After Shayde’s directions to stay away from the pack dens, Kallik had happily obliged, and moved away from them while still staying within the area. The mines were still in her direct sights, although the white shape that was Angel was indistinct. The Mackenzie Valley femme sighed as she lay once more upon the dusty ground, eyes fixed on something that she couldn’t see. She still didn’t know where Vorilye was, and definitely didn’t want to go seek him out, especially since Shayde had told them to wait for him. So, not wanting to hear Angel blather on and on, Kallik had wandered a ways away, beckoning Amyntas to follow her. The truth was, she didn’t want to be alone, not since the loss of her pups.
Kallik had been feeling as if she were going to split in two, unknowing of the fact that, for the most part, she already had. The only thing that was holding her together was the promise of Amyntas to be her friend… Jade eyes glanced at the Arctic brute, and they held enough sadness and agonizing loss to fill the world. She broke her gaze from his and closed her eyes, sighing deeply yet again. ”Amyntas…you will stay here, right? If…if he accepts you. I don’t have anyone here; my pup obviously hasn’t searched me out.” Kallik told him quietly, shivering slightly in the chill night air. ”I don’t think anyone cares for me any longer…why am I even still a part of this world?” she groaned, the last part mostly directed towards herself.
She shot another pained look at Amyntas, trying and failing to keep her pain from the brute. She didn’t want to fall apart on the poor brute again, especially given the position that she had put him in, lying to Shayde about why he was in Acerbus, forcing him to lay in wait for Vorilye… She swallowed slightly, murmuring, ”If…if you want to leave, I understand. You don’t have to stay. Go, leave the territory if you want, just be quick…” She turned her head away from him, as if certain that he was going to get up and leave her. Some part of her wished that he would, so that she could be alone. The thought of suicide kept flitting across her fragile mind, try as she might to repress it. But really…maybe it wouldn’t be so bad. Maybe it would be good. It would stop her pain, stop her worries and sufferings…no one would even care…
The brute shuffled away from his son and his beta, headed back in the direction of the dens where Shayde had indicated Kallik awaited his presence. He was not surprised that the femme had a bitter opinion of Kallik; he had done his best to paint her as a traitorous, blasphemous femme who was trying to pass off her bastard pups as his. Of course his beta would side with him - if she hadn't, there would have been much greater problems than just this issue with Kallik.
What intrigued the brute is that, somewhere in between him meeting up with Tike and Shayde and leaving Kallik behind on her own in the middle of Kamari, she had picked up a brute friend. He chuckled to himself, interested to see for himself the wolf that the femme had now manipulated into paying attention to her. The Kallik he met in Kamari was nowhere near the dependent, sweet femme he had actually started developing feelings for. This femme was bolder, more independent, and a better member for his pack. If she decided to stay, he would not be the one to deny him. However, he was not so sure about allowing a brute into the pack. The last male around had caused problems, and he did not want a repeat of that situation. He especially did not want someone who may dare to challenge his authority.
The brute was on the fence about what to do. On one hand, it was not a lie on Kallik's part that had driven her out of the pack. However, he was not sure how he would have responded had she stuck around. Vorilye had no qualms with her moving on, but he did not want to play house with Kallik's new conquest. Additionally, his pups would always come first, and he would make it clear to this brute that he better keep to himself or risk losing his manhood all together. This was his pack; his family, and he had the first rights to whomever he pleased.
A smile graced the alpha's face for the first time in quite a while. Since all the drama with the cougar, Vorilye had been under and inordinate amount of stress that had nearly driven him insane. He was starting to sort everything out. But what he really needed to do was take the time to talk with Shayde. They had much planning to do, and he was intent that they take action as soon as possible.
Vorilye approached the dens, curious that Kallik would dare bring a strange wolf this deep into his territory. Even though she was the mother of his pups, she was not immune to the rules of his pack. Vorilye never technically considered her to have left the pack, but Kallik thought otherwise. Since she had officially joined Haishin, she needed to be re-accepted to the pack, which meant she was overstepping her bounds by wandering back into the territory without permission, let alone with a friend.
The alpha spotted Kallik straight away, along with a white brute that could have blinded Vorilye if he looked directly at him. The wolf was smaller than him, but he seemed to be fairly fit. Vorilye would have to assess whether this wolf would be a threat to him before he even entertained the idea of letting him stay. Hell, he was not even sure this wolf had intended to stick around. How did he know that he was not correct in the first place, and Kallik had in fact been sleeping around with other brutes outside the pack before he had driven her out? There was no way she could have stumbled across a new friend that she would chance bringing back to Descai in such a short period of time. She must have met him before; it was the only option.
It seemed that Vorilye had been correct about Kallik, after all. She was lucky that the pups had been his; had he found her there on Haishin lands with a litter of bastard pups, they would have all been dead, not just his two daughters. He would not have allowed them to walk away unscathed. This brute could very well have fathered the pups, though, if they hadn't resembled him so dramatically. He could see himself in every one of the pups in the litter, and so there was no need to cause drama. If she wanted to be with her old friend, here, there was no cause for concern.
Vorilye approached the pair, looking straight into Kallik's bright green eyes, as if to tell her that he knew everything. "Welcome to Acerbus, brute. What can I do for you?" he greeted gruffly. He figured one of them would answer for the other, or vice versa, and there was no need to address Kallik as they were already familiar. This was going to be interesting.

With everything that had happened in a very short span, it was a wonder Amyn’s head wasn’t spinning in circles. There was very little time to sit down and think things through before he was thrown into another whirlpool of activity. First it was Kallik, then it was the beta. All that was left now was the alpha. The brute snorted lightly. He was meeting all the important symbols of this pack, one of which had left a nasty taste in his mouth—and she was the tamer of the two. The rumors he’d heard of the alpha’s of these lands was enough to make even a tough guy like him shudder. But even under all this pressure, Amyn remained calm and collected, as if he did such things on a fairly regular basis.
Which couldn’t have been further from the truth. If he had been in a different mindset upon meeting Kallik, he would have simply walked away when she grew hysterical, thus eliminating the need to be sitting beside said femme, waiting for the alpha brute to return from wherever he was. He would have been in the Occasus by now, venturing south until he reached the beaches of Xisyn. From there...who knew? He could have gone anywhere, his future undecided.
Not that it wasn’t now. If the brute decided he could stay, Amyn’s future would be with a pack (which he still wasn’t fully comfortable with). If the brute decided to run him out, his future would be his own. But if the brute decided to kill him simply for being... Would he submit to such a fate? He certainly deserved it, with the amount of blood on his paws, but he was fairly certain that if he reached that critical point that the fight would be to the death. If he ended up killing the other brute, he wasn’t sure if he would have the courage to take up the alpha role.
Amyn growled to himself, shaking his head vigorously. Why did he always have to dwell on the worst possible outcome? He didn’t know for certain that this brute was as unforgiving as the rumors say. Kallik was living proof of that. During her little meltdown earlier, Amyn was fairly certain that the alpha brute had run her out. He had taken her back in, had he not? Surely he had forgiven her for whatever it was she’d done.
Speaking of... Without Amyn noticing, Kallik had walked off. He didn’t have to search far for her, however, as she was settled just a ways away. With a glance at Angel, he rose to his feet and followed after her, standing over her. He tilted his head with a low whine, wondering why she’d wandered off alone. She looked up at him and his heart wrenched painfully in his chest. Her jade eyes were filled with pain and sadness, close to the wild mania he’d seen in her eyes mere hours before. He lay at her side, nudging her muzzle gently with his nose, consoling her. She asked if he would stay and he nearly retorted by saying, “You’re giving me an option now?”, but he kept it to himself. Cynicism wasn’t what she needed right now. “Of course I’ll stay, Kallik. I won’t leave your side unless I have to.”By which I mean if that brute makes me... he added mentally. But, again, she didn’t need to hear that.
The beautiful femme seemed to be spiraling downward again, asking a question he didn’t dare answer. He couldn’t say that he cared for her as he had only just met her. They were sort of friends at this point, but one doesn’t put faith in a wolf he just met hours ago, not even Aymn, whose heartstrings were being controlled by the very femme. But even if nobody cared for her, what reason would that be to no longer belong to the world? Amyn wasn’t the type to believe in suicide—if he did, he wouldn’t still be around—and nearly growled at the femme for even considering it. The desire was silenced when she shot him another agonizing look. He couldn’t get mad at those eyes; he just couldn’t. The words that followed gave him further conflicting feelings, the desire to growl at her battling the desire to comfort her once again. “I told you, Kallik. I’m not going anywhere.” To emphasize his point, the brute licked the top of her muzzle and nuzzled her gently. “I’m right here...”
If anything was going to happen between the two of them, it was cut short before it could even occur. Amyn’s auds picked up the sound of an approaching wolf, and he turned to find himself staring at the black and gold alpha of Descai. At first, he was completely speechless, staring at the other brute in awe. He was larger than Amyn had imagined, though Amyn could certainly hold his own against him. Not that he would even think to try. The brute greeted him gruffly, his eyes sliding over Kallik easily. Amyn jumped to his feet, dipping his head as his own greeting. “Good to meet you, Alpha.” He felt a little foolish acting like a frightened pup, but he genuinely felt a twinge of fear looking at the brute. He made sure to avert his eyes to the ground at the brute’s feet. “I’ve come to join your pack, if it isn’t too much to ask...” Amyn’s eyes darted to Kallik before quickly darting back. He hoped the lie was convincing enough, even if it was beginning to feel less and less like a lie with each passing second.

If Kallik had been feeling anything else besides her depression, she would most likely have snapped at Amyntas for bringing his muzzle so close to hers. After all, she was not the kind of wolf to appreciate others being so close to her – but her situation called for it, and she gave the brute a weak smile as she nosed him back. ”Thank you, Amyntas.” she sighed softly, closing her eyes and allowing herself at least that moments’ comfort. She took a few moments to calm herself down, at least to the point where she wasn’t in danger of bursting into tears. Kallik wondered if the sorrow would ever truly leave her, and some part of her said no. Still, Amyntas’ voice was calming, it soothed her fears of loneliness.
Her lips twitched slightly in a soft smile as Amyntas licked her muzzle. ”Thank you, Amyntas…” Kallik repeated softly, licking him back and nuzzling him rather forcefully. She pulled away and was about to speak again before she saw Vorilye striding up to them. Blinking slightly, Kallik sat up, feeling the heat of embarrassment at having been caught so close to another male warm her fur. She swallowed, feeling uncomfortable and nervous, and ended up gazing at the ground. Amyntas’ voice pricked her auds slightly, and she cast a half-glance towards the white brute. Fear was bubbling up inside her, and she was feeling unstable again. A whine slipped through Kallik’s unwilling maw, although she stifled it quickly. Jade orbs caught the gold eyes of Vorilye, the green staring unhappily at the alpha brute. Why was he still ignoring her? He’d hardly said a word to her since the cougar attack. In fact, he hadn’t said a word to her…
Kallik scowled, suddenly feeling some of her old energy well up in side of her frame. She felt a surge of anger towards the sire of her pups, and her fur was starting to prickle. She deserved better than this, she was sick of being ignored. Sick of the way he looked at her. Kallik snorted, moving closer to Amyntas, growling quietly, ”You know, I wonder if my home truly is here anymore…” Her words were directed to both brutes, though they had a different meaning towards the two. Kallik licked her lips, glaring at Vorilye. ”I see you got Akihra’s blood from your paws. What did you attack her for? She did nothing to you, nothing but protect me and my children from your insanity!” she snarled at him, taking a step towards him.
Kallik knew she would be unhappy here, what with Vorilye ignoring her and Shayde hating her guts. Amyntas didn’t want to stay here, and she didn’t want to force him to, either. She was suddenly sick of this place, sick of the father of her pups. ”And yet you still ignore me…” Kallik growled softly, stepping towards Vorilye. She didn’t fear him anymore, she would never fear him. Narrowing her jade orbs, Kallik hissed into his ear, ”You seemed to care for me when the cougar attacked, but ever since then? Oh no…you never said one word to me.” Kallik pulled away, anger and hate blazing in her eyes, hardening her features. She wanted out, but not before she got a few key things out of her system.

The alpha brute could not contain the smirk that spread across his face as the white wolf jumped to greet him, a tiny flicker of fear evident in his eyes. Vorilye was always happy to see such a reaction. If it was truly the case, then this brute would be of no danger to him. Vorilye could hold his own against the toughest of wolves, but no one who had dared to challenge him had bothered to show fear upon their first introduction. This brute, whoever he was, was safe. In fact, it might very well be a good security blanket for Descai to have a brute or two under the belt that was not related to him. Tike was a wonderful addition to Descai, in the event hat he decided to remain with his father, but he was not full grown. Vorilye intended to assure that Tike could strike fear in the hearts of the wolves of Anikira. He wanted an heir, though not in the sense of pack leadership.
No, Vorilye wanted a puppet. His son gave him the opportunity to start over once more and do things the right way. He would not allow these pups to turn out the way his first litter had. Vorilye wanted a relationship with them first off, and submissiveness to his leadership. He could not have any of the insubordination that he had turned a blind eye to because they were his children before. No one was safe from his scrunity. Vorilye intended to weed out the weak and keep those who may have reason to challenge his authority away from the heart of the pack. They were a liability, a risk, and most of all, useless sacks of meat.
The brute had all but tuned Kallik out until she threw out bits about Akihra and how she did nothing to deserve the alpha's rage. Vorilye turned to stared down at the smaller femme, his body towering ominously over her as his lip curled back in a snarl. No one dared to talk to him like that without repercussions.
"The blood of an alphess is always good blood," he sneered. Vorilye never intended to take a mate, and so he was not condemning a future pair bond to the slaughter. "Do you know what that bitch did, huh Kallik? Do you know what she really is?" A maniacal laugh ripped through the brute's lips as he took one step toward the femme before halting in place. He would not lay a paw on her this time, but she needed to know.
"Your precious little Akihra came to me months ago to tell me just how beautiful my children were," he spat with fire smoldering in his golden eyes. "Tell me just how pleased you would be if another wolf rubbed your family in your face, then turned their back and walked away. She would not tell me where they were or where you were. I wanted to see my children." His eyes narrowed to mere slits. The femme did not need to know that, whether the pups were his or not, he wanted her dead at that point. His rage had simmered down quite a bit from that time, and he may have wished bodily harm on her, but the death wish against the mackenzie valley femme had slowly slid away.
He snorted, staring down at the femme. "You don't realize it, do you? Your daughters, our daughters' deaths are on her paws. While you stood on her lands like a coward and kept my pups from me, I searched to bring them home. While Akihra sheltered you and my pups from sight, she effective signed their death certificates," he spat, "and had she let me in, had you let me in, then they would still be alive, now wouldn't they?"
He left the words hanging, his eyes boring straight into Kallik's piercing green ones. He knew this femme, to some extent better than she knew herself. Why would he feel the need to speak with someone who had played a part in the death of his daughters? She was just as guilty as Akihra for their deaths, and she had no choice but to open her eyes to the reality that was before her.
"I may have driven you from Acerbus, but you knew those pups were mine the minute they were born. Did you not think for one second... For one GOD DAMNED SECOND that I was not heartless enough to turn away my children?" he hollered, not caring who heard. Something inside the brute had snapped. While he may have been callous toward other wolves, pups were a sign of innocence and new life. He was different around pups, particularly his own, than with adult wolves. They were so innocent, so impressionable and they depended on their elders.
His daughters had depended on Kallik and Akihra. And where were they now?

Vorilye || Mackenzie Valley Brute || Eight Years Old
It seemed as if a time bomb had gone off shortly after the alpha brute made his appearance. Kallik, who had seemed nervous of the brute, suddenly stepped closer to Amyn, growling bitterly at the alpha brute. Or maybe she was speaking to both of them. If her home wasn’t here and she decided to leave, Amyn had no reason to stick around. But it mattered not if she was speaking to him or not. She soon turned her attention to the black and gold brute, furiously lashing out at him. Amyn felt a twinge of surprise, seeing the femme stand up for herself against the brute. Where he himself had been intimidated by his presence, she seemed to care little about his air, giving him a piece of her mind without restraint. Amyn wished he had that courage.
The alpha brute didn’t just stand there and take her thoughts silently. Before long, the ex-mates were standing rather closely, glaring into one another’s eyes. The tension was beginning to make Amyn nervous. He felt as if he should slink away and let the two of them solve the issue on their own. But there was a small chance the alpha brute would attempt Kallik harm, and he wouldn’t be able to live with himself if he hadn’t stuck around to protect her. So, while the alpha brute went into a rage, Amyn stood stoically beside Kallik, insides churning with fear and adrenaline.
From the little he deciphered during his first encounter with Kallik, Amyn knew that the brute had run her out, believing the pups she was carrying weren’t his. But as the alpha brute told the story in his own words, the arctic brute began to piece the puzzle together in his mind. The alpha was clearly not a wolf who held any respect for Kallik. Did he hold respect for any other being besides himself? Amyn didn’t care to ask. But why would he run her out for believing she was carrying another’s pups? Had she claimed they were his? They had been mates once—and, well, the pups were his. The arctic brute’s head spun. Despite all the details he now knew, there was still a fair bit he was missing. He just couldn’t figure it all out on his own.
When the alpha brute began blaming some wolf named Akihra for the death of their pups, Amyn scowled at him, stepping forward. “You don’t know that for certain,” he stated. After a second, he quickly added, “Sir,” not wanting to offend the alpha brute. “The blame is on the creature that murdered your children.” Amyn stepped in front of Kallik, as if to shield her from the alpha’s harsh words. “She tried to save them, and if I assume correctly, so did you. Nothing is going to change the fact that they were killed.” He turned back to Kallik, eyes hard yet still soft around the edges. “And just because he hasn’t spoken to you does not mean he is ignoring you. For all you know, he may not have known what to say to you.” His eyes grew sad and he quickly turned away from her. “I certainly didn’t...” he muttered, stepping back to her side once again.
The added words had a double meaning: he truly hadn’t known what to say to Kallik when they first met, but he also hadn’t known what to say to Naomi those years ago. Meeting this femme who had just lost her pups could not have been a bigger coincidence for the brute. Where he had taken the wrong course of action with Naomi, he felt he could make up for the wrongs he caused by staying with Kallik. The gods were giving him a second chance. He wasn’t about to screw it up.

Kallik stood, tall and rigid before Vorilye as he spewed scorn at her, her jaw clenched tight to keep from snapping at him, her eyes cold and steely. Oh how she wanted to claw his muzzle again. A quick glance told her that she hadn’t left any visible scars from all those months ago. ’It’s a pity.’ Kallik thought with a silent, derisive laugh that echoed in her mind. ’If I’d scarred him, it’d certainly match his personality.’ she added glumly, turning her attention back to Vorilye’s words. Finally, she could take it no longer. Kallik’s green eyes snapped into slits and her lip curled over her canines. ”Why on earth would any decent wolf tell you where I was? You ran me out, you called them bastard pups! I wasn’t going to crawl back to you, especially not when I had newbown pups!”
Kallik’s snarls rose louder as anger shook through her multi-hued frame. But when she spoke again, her voice was much quieter, but filled with such icy venom that the femme was surprised the air didn’t freeze. ”I tried letting you in! You refused! You wanted to make me an Omega like that bitch Alanna! She wanted to rip out my throat because I sat in the wrong fucking spot!” Kallik told him, shaking her head and taking a step away. Taking a deep, calming breath, Kallik growled, ”I tried, as hard as I could, I did. I taught myself to hunt, to fight, to be a better mother than my own was, I taught myself how to speak for Tor’s sake! I raised those pups as best I could…”
Kallik shot a glance at Amyntas before she looked back towards Vorilye, a pleading look in her jade eyes. ”…but Amyntas is right. The deaths of Tibiki and Karima are the cougar’s fault. But if you insist on blaming anyone –“ Kallik’s eyes became steely and hard once more. ” – blame yourself. If you could only trust others, you never would have run me out, or humiliated me by making me an Omega. I was telling you the truth the entire time. If you only trusted me, all of our pups would be here, with us. But now Karima and Tibiki are dead. Taqqiq abandoned us, and I think Kyra followed him.” The Mackenzie female let out a sigh as she moved away once more, sitting down heavily and glaring at the ground, brooding.
Kallik looked to Amyntas and muttered, ”Well I’m sick of being ignored. I don’t deserve to be treated like that. All I want is a little respect from him.” She sighed again and looked to Vorilye, murmuring, ”I’m sorry if you suffered these past months. If I’d have known you actually cared, I would have come back and brought our children.” Kallik didn’t really understand her feelings at the moment, and as such she couldn’t help her sudden changes in mood. But she was feeling sorry, not only for herself but for Vorilye and their children as well. She wanted to make it up to them, all of them, in some way. She just didn’t know how she could.
Kallik frowned sadly at Vorilye, the light dying from her beautiful eyes once again. ”I want to move past this.” she told him quietly, her body seeming to sag once again from the strain and burden she’d placed upon herself. She gave Vorilye a pleading look once again, hoping they could work something out.

The only thing that was keeping Vorilye from jumping to rip out the throats of the two wolves in front of him was the fact that he did not want to clean up the mess afterwards. These two were grating on his very last nerve, and the fact that the brute had the guts to step into what was obviously his and Kallik's business further angered him. He was struggling to keep the straight face he always wore; he was wrestling with an angry monster that, given the right provocation, would surface without an ounce of remorse. This was not the brute's fight, and it would do him well to stay out of it before he took the fall for Kallik's mistakes.
Vorilye did an excellent job of tuning out the femme, much like he did with several of the members of his pack apart from Shayde, and went about his thoughts. He was eager to be buried deep inside the dens, lounging for the first time in what seemed like forever. Kallik continued to drone on and on for the longest time, rattling off about the most trivial of things, calling him psychotic; the works. It was nothing new for the brute. But what really brought him back to the present was one measly sentence that he very well could have missed.
"But if you insist on blaming anyone, blame yourself."
At that, Vorilye's attention snapped straight back to the mackenzie valley femme. She may have been the mother of his pups, but at that very second, the brute could not have cared if a pack of rabid hyenas tore her to bits. The absolute fury that ran through his body was so overwhelming that it took every ounce of control he had to keep from snapping her smaller body into pieces. There was no arctic brute there any longer. All he could see what a femme who had the nerve to look her alpha in the face and tell him that he, not her cowardice, had caused the death of his daughters.
"If you remember correctly, you would have all been dead had I not shown up when I did," he spat in pure hatred. "Why did I even think you were worth it? I thought you were different than all those manipulating wolves around here. Thought you would trap me into special treatment just because you were carrying my pups. Well, Kallik, let me tell you something. This is my territory, and I take what I want. You are no different. I wanted you, so I took you. But just so you know, you're no better than my god damn bitch of a mate."
It had been well over a year since any mention of his former mate had slipped past the brute's lips. Many believed that Vorilye was much too cold and heartless to even contemplate monogamy, but all it had taken was one blown chance to ruin him for the rest of the world. "You think I can't trust anyone? Damn right I can't. I almost died because I trusted. And so help me God, I won't make a stupid mistake like succumbing to emotions ever again," he sneered, his eyes sliding past the now useless femme to her brute friend. He had obviously been a witness to the whole conversation and had stupidly thrown his thoughts out in the midst of their argument, but he had sense enough not to challenge him.
"You are free to join my pack, brute. I believe you are more than a worthy brother to my pack," he grunted, a stink eye still falling on Kallik. "But keep in mind, I do not tolerate poor behavior. What you have witness, it will not happen again." The words were an obvious warning to Kallik. Vorilye would not hesitate to end her if she so much as stepped a paw out of line on his territory again. There was nothing he wished more than to never have met her. The pups weren't worth it. The emotions weren't worth it. She was not worth all the trouble she had caused him.

No matter what Amyntas said, it was quite clear that these two weren’t going to pay him much mind. With a deep sigh, the brute sat on his haunches, half-listening to the barking back and forth between the two former lovers. It wasn’t anything close to what would be called a lover’s quarrel, as the two were no longer lovers, but it held the same qualities. The arctic brute should never have spoken up. They needed to fight it out amongst themselves without any interference from any outside party.
So the brute sat there calmly at Kallik’s side. If she were to need his assistance, he would be right there to lend a paw. And if the alpha brute decided to change face and attack the femme... Though he truly didn’t want to, Amyn would have no choice but to take the brute on. It would be a fight that would end one of their lives. Amyn just hoped it didn’t come down to such violence. It wasn’t that he was afraid the other brute might kill him—he would welcome death without a fuss when it came for him—he was worried instead that he might not be able to stop himself after attacking the brute. His darker side tended to last for some time after his opponent was down. Kallik would be too close should a fight break out. He could very well harm her by mistake.
A nearly inaudible whine slipped out of Amyn’s maw. He kept focusing solely on the fighting and the death. Why couldn’t he think of the good things life has to offer? Because it’s all in your past, Amyntas, a voice in his head told him, sounding oddly like Zephyr’s. It gave the brute a chill. Happiness and peace are for wolves who deserve it. You really think you’re deserving? Amyn shook his head rigorously, trying to get his thoughts to stop this cycle. Of course he didn’t believe he was deserving, but why had the gods given him a second chance by throwing Kallik across his path? It had to mean something.
The brute turned his golden gaze upon the riled up femme at his side. He looked at her endearingly, as if she was some sort of angel sent to rescue him from his never-ending hell. She was his solace, his sanctuary, the only good thing he could see—especially given his current location. Angel had been kind enough, but she was nothing in comparison to Kallik. The femme at his side was brave and stood up for herself against a brute that could easily kill her if he so chose to. She probably knew that fact and yet still stood there glaring at him.
Amyn was gazing at her with a warm smile when she finally turned and addressed him. Flustered, he tried to figure out what it was she’d said, given that he’d been too busy staring at her. He figured a curt nod would suffice as a response. Before she could figure out that he kind of wasn’t listening, he turned away, heat rising under his pelt. That was a close call... He tuned in properly this time as she apologized to the alpha brute, though he didn’t seem to really care one way or another. The focus of the other brute’s smoldering gold gaze was turned onto Amyn, who immediately straightened up as if he was about to receive an important order. What he heard stunned the arctic brute. He was accepted? Really? Maybe this brute wasn’t all that bad after all.
Amyn wagged his tail in a friendly manner, and was about to speak up when the alpha brute cut him off. His words were a clear warning, and Amyn knew better than to take such words lightly. He immediately dipped his head. “Understood,” he muttered, glancing at Kallik. He was fairly certain the threat wasn’t just for him, though he couldn’t tell from the femme’s expression whether she had picked up on the fact as well or not. He turned his gaze back to the alpha brute moments later. “I am honored to join your pack, Alpha.” The words felt like tree sap dripping from his tongue, but he’d said them as if he honestly felt that way. Now that he was part of the pack, he could remain close to Kallik. At least until the day she decided to go off on her own. But even then, he would stay by her side.

It was painfully obvious to Kallik that Vorilye was still paying her little to no mind, but she couldn’t help continuing her rant. She’d been wanting to say all those things for months and months, and even though it caused quite a bit of backlash, she was proud of herself for telling Vorilye and finally standing up to him. Even so, his words stung her like millions of wasps; wasps that refused to die and simply kept stinging and biting her everywhere. So, she had been used…she’d been right the whole time. He had never cared for her, not once, not even one little bit. He’d used Kallik because he was a brute, a lusting, good-for-nothing asshole who’d toyed with her fragile emotions.
Kallik snorted softly, putting on a brave, uncaring sort of bravado, attempting to hide the pain that had just delivered yet another blow to her shattered psyche, her broken heart. She wasn’t sure if she would ever be completely normal again. It would take much more than…well, whatever it was that she had in order to fix the poor girl. Her children had either died or left her, the brute she’d pined after even though he’d wanted her dead had gone and scorned her, and she had no friends. Kallik wasn’t even sure if she had a family anymore. Blinking back tears, Kallik whispered, ”Vorilye, I never wanted this to happen. All I wanted was a home, someone who could understand me and accept me for who I am. I’m sorry for everything that happened.”
Pulling away from Vorilye and moving back to Amyntas, she sighed and looked away. She had something like a home, although no one understood her yet, nor truly accepted her. But perhaps that would all come with time. Kallik nodded slightly as Vorilye spoke to Amyntas; she’d caught the warning in his words. ”No, Sir, it won’t.” she growled, coldly and bitterly, avoiding his eye. She vowed to herself that she would avoid Vorilye whenever possible, she would never see him as anything more than her alpha, and that her pups had been a mistake.
Although she loved her children deeply, it seemed as if they didn’t love her back. That was fine with her – if they wanted to be as cruel and as cold-hearted as their father, well, so be it. They were old enough now to make their own choices, and Kallik had little power to persuade them otherwise. After Amyntas had accepted his position into the pack, Kallik nudged him. ”I…I think I’m going to go for a walk.” she muttered, avoiding his eye as well. She wasn’t sure why she didn’t want to look at Amyntas, but right then, it didn’t really matter. All she wanted was to get away from Vorilye. Feeling repulsed at what she was about to do, Kallik slowly dipped her head towards Vorilye, truly submitting to him for the first time in the year they’d known each other.
It ended quickly though, and Kallik turned her back on Vorilye, facing Amyntas. ”I’m not sure what you’re going to do now, but I wouldn’t mind company.” she told him softly, forcing a small smile upon her lips as she licked his muzzle. Kallik still didn’t really know how mates acted, and as such she didn’t think anything of her actions towards Amyntas. She was merely being friendly; it didn’t mean anything to her. She pulled away and headed off, her paws wandering aimlessly. She couldn’t hang around the mines anymore, nor Vorilye, but she wasn’t exactly sure where she would be going. Either way, all she really wanted right now was to get away.
