hard to finish the fight and slaughter the cousin that had turned so suddenly on his own pack. However somehow rationality had come through. In the end he had chosen to spare the pathetic black creature. However he had left the creature with a warning that should they ever cross paths again Eidus would kill him with no mercy. The strangest part had been the look on Night Wind’s face. He had seemed, confused and annoyed by Eidus reaction. As these thoughts spun in his mind Eidus suddenly heard a snap from behind him and the thoughts were banished.
Night Wind cursed mentally as the small piece of driftwood snapped underneath his foot. It had been going perfectly up until that little moment of luck gone awry. While he could waste time hoping that Eidus had not heard anything, he had been watching the other male intently. The moment the noise had rang out Eidus had frozen. Night knew that the others senses were now on high alert. There was no point wasting time on stealth and in a moment of honesty, he felt no need to try any subterfuge. The rage and hatred was boiling to the top and his no longer had any urge to control it. With a silent snarl Night dug into the sand with his paws and began charging for his cousins back.
Eidus had let the thoughts slide out of his mind the moment he had heard a noise. The disquiet in him had shot up to alarm. He had been prey before in his life and he knew the sensation of being hunted. As his senses sharpened he heard the grating of sand as it moved under paw. Instinct drove him as he slammed up and spun. As his feet touched he saw a shadow streaking across the sand at him. His mind could barely understand what it was seeing till he saw the eyes. Those cold gray eyes stared at him from the pitch black fur as the lanky body moved rapidly at him. The hatred and death that lay in those eyes could only be one creature. The memories so freshly remembered came screaming back to his mind. The rage freshly renewed exploded inside of him wiping and sense of mercy or pity from him. His fur raised up and his body tensed. He took a deep breath and at the extreme limit of his voice bellowed “Night Wind!”
Night Wind watched as Eidus spun as if it was in slow motion. His senses were tuned to the limit as he charged his oldest foe and the only kill he regretted he had not been able to do. He saw the amber eyes look at him and take him in. Then they connected with his own cold gray ones. In that connection he saw confusion burn away to understanding. Then in that moment the understanding was burned away by a hotter and brighter fire. Hatred. In those amber eyes that many had described as warm and caring he saw only death. In that moment Night Wind was happy. One of them would not walk away from this battle alive. Night Wind intended to make sure that Eidus would be left upon the shore to bleed his last surrounded by nothing but the hungering ocean and his own cries of pain. As Eidus screamed his name out at him Night closed the last of the distance springing into a massive leap to gain advantage as a wordless roar of rage escaped his own mouth.
Eidus watched as Night Wind stretched up into the air above him. His hunting instinct screamed to move to the side to escape the attack as the snarl of rage and hatred erupted from the darkness made real. However rage had different plans. Eidus leapt upwards at his cousin aiming not for his throat or chest but instead the front paw. He reached closing his mouth around Night’s front leg as Night’s own fang came down onto the back of his neck. The position was dangerous for Eidus but he cared little. The only thing he could think of was hurting Night as much as he could so that when he killed him it would be after the dark one had suffered enough. With that thought he closed his jaw down with all the force he could.
Night watched as his cousin went low. He felt a rush of excitement as he saw the opportunity to put his fangs on his own cousins neck came. He brought his fangs down on the back feeling the pin pricks of blood as his fangs slid through the think multi-colored fur and began to penetrate the skin. However the moment was brought short by the sound of what he thought at first was a branch breaking. However the sudden shock of raging pain came from his leg as he realized his cousin had slammed his teeth down on his leg. He felt the bone shatter and rip through the skin even as Eidus brought his teeth down harder grinding the shards of the bone together. Night snarled through the pain latching harder upon Eidus’ neck.
Eidus felt the teeth press harder into his neck, even as he felt the blood rush into his mouth. The grinding of the bones vibrated his teeth as he moved his maw. The pain of the wounds on his neck however told him he had to break free otherwise he would die soon. Without unlocking his teeth Eidus surged back upwards. He felt flesh come away from Night’s leg as he surged back and up even as he felt Night’s fangs drag searing lines across the back of his neck. As they broke apart he backed a few steps away from his cousin snarling through his blood soaked maw at the evil thing he intended to kill. Night his the ground hard his leg buckling for a brief moment before he rebalanced. The leg was tore wide open and the broken bones stood out in stark relief to the dark blood and black fur.
Night snarled as he felt the leg become unresponsive. The pain only fed his hatred more. He pressed forward ignoring the wounded leg his teeth snapping for Eidus face. The motion apparently caught Eidus off guard as the male barely moved his head in time. Night’s fangs caught the others ear though and he felt it shred under his teeth. He took the small victory and lashed out again at the others face pushing him back further. He caught Eidus across the face ripping his lower lip from his lower canine all the way to the jaw. The blood drove his frenzy higher making him hobble quicker lashing out with fangs at Eidus face repeatedly hoping to blind the other.
Eidus felt the fire erupting over the side of his face matching the pain across the back of his neck. The blood he tasted now was his own. However the ferocity of the other wolf stunned him. Even bleeding with a leg more meat then bone the other pressed him back. His paws became wet as the surf started to meet where he walked on the sand. As Night lunged forward again Eidus had enough. As the other wolf lunged pressing his luck Eidus snapped out feeling his canine drag down across Night’s eyes ripping the lid as well as the eyes open. Night rocked back from the bite as Eidus began to push back.
The searing line across his eyes was enough to make even Night’s ferocity take pause. The eye went black the world became flat. As if there was no depth anymore. In a series of bites that matched his own previous ferocity Eidus never gave Night time to pause. As the blood flowed down his face he staggered back. Each bite found a mark. Whether it was his jaw or cheek Eidus began to open more and more cuts on Night’s face and neck. Each one nothing more than a shallow wound but they added up together. The pain had begun to subside from the sheer amount of it all. The blood flowed freely and made the flat world run red. Eidus made one motion though that made Night surge forward. He watched as the other surged forward to press his advantage however the wet sand betrayed the ripped up wolf. His paw slid from under him and he slid down for a brief moment. Night was never one to let a sudden advantage go to waste.
Eidus felt his body rock forward the sand gave out from under him. His body hit hard into the sand and salt water the pain refreshed by the grit and salt. As he hit and begun to rise he felt the teeth close on his back and then felt them slam home into bone. The pain was indescribable as his body bucked from the signals his nerves sent him. He thrashed but the teeth ground harder into his back bringing fresh blood from him as it ran down his sides. In his panic he reached out and bit into the only place he could reach on his opponent. His teeth sunk into Night’s underside as the black wolf scraped at his side with the claws on the only leg that worked. Eidus latched his teeth in and then with a mighty surge lunged away ripping Night open from underneath.
The pain shut off and that was the last coherent thought Night had. He felt the tear in a distinctly distant way. It seemed unreal to him even as Eidus staggered out from under him. He was confused thinking to himself, when had he let go of Eidus back? He tried to shake it off and stand to surge back towards the multi colored male when he realized that his body was not responding right anymore. He looked down and say flesh and gore spread below him on the sand. It seemed unreal to him as he tried to figure out where they had come from. He took a shaking step forward but the world spun around him and he fell to his side letting a muted puff of air as he hit. He stayed there looking up at Eidus who stood but a few short feet away from him wanting nothing more than to wrap his teeth around the throat of the beat up wolf.
Eidus watched as Night lay there in the sand his internals spread around him on the sand staining it red. He watched as the hatred never left the eyes of the wolf as he watched him breathing shallowly. Eidus staggered forward his pain and rage in equal amounts driving him forward. Night let out a muted and weak whine as Eidus’ head dropped down next to his. Barely standing as his body shook Eidus said the only words he could to the black creature “This is for Alcara you bastard.” With that he reached down and with the little remaining strength he could gain wrapped his teeth around Night Wind’s throat and ripped it out.
Eidus staggered back and landed hard barely remaining on his haunches as he watched the life in Night’s eyes die. The gray becoming faded as the blood continued to spread. He watched silently as the dead body stilled and seemed to shrink slightly. As if the spirit of hate had finally left it. Eidus could barely believe that a horror that had started so long ago was finished. Here now and in this moment he was cleansed of the past horror he had left to walk this world. Almost in response to his internal feeling rain began to fall. It was light and seemed to drift like a fog on the ocean wind.
He continued to stare at the lifeless corpse in front of him feeling the blood slowly trickle from his own wounds. The pain was a dull throb that seemed to envelope his entire being. His mind though was oddly at peace. After many moments Eidus stood and the rain slowed and stopped the small dark cloud that had brought it finally moving on out into the ocean. He walked slowly his steps faltering as he turned his back on his past one last time. Bleeding and battered the multi-colored wolf, once stranded and weak, walked towards the wolf a new hardness in his eyes as he moved back to the world that he had made his. It was time time to find his place in the world once and for all.
