Tike ran. Anger burning inside of his heart like a raging fire within his soul. His lungs were pounding. Half from running and half from anger. He was blinded by the anger inside of him. He prayed that he wasn't going to run into any of the trees that surrounded him.
He was angry that his brother was always liked better than him for no reason. He was angry that his mother was cuddling up against some strange white wolf. He was angry that his sisters had died. He was angry that he hadn't met his own father until recently. He was angry that his sister had yelled at him for caring about her and coming to see her. He was angry that the red fae yelled at him for asking a question about a fae who was going to die. All of this pent up anger inside of his heart had to be let out somewhere, on someone. He growled as he ran, ready to kill anything.
He smelled something. What was it? He slowed his pace as the smell intrigued him more. It smelled like rabbits. Like a family of rabbits. Tike laughed cynically to himself as he stalked their smell to them. There they were. There was buck and and a doe and several baby rabbits. A smile curled upon his lips as he set gaze upon them. Who would he kill first? Hmm..decisions..decisions. He thought for a few seconds, watching them. Making sure none of them left. He couldn't see the babies but, the smell from the parents suggested that there were babies around. Tike had learned to pick up these smells from practicing back in Kamari when he was younger. See? His sisters weren't the only ones that went off exploring. He decided to get the parents first and then the children. He wanted them to feel his pain. He wanted them to feel pain in general. He wanted them to see their parents dead on the ground before their own deaths came upon themselves.
He burst from his hiding place and both the buck and the doe went running in different directions. Tike chose to take the mother first. He chased after her. His long legs paired with his body being temporarily on the thinner side, it wasn't difficult to catch up with her and to grab her. He flipped her on her back, keeping a paw on her stomach, looking into her eyes. I bet you want to see you kids again don't you? DON'T YOU?!" He screamed in her face with his toothy mouth. The doe rabbit nodded quickly. TOO BAD! Tike screamed at her again, before slicing her throat open with his sharp, knife like claws. He smiled, pleased when her warm blood began dripping from her almost lifeless body. He hadn't given her a lethal strike on purpose. He wanted her to suffer. He laughed again before picking her body up and bringing it back to where he assumed that her babies were hidden underground.
When he had gotten there, he had forgotten all about the buck rabbit who had run in the opposite direction. He focused all of his energy on the babies hiding beneath the earth's surface. He lay the doe's now lifeless body on the ground before he began the dig. It wasn't long before he found three very frightened baby rabbits. They were fluffy and had big eyes. He pulled them all out together. Their heads were small enough that all three of them could fit in his mouth at once. He put his paws across their stomachs' as well but, he didn't kill them right away. He wanted them to suffer the most. He breathed heavily as he thought of each of their lives fading away from them. He smiled before breaking each one of their legs one by one with his mouth. They were all screaming in pain an agony, it was like nails on a chalkboard. Their little voices screaming for their mom and dad. They obviously hadn't seen that their mother was already dead. Oh, you want your momma? Well LOOK! She's over there dead! You little bastards! Tike yelled at them again. Their wails only got louder after they had seen their mother's death. That feel good doesn't it! DOESN'T IT!? Having your beloved family members ripped away from you by some stranger. Tike got very close to their faces as he cooed to them in a cynical way. His tones would make him sound completely insane. In a sense, he was insane. All the little baby rabbits were stiff with fear and wouldn't move. Tike laughed as he saw them shaking. He was now trotting around them. Playing with their deaths. He did this for about five minutes before finally ending their lives. But, he still wasn't satisfied yet as a cold fall rain started to fall onto his back. The rain chilled his body but, not his soul. He hardly noticed the out-of-season rain.
He went over to the mother's body and ripped the head off of the body. He then threw the head away from him. He laughed as he saw it roll in the now wet ground. He then went over to the baby rabbits and ripped off all of their broken little legs. He threw his head back to the raining clouds. But, not to howl. No. This was a different type of call. Do you hear me now Tor! Huh? Do you hear me! Look at what I did! Look at what you turned me into! He screamed to the heavens. Only now did the brute have his tears burn his cheeks. This had been the first time that his jade colored eyes produced tears. Why did you do this to me!? Why?! You took my sisters from me! They're dead now! I hadn't even met my father until a few days ago! My own mother loves my brother more than me! Why?! My sister loves him more too! Why?! Tike belted out to the heavens, screaming at a being that he didn't even know that he believed him. His mother had told him stories and such but, he didn't know for sure if he was real. But, if he was, Tike was pissed at him. He slunk to the soaking ground and wept. He was unable to scream any more.
He never wanted to feel this way again. He would never feel this way again. It wasn't long until he fell into sleep.
The desire to tear into the flesh of another living creature was what drove Shayde from the little meeting. That pretty femme and the big brute had trespassed and yet did little to give her a reason to attack them. It wasn’t her place to issue them clearance into the pack. All she could do was allow them to remain. She probably could have run the brute out—his excuse for being in the territory was still...questionable. The pretty femme, however, had two pups wandering about with a story that pretty much matched hers: Alpha was their father and had given the whole family clearance into the territory. If it was all a lie, the alpha would probably kill her for allowing them in, but how was she to know? Three wolves ventured into the lands with the same story. That doesn’t strike Shayde as a coincidence, no matter how she looks at it.
The Descai beta loosed a low growl. This whole thing had blown way out of proportion. Not too long ago, she had been promoted to her very position. And all she had to look at was a measly pack of three wolves: Alpha, herself, and Angel. Simple and easy to maintain. In such little time, it seemed that the pack had swollen to—what was it now?—potentially eight wolves. She had no idea if Alpha would accept the femme resting in his dens or the large brute rubbing up against his ex-mate. Shayde growled again. She was completely lost in what she ought to be doing. Should she just run them all out or should she continue to let them stay? Either way, she knew she would feel his wrath. A wry smirk appeared on her maw. I could always get the hell outta here before he gets back, she mused. But she knew she couldn’t do that. She was the beta, and the amount of trust she deceived herself into believing the black and gold brute had in her was enough to shoot the thought down.
A screaming voice rang out ahead of the femme and she perked her ears towards the sound. Hm? What was that? Shayde kept to the shadows as she crept forward silently, eyes and ears fixed on the location ahead. The scream of a rabbit filled the air, along with the strong scent of blood. Seconds later, a buck rabbit came bounding towards her at full speed. He slid to a stop when he spotted her, changed direction in the blink of an eye, and took off once again. The femme arched an eyebrow. Something interesting was happening up ahead. Ignoring the desire to chase after the buck, Shayde stepped forward, slipping behind a tree when the scene unfolded.
One of the black and gold pups from before was in a little clearing, his golden paws soaked with blood. The lifeless body of a rabbit was clenched in his jaws... No, not lifeless, Shayde thought as she saw the rabbit squirm. This only made the blood drip faster down the brute’s maw. And what the beta witnessed next made her grow more intrigued by the pup. He yanked three fluffballs from the rabbit den and, from the sound of their screaming, he began to torture them. She probably could have stopped his madness, but it was kind of entertaining her, as twisted as it sounded. Her own anger quelled at the sight of another’s pain, even if it wasn’t her performing the deed. She was quite glad she took this walk. But what had caused this brute’s madness? She was truly interested, for once, in another wolf besides herself.
Shayde watched as the brute continued to torture them before he eventually finished playing with his food. A chilly rain fell from the sky, causing the femme to cast an angry glare upward. It was a little late in the season for a shower like this. And it was cold. She wasn’t in any mood to return to the dens (she would likely end up in another foul mood from the two loners at the site), but she didn’t really want to continue venting with a wet coat. Regardless of her turmoil, she couldn’t just step out of her hiding spot. The brute was still going at it, acting like more mad with each moment. He ripped off the mother rabbit’s head, turning to the kits and ripping something off of them too, though Shayde couldn’t see what. At that point, he seemed satisfied with whatever he was doing. Shayde waited for his little meal to begin, but he instead shouted to the heavens. What have all these wolves been put through? It wasn’t the first time she’d heard this same information. Kallik had wailed about it while trying to keep the beta from running her out. The beta sighed. Maybe she ought to get the whole story from these wolves. Hearing bits and pieces was going to drive her crazy.
Though not nearly as crazy as it was driving the pup before her eyes.
He eventually calmed down, slumping to the ground where he fell still. Shayde wondered briefly if he had just had enough of his life and felt like lying there until something came along and ate him. Or, she mused cynically, something will come along and play with him as he had the rabbits. The silly pup hadn’t even eaten his kills, which from Shayde’s eyes was an insult. She strode forward without a care and scooped up one of the kits, seeing now that the pup had removed all of their back legs. It hardly fazed her. After swallowing the mini-meal, she stepped over to the brute. He seemed to be asleep. Uncaring that he probably needed the rest, she nudged him vigorously in the stomach.
“Get up,” she growled at him. She turned around again, scooping up another kit. “You have much to learn, Pup, if you still take out your anger on a pack of helpless meat.” She swallowed the last kit, turning to the pup. “Get up! Let’s teach you how to really dispel your rage, hm?” There was something she really liked about this pup, something she couldn’t quite place. Maybe it was his brother complex or the fact that he was alone and suffering. Whatever the reason, she had this strange urge to lend him a paw. She crouched low, smirking and narrowing her eyes slightly, as if to egg on the little pup. “I’m not about to let you wallow in your self-pity like some hopeless sap. There are too many of them wandering this island. Adding to that population is a disgrace.” She slapped her paws on the ground, as if she was playing with him, but her eyes and bared fangs told another story. “Let’s go, Pup!”

There was something cold, pushing on his stomach. It wasn't as sharp as the rain that continued to pelt his back. It was a smoother feeling, like someone's nose. The rain had masked the smell of the wolf who was now pushing his gut and demanding that he get up. He didn't really want to get up. He just wanted to lay there and be miserable. He wanted to be left alone to self-destruct. Reluctantly, he opened his bloodshot eyes to see the red beta that he had pushed the other fae with the pretty colors back to the pack dens. His tears had long stopped but, the effects that they had on his eyes, still remained.
He saw that she had taken one of the kits that he had tortured and killed. Tike didn't really care. He wasn't going to eat them anyway. His blood stained maw looked up at the fed fae, he wondered what she wanted with him. Couldn't she see that he was suffering? Didn't she understand that he wanted rest? Apparently not. He stayed on the ground watching the red wolf swallow the remaining kits. She has said that he had much to learn if he only took his rage out on rabbits. That was true. He would have much rather taken a blow at his brother or at least another wolf. Killing the rabbits was easy, they were nothing. Mere snacks that Descai's beta had swallowed without much effort.
She wanted to teach him how to dispel his rage. That would be fun. He wondered how she was going to do that. Were they going to fight? Fighting was always fun and a good way for Tike to release those unwanted emotions. A wryly smile curled on Tike's bloodstained, golden lips. Tike, sort of liked the beta in a way. She was strong and could stand on her own feet. She took charge well and, he sort of..respected her for it. Tike didn't respect many wolves, he barely respected his own mother so, she was ahead of many others in that regard. Tike rose to his feet as he paw pounded the ground. I couldn't agree with you more. Tike told her as he too crouched low and narrowed his emerald eyes and bared his bloody teeth at her. Waiting. Waiting for what was coming next. The sappy wolves around the island were unbearable. He had met a few of them on his way over here. They were spineless fools. Idiots whose life would be taken from them by another. He refused to be like them. He was strong, too strong for that sort of behavior. He had gotten his screaming done with. He had gotten everything that had been building up inside of him for seven months of his life, out. Now, he was done with those things. He was ready to move on now. Maybe it was faster than others in his family but, he had always been different and if you would ask Tike, he would say that he was better than others in his family as well.
This was the new Tike. The better Tike. The stronger Tike. The Tike that had been laying on the ground moments ago had gone like the rain running to the lake. His life would start anew today. The past was done with. He was done feeling upset because the whole world was against him. He didn't care now who was against him. It didn't matter. He would show them all a heart of stone and sink them with it.
(( awwhh she made him feel better <3 kinda lolol))
As she waited for the depressed pup to rise to his feet, Shayde glanced around the little clearing, searching for the little fuzzball that had been following him before. But the critter was nowhere in sight. She turned back to the pup, arching her eyebrows. “You’re not the pathetic one who feels obligated to cart around the competition, are you?” She eyed the pup with even more intrigue. Why was it that he felt his brother was the better of the two? From her eyes, he was far more interesting. He had a temper that clearly rivaled her own, though he had yet to learn how to vent properly, and though he had fallen into a pathetic state, he appeared quick to get back on his feet. The beta wouldn’t be surprised if his twin was lying in the rain somewhere, crying his eyes out, though from the look of the pup before her, he had been doing the same. She made sure not to point out that she noticed, however.
Males and their pride and all that.
Shayde tilted her head slightly, pleased to hear the pup agree with her about her views on sappy wolves. He even seemed up for the challenge of a fight, though he didn’t make a move as she was expecting. His stance was a little off, but he was still young. She would fix that really quick. “What’s your name? I can’t be calling you ‘Pup’ all the time, can I?” Even if he gave her a name, however, she was likely to continue calling him ‘Pup’. At least until he grew up a bit. He may have a good amount of weight and height on her, but she had at least a few year’s experience that he didn’t have just yet. He wouldn’t be considered ‘grown up’ in her eyes until he had earned her trust, which was not an easy thing to gain. The beta thought briefly of the alpha brute, wondering if she truly trusted him any longer, given that he kept his family a secret from her. She shook her head. Now is not the time to be thinking of that.
The beta rose from her crouched, defensive position, appearing to lose all hostility in the blink of an eye. That wry smirk never faded from her maw, and the glimmer in her red-brown eyes gave little away of what was to come. It almost appeared as if she had given up challenging him to a fight. She strode closer to the pup, waiting for even the slightest expression change from that rough-and-ready thing he had going on to confusion or even curiosity. The moment there was even a hesitant flicker, she rushed forward, fangs bared, claws lashing out. But she didn’t actually land a blow. She purposely came dangerously close, trying to force the pup back to dodge. Before he could retaliate, she darted off, pausing once to give him a look of challenge.
And the chase began.

Tike snorted and laughed as the red fae asked him if he was the one who carried around the little cougar cub with him No, that would be my saint of a brother. He snapped the word saint out of his mouth like it had been poisonous. His brother was alright if one liked wolves like him He was soft, like the mud. Tike loved his brother because they were brothers but, there were some things about his sibling that he couldn't stand. The biggest one though was that he was mushy and everyone liked him better than himself. Honestly, Tike thought himself to be better than his brother. At least he didn't rely on others as much. The one good thing about being the least favorite in a family was that you learned to be on your own. You learned how to do everything without any help from anyone. Tike was used to being alone and figuring everything out for himself. That had been his life. He did however, not expect his brother to stay here in the pack lands very long. The pack here was too tough for him. He got that sense from the beta before him and how his father had killed that cougar not long ago.
My name is Tike. What is your name? Tike didn't know if he would actually be calling her by that name but, he still wanted to know what it was. He had a feeling that he mind have to call her "beta." For the sole fact that his father had apparently made it very clear that his pack may only call him "alpha." Even then, Tike still wanted to know her name. He liked to know everything. He was not one that liked to be left out of loops.
The red fae lightened up her defensive stance. What was she doing? Tike squinted his eyes further, trying to figure out what she was doing. Her facial expressions gave nothing away. She appeared as though she wanted to talk to him or something. As soon as Tike's own stance began retreating to a more relaxed state, she lunged forward at him with teeth showing and claws lashed out. She had come dangerously close to the young adult, as Tike liked to refer to himself. It had caught him off guard and he ducked from her attack. He had learned a thing or two from wrestling with his siblings though, they were no where near as good of sparing partners as he thought that the beta would be. They had always just given up for the most part or, mother broke it up.
But, before Tike could even retaliate, the beta was off. She was running like a rabbit away from him. Oh no you don't. Tike wasn't about to let her attack him like that and then just run away. His legs began to run before he even realized that he had told them to do so. He was off, chasing her through the trees. Now,he was paying much more attention to where the trees actually were. Dodging them would be of most importance. The pup had size on the red fae but, she had the agility. He was sort of fast due to his long strides but, he had more body to carry than she did. This chase would be interesting for sure.
This was actually kind of fun! Shayde hadn’t let herself have any fun since...well, forever. She grew up taking care of her mother, until she was old enough to fend for herself. Her siblings had all died, therefore she’d never had anyone to play with as a pup. Though she frolicked on occasion with Amos, it was never this much fun. She was always trying to get rid of the clingy brute. With this brute, well, she was kind of playing with him. It would eventually become training, but until it became so, she would toy with the pup.
He had asked her for her name back there, but why would she grant him that? He was just a pup, and she was completely comfortable with him simply calling her by rank, as she was sure he knew of it. Maybe if this turned out well, she would answer his question as a reward. And it wasn’t like he needed to call out to her any time soon. He was right behind her nearly every step of the way.
Where she had agility, he had size. She would dart in and out of the trees swiftly, which would cause him to fall behind slightly. But once they hit a bit of a straight, he would catch up to her with his long strides. And once he did, she would dart in and out of trees again to shake him off. This is quite fun! she mused, glancing behind her. The pup was closing in on her. She darted past a tree, circled it entirely, and wound up running along the pup’s left side. She turned and snapped her jaw at him, close to his shoulder, before darting behind another tree.
The endorphin rush from the run pumped through the beta’s veins, pushing her faster. She was panting heavily, and from the sound behind her, so was the pup, but she kept going. Nearly there, she thought. Up ahead, the trees began to thin drastically. She slowed to a trot, barking quietly to the pup to get him to follow suit. “Keep quiet, Pup,” she ordered, falling into her role as beta. She slowed further, crouching down as she crept forward.
Throughout the chase, Shayde had been leading Tike more and more downwind before circling back upward. Now they were yards away from one of the small herds of elk that called the woods their home. The run may have helped with the pup’s anger—it had certainly helped hers—but she was beginning to grow quite hungry, and there was nothing more satisfying than sinking her teeth into the warm flesh of a creature far larger than herself. Tike was a fair bit bigger than she was, giving her a better chance of felling one of the fat elk in the clearing. It didn’t even matter to her if he’d ever hunted properly before. All that mattered was that he could lend a paw when she knocked the beast down.
Shayde turned to the pup with a wicked grin. “I hope you weren’t hoping for a spar, Pup.” She jerked her head towards the meat on legs up ahead, just in case he hadn’t already noticed them. “You ever hunted before? No, don’t answer that. It doesn’t matter. When I get one isolated, I want you to come up on its opposite side. Can you do that for me?” She eyed Tike warily, waiting for his response. She then gave him a curt nod. “Alright. Let’s do this.” Shayde crouched lower, clenching each of the necessary muscles. Then, like a released spring, the beta femme shot out of the trees, barreling towards the small herd of elk.

This was an exciting chase. Taq never played this way with him. It was always so easy when he had played with his siblings so, it was never any fun. But this, this was hard. The Descai beta kept darting around trees and waving through them so, Tike had to slow down to get his larger frame around the trees without running into them. But, whenever there was a straight stretch, Tike would get almost close enough to tackle her if he wanted to. But, that would end the fun. Though, he was never too far away from the Beta's rear. She was a few strides faster than he was but, he claimed it was because she had gotten a head start.
His chest pounded, his lungs pumped, his feet seemed to be moving of their own accord. Tike didn't have to concentrate on running or even concentrate on not stopping, no, his body did that for him. The only thing he needed to focus on was catching up to the red fae and maybe even getting in front of her. His breathing was fast and staring to get shallow. He hadn't ever had to run this far in his life! Let alone this fast. Soon, a little voice came into the back of Tike's mind, telling him that he was tired and that he needed to stop. He shook his head while he was running, trying to tell that voice to be quite. He would not stop running before she did. No, that would be failure! Failure was not an option. It never had been and it never will be. Tike had been that way since he had been born. He was determined and once his mind was on something, he would not stop until he had accomplished it. Of course, it hadn't always been with things like this. Usually it was just getting the good spot in the den for sleeping but, the mentality still applied here.
What?! What was she doing?! The beta ran around the tree and was now heading in the opposite direction. She snapped at his shoulder though, she didn't connect tooth with flesh, it still motivated him to keep going. It made him want to chase her more. He slammed on his brakes, turned around in a fast jog and then was off at a sprint again, chasing the beta.
The trees began to thin almost to nothing very quickly. Was this what she wanted to do? To get me to run out of the territory on my own?! That bitch..wait no.. she wants to hunt. Tike noticed the small herd of elk. They were downwind from them so, they wouldn't smell them. Tike would never have thought about that. This beta was smart. Which, was probably why she was a beta. He slammed on his brakes again only, this time it was to stop so he wouldn't slam right into her rear.
Instinctively, he kept quite. As a pup, it was natural to listen to and copy the movements of adults. He nodded to the fae after she had given him the instructions. He had never really been on a hunt before but, how hard could it be? The fae was going to do most of it. All he had to do was come on the opposite side of her and they would take one down together. He was ready for this. He was seven months old already! It was time to start hunting. He felt it within himself that he needed to start learning these things. He couldn't put his paw on what it was but, he knew that it was important. The look of the red wolf's face made him think that she didn't think that he could quite do it. Well, he would show her. He would show them all.
Like a bullet, the red fae was off. Tike waited as he had been instructed for her to pick one out. The elk went scrambling. Emerald eyes burned with intensity as he watched the beta select their victim. As soon as she had gotten it separated from the rest of the group, Tike sprang from his position and darted to her, using his remaining energy. Tike leaped onto the beast and latched onto the base of it's neck. He had no idea if he was doing was right or not but, it felt right. He felt that it was what he needed to to, it was instinctive. If it was wrong well, he would hear it from the beta later. There was nothing he could do about it now. He couldn't let it get away. If anything, what he had done slowed it down as it's warm blood ran over Tike's already bloody teeth.
There was nothing more thrilling than being on the hunt, no matter what anyone else says. Shayde could always cool her jets by prowling after large game, even if she didn’t end up with a kill at the end of the day. Her mind would be focused on the prey in her grasp, not on whatever trivial matters had angered her in the first place. And the prospect of sinking her teeth into a creature so terrified of her was a quick boost to her pride. There was nothing more thrilling than being on the hunt.
Almost as soon as the red femme had shot out from their hiding spot, the elk began scrambling, crying out in fear of the predator nipping their heels. At first, Shayde toyed with them, herding them in one direction before bringing them back once again. A few elk slipped away from the rest of the herd, darting off to safety. But Shayde wasn’t focused on them. There was a smaller cow near the middle of the group, probably a calf from this year’s crop. She was still large enough to be a challenge to take down, but as Shayde’s eyes darted to the trees, she smirked. She had back up this time around. No way was she going home without blood on her paws.
The beta lunged forward, scattering what remained of the herd. She pursued the small cow, pride swelling as it cried out in fear. Just as she was about to call for the pup to make his appearance, he was already there. The beast’s eyes went wide with fright and she tried to avoid the attack from the larger pup, but Shayde snapped at her legs, causing her to instead lean into it. Tike was on the elk’s back, clinging to her like a parasite. With his weight on her, the elk stumbled, crashing to the ground with a terrified cry. Shayde rushed forward, locking her jaws on the windpipe of the animal. Hot blood poured into her mouth as she dug her fangs in. This was the part that made it all worth it.
Slowly but surely the cow began to fade. Her heartbeat slowed, her legs ceased their wild dance, and her breaths were few and in between. Even after the life was gone from the elk, Shayde’s jaw remained locked. The last thing she wanted was for a few neurons to fire and cause the cow’s leg to twitch. If either of them got a hoof to the head, it would be all over. After a few minutes, she decided the cow was dead. She ripped out the flesh she was holding, bathing her paws in the blood of the fresh kill. She yipped to Tike, signaling the time to release his hold. When he did, she wagged her tail at him. “That was very good, Pup,” she praised him.
Shayde wasted no more time in diving into the meal. She ripped open the cow’s stomach, devouring the warm flesh that she uncovered. She wasn’t sure if the pup would hesitate or not—there was a certain order to these things, but he was young and may not have known better—but she gave him room to join her nonetheless. If the alpha was present, she probably would have kept him away from the kill. But it was just the two of them. She didn’t care much about taking turns or keeping watch. If any other wolves showed themselves, Shayde would deal with them. For now, the pup could eat in peace.

This was great! His first real hunt and it was going down. A tremendous amount of adrenaline rushed through Tike's veins. His heart pounded with excitement and his eyes were filled with anticipation. His weight had caused the cow to stumble and fall to the ground. Success! The hard part had been over, or at least that was what Tike thought. Killing the beast wouldn't be difficult but, catching it was the real battle. Most wolves didn't even have a 50 percent success rate because of how fast and how strong their prey was. But, look at what they had done! A seven month old pup and a smallish red fae, taking down a cow all by themselves.
Tike's excitement had forbade him to let go of the cow. He wanted to make sure that it stayed on the ground for the beta who was now choking the cow. Her breaths became slow and shallow, her legs became still, her spirit began to fade. It was really silly for her to think that she would have even had a chance! They were wolves! Wolves were superior.
Tike would not go hungry tonight. He hadn't eaten much of anything since he had gotten here to Acerbus. He had eaten some rabbits and some other small prey but, nothing that was this mouth-watering. This fresh elk. By now, he had completely forgotten what he had been doing earlier that day. All he was focused on now was this elk and the fae that he had helped catch it. She had made a small yip, telling him to let go. He released his death grip on the cow and smiled at the red beta. She seemed happy with him. He had done a good job. That was a first feeling. Usually, whenever he had done anything he got scolded for it. He could get used to this. Maybe he would stick around here in the area and speak to his father about joining the pack here. Thank you...Beta. It wasn't until then that he realized that she had not given him her name. He would probably ask her for it again later. He knew how to get things, he just couldn't push her about it. Tike was green about a lot of things but, he had spent seven months wording his way in and out of things and getting what he wanted from others. His tail wagged slightly back and forth, happy that he had done a good job. He was proud of himself.
Seeing that the beta had already dug into the cow's stomach. Tike thought for about a quarter of a second about whether he should eat with her or not. He remembered there being a bit of a pecking order with his siblings but, he wasn't sure if that applied here or not. She obviously left him room to eat so, he assumed that it was acceptable for him to eat with her. Maybe packs didn't have an order in which they ate.
He lay beside her and tore into the cow's stomach as well. He knew where the good spots were on a kill and he wasn't about to let her have it all.
It had been quite some time since Shayde last shared a meal with another wolf. She mostly hunted for an by herself, occasionally bringing an offering of a rabbit or two to the alpha. But enjoying a meal beside the one who helped take down the beast was gratifying, if not actually enjoyable. I may have to do this more often, the femme mused.
The pup had hesitated, as she had expected, before he too dove in to the meal. He was even giving her a rough time with getting all the good parts. His mother must have brought back game often, allowing him and his siblings to bicker over the savory bits. But Shayde was not his sister. When he took a piece she wanted, she grabbed a hold of it, tearing a piece off for herself. She wasn’t about to let him get all the good parts, even if they would help him grow a bit more. Not that he needs that at all, she grumbled to herself, eyeing the blood-covered pup. He was already taller than she was, and was fairly capable at knocking over large game on his own. She wouldn’t be shoulder-deep in the stomach of an elk if it weren’t for him. So no. She wasn’t going to relinquish the nutritious bits to him just because he was young.
Shayde eventually pulled back, licking her chops. Her stomach was full and humming blissfully. There was no reason for her to overeat when there was at least one hungry wolf waiting at the dens. She could always return without any scraps and make Angel hunt for herself, but... Ordering the white femme to watch over the den and not give her some kind of reward seemed cruel, even by Shayde’s standards. The beta looked to the pup, who was still gnawing away, before going to the cow’s back leg. She latched onto the limb and, with some difficulty, began to tug on it, swinging her head violently back and forth. The muscle and sinew eventually tore, leaving the limb completely limb. She worked some more until the limb was completely detached from the body. She did the same to the front limb, placing them off to the side.
The beta perched behind the pup, licking herself clean while she waited for him to finish his meal. When he had, she chuckled at him, rising to her feet. “You are a messy eater, aren’t you?” All of the gold decorating the pup’s face, even the rims of his ears, was stained with dark blood. She was probably no better than he, but given that he was a bit larger than she was, he’d had a more difficult time squeezing into the hole she’d made in the cow’s stomach. Shayde chuckled again, stepping forward. She licked the pup’s muzzle to her best ability. “Lean down so I can get your ears, Pup,” she muttered to him, hoping he would lean do as told.

As the alpha stalked back toward Acerbus, some of his anger dissipated with the distance. By the time he had reached the border of his pack's lands, he was all but back to normal, the rage having been let out, at least to some extent, on Haishin's alphess. Having properly dealt with his feelings, the brute ambled off toward his own territory, eager to step back into his role as alpha and see just how Shayde had managed the territory while he had been away. This would be a true test of her abilities, and he was curious to see just how she had handled Descai in the face of leadership. While he had quite a bit of confidence in the femme, he was not stupid enough to completely place his trust in any one wolf. Time had taught Vorilye not to trust anyone.
Even with the fact that Kallik had been telling the truth, he was still wary of her intentions. Vorilye knew that the femme planned to return to the pack, particularly now that it was painfully obvious she was no longer welcome in Haishin. The strain between the two packs could quite easily be manipulated to his advantage. With any luck, he would have possession of Haishin's territory within a few months. All he needed to do was get the rest of the pack behind him. Then, they could strike.
The sound of pleasant voices rung through the trees, and the brute's ears perked up. He could not recall the last time happiness had filled his pack lands; it was almost unwelcomed. The brute trotted up to catch the tail end of the conversation. Apparently, one of the twins (though he could not tell them apart) had made his way to the territory and had met up with Shayde. The smell of fresh blood made the brute's mouth water as he approached the pair, letting out a short bark to alert them of his arrival.
The sight he saw almost made the alpha laugh out loud. There, along with his beta, was one of the gold-rimmed pups with blood dripping from every segment of his face. It seemed that he was a tad bit hungry, because he obviously lacked the finesse that an older wolf would have had when consuming prey. What amused him the most was seeing Shayde acting kind. He had pretty much assumed that she was as much as a hard ass as him, and it was interesting to see a softer side of the femme. He smirked, staring at the two with an amused expression.
"Dinner is served, I suppose?" he quipped, wondering just where the rest of the pack was if Shayde was off in the woods frolicking with one of his pups. Had Kallik followed close behind, or had she finally seen how monsterous he could be and headed for the hills? It was partially his intent to instill a fear in the femme, but he truly had wanted revenge against the alphess for keeping his family away from him. Now, he had no idea where any of the rest of his litter was apart from this brute. Was this Tike, the one who had curtly introduced himself before, or the other brute who he could not remember his name? And what had happened to his little girl? Vorilye wanted a chance to build a relationship with his pups, but from the look on the multi-colored femme's face, he was not sure they would ever have the opportunity to start a relationship, let alone have a good one. He was in a tough position.
"Do you mind?" he inquired as he gestured toward the kill, though if he truly wanted the meat he would have indulged himself without asking. The remainder of the leg from the Haishin dens had fairly well satiated the brute. He was just interested to see if his son had any manners, and to see just how well Kallik had raised his boy. She better not have messed him up, or Vorilye was going to have a rough time shaping him into the wolf he should be.

Tike lavished as his face was surrounded my scrumptious meat. It was fresh and warm like the beast could have been alive. It was honestly the best thing he had ever eaten. Maybe it was the fact that he caught it for himself or, maybe it was the freshness or, maybe it was because he was actually sharing with someone that was not his sisters or his brother. They had each done equal work for this kill well, equal enough. He was used to having others bring him food. It was either his mother who hunted for them when she wasn't in the midst of one of her depressions or, it was his blind sister Kyra that hunted small meals that were really meant for his mother but, he happened to sneak a few bites now and then.
Some wolves may have considered it cold and heartless to take food from his depressed mother that his blind sister had gotten for them but, Tike didn't think about it that way. If he could get someone else to get food for him then, why should he hunt? Wasn't that why alpha's rarely hunted? They usually got a pack member to do it for them. He had learned that from watching Haishin from a far. He was never really part of that pack. He was just a loner staying there because of reasons that he thought he knew but, wasn't entirely sure. He had originally thought that his father had run his mother from Acerbus for being pregnant but, from what he knew of his father (which was very little), he was a kind wolf and maybe a little soft spoken. Like his mother, only worse. It seemed that every wolf that he met, aside from the beta, had no backbone. They were all mush. His father had spoken to him kindly and even dipped his head a little in respect when Tike had first met him. How could a wolf like that run another wolf out for being pregnant?
He had to admit though, the beta was a very interesting wolf. She was like something that he have never met before but, somehow got along with. She had even taken a bit of a piece that he had wanted from his mouth for herself. There was plenty for both of them even with Tike's bottomless pit of a stomach. This elk cow was more food than he had ever had in front of him, ever.
When the beta pulled back from the kill, Tike kept going. He could probably eat half of this elk if he wanted to. He hadn't eaten much of anything in a long time. He hadn't even eaten those rabbits that he slaughtered. It hadn't been until then that he realized how hungry he was. Then, out of the corner of his eye, he saw the beta ripping apart some of the legs. Two of them to be exact. What was she doing? It was weird. He didn't understand what she was doing. But, he ignored it and continued eating. He had no shame in eating while others watched him. That and he had never really been taught how to eat with others. It had always been like " here ya go..dig in." So, that is what Tike did. All he could do was do what he knew how to do.
He had soon finished and with blood dripping from all over his face, he turned to the beta who was standing behind him and sort of laughing at him in a way. He was sure that he looked funny from all the blood on his face. There was of course the blood from the rabbits' mixed with the blood of this delicious kill. I guess you could say that. His face was all covered in blood, of course he was a messy eater but, he had always been that way. He had never been one to eat slowly. Though, there always was that chance that he may throw up from eating so much so fast. But, he didn't feel like any of that was coming on.
Though, he was not expecting what happened next. The beta...actually cleaning his face? Well, no one had ever done that before. Not his brother, not his sisters, not even his own mother. But, this beta whom he didn't even know the name of was cleaning him. He had always thought that the ones that one was closest to would become their allies or..friends..if a wolf like Tike was allowed to have those. But, he barely knew this wolf and yet she was a better friend than he had ever had. What he knew in his world was slowly being turned upside down. He did do as he was told though and leaned down for her to get his ears. He wouldn't have been able to get them on his own either unless he stuck his head in that lake whose name he was already forgetting that he was supposed to meet his brother in a few days. I could get used to this. Life here didn't seem so bad. He didn't understand why his brother nor his sister wanted to stay here.
His attention was turned sharply to a woof coming from a wolf who was approaching. It had been his golden-pawed, older look-a-like. Tike was unsure about the feelings he should have. Should he be happy that his father was here? Should he be nervous that he had come here without real permission from him? Should he be frightened of standing before and alpha in his own lands? Well, he was a little bit of all three. Though, his nervousness and fright were kept on the down low. Why should he be afraid of his own father? He had seemed so kind. His father did look amused though.
He decided to not answer his first question, allowing it to pass. He thought it was one of those questions that you were not supposed to answer. But, where was mother? She had gone with him, had she not? He would ask him. Though, he didn't have much time to ask before his father asked permission to eat their kill. He needed to ask? Why? He was an alpha..he could just take...right? Though, he didn't really care. He had already eaten more than what he needed to survive. So, what was the burden to him if his father ate? Of course. He moved a little bit out of the way to give his father some room. One could say that Tike had learned a few manners from his stay in Haishin. One of those being to not stand over wolves while they were eating, especially when they were higher ranked. But, he did really want to ask his father where his mother was. Do you happen to know where my mother is? The question was meant to be casual. He didn't care about anyone..or anything anymore, remember? He was a stone. If his father didn't know..he didn't know and Tike would drop it.
((OOC: I was so not expecting vor to drop in LOL))
The Descai beta could hardly believe what she was doing. She hardly knew this pup and yet here she was, washing his face as if she was his mother. Maybe it was the fact that she felt a little empathetic towards the pup. She had been about his age when she and her own mother separated, though it was her own decision to do so. She remembered those first few days of being frightened of just about everything in the dark. Other wolves were mean to her, though she had it coming when she stole their food.
Or maybe her behavior was a sort of motherly instinct. This pup’s mother was at the den site as they stood there, snuggled close to some other brute. What would the pup say if he knew this? What were his feelings towards his father? Shayde had yet to hear the entire story from start to finish, but she felt it wasn’t her place to pry into the pup’s life. If he wished to tell her at any given point, she would listen.
The pup eventually leaned down for her to clean his ears. Obedient, Shayde mused, dragging her tongue along his bloodied gold fur. Alpha should definitely keep him around. If all of the pack members were as obedient as Tike was, Shayde would enjoy living in Acerbus just a little bit more. Which, for some odd reason, brought her thoughts back to the pretty femme, Tike’s mother. A low growl rumbled in the beta’s throat. There was something about the other femme that simply rubbed Shayde the wrong way. Was it because she had caused Alpha all sorts of problems or was it something bigger? Shayde didn’t know, and it drove her nuts.
Before she could take her anger out on the pup’s beautiful ears, Shayde stepped back. She smiled at him, pleased to see his face mostly void of blood—some of it would require a longer cleansing session—and she was about to say something to him when a strong scent filled her nostrils. Where she should have grown uneasy, the femme began to wag her tail gently. It was a scent she knew well, one she hadn’t smelled so strong in some time. Her eyes scanned the trees, narrowing slightly when she spotted him.
The alpha brute had finally returned.
Shayde greeted her alpha with a little yip and dip of her head. At his quip, she smiled wryly. “Yeah, something like that.” A strong urge to rub against the brute slammed full force into the beta. She took a hesitant step forward before forcing herself to stop. She wasn’t a particularly affectionate femme, nor did she believe the alpha would appreciate such a thing. But she had honestly missed him. So much had happened in his absence, events she felt she handled poorly. Her eyes darted to the pup at her side before darting back to the alpha. Would he be angered by his presence? No, he didn’t seem to be. If anything, he was amused. By what, Shayde didn’t dare ask.
The alpha brute then asked politely if he could feast. Shayde tilted her head to one side, confused. “These are still your lands, Alpha,” she stated, stepping aside. “All kills made within your land are yours.” Even Tike agreed, stepping aside further to allow the older brute access to the carcass. There was a brief silence before the pup spoke up again, this time asking the brute where the pretty femme was. Shayde growled unconsciously, silencing herself once she caught on. The question was not for her, so she turned away, glaring at nothing in particular.
words:: Six-Hundred and Twenty-One muse:: Kind of off... tags::Tike, and Vorilye mood:: Motherly, pleased alpha has returned ooc:: Me neither XD But now he's seen Shayde's rare, softer side <3
With the approval of both hunters, though it would not have mattered whether they gave approval or not, the alpha brute dipped his maw to the warm, bloodied kill. He did not mind getting third taste of the meat, mostly because his stomach was still mostly full. However, this kill had a certain... zest that the meat in Kamari had lacked. It was still warm. Vorilye could almost imagine its heart still beating as he lapped up the hot, iron-filled liquid. He managed to get very little on his golden fur, an indication that he had long since perfected his dinner manners. A small smirk played on his lips as he realized that both his son and his beta were watching while he dined on their kill. It was great to be the alpha some days, particularly when others catered to your whims. However, it was not all fun and games.
When the pup, whichever one he was, inquired about Kallik, Vorilye finally raised his muzzle from the bloody carcass. His tongue swiped across his lips, ridding them of the last droplets of blood before he answered his smaller clone. "She was back in Kamari before I came. I am not quite sure where she had gone from there," he answered the pup truthfully, though he conveniently omitted that he had left the pup's mother in a hostile den of a pack whose alphess he had just, with any luck, permanently blinded. He did not believe Haishin would be giving them much trouble from this point out. The brute was smart enough to know when to walk away from a fight; next time, he would bring others with him, and Haishin would surely fall.
The alpha brute's gaze turned to land on Shayde, and a curt nod fell in her direction. Vorilye was pleased with her, that much was evident. Though he did not display his satisfaction through physical affection like some softer alphas might, the brute dipped his head ever so slightly in a sign of respect to his second-in-command. "I trust that everything is in order here?" he inquired with a quiet tone. It carried that dangerous edge that his voice always seemed to have when handling business, but he was not sure that his son would catch the change in mood since he had only briefly been introduced to his father. In time, the brute would learn that his father was not the nicest wolf on the planet. In fact, Vorilye was eager to introduce his son to the world of Descai, where renegades found refuge and power was the ultimate goal. Perhaps the young black and gold brute would still be malleable to his whim. Vorilye could certainly use another loyal pack member, and he sure as hell did not trust the brute's mother any further than he could throw her.
While Kallik clearly had been telling the truth about the pups being his, Vorilye still did not place the utmost trust in her. He had made the mistake before, and he would not stoop to trusting another wolf so quickly again. Even though this brute was his son, he had no birthright here. The pup would have to step up and prove himself just like every other wolf who dared set foot on Descai's territory. Lineage did not a good pack member make. That was heart, strength, and dedication. His mother had clearly lacked the strong tie to the pack that Vorilye truly sought in a wolf.
Now Shayde, she was a wolf to be admired. The femme put up with his haphazard, moody personality and still rose to meet his expectations. Vorilye never voiced his true opinions of the femme, but in all honesty he held some admiration for her. Most females would not dare to put themselves in close proximity to Vorilye unless they had an ulterior motive. Shayde had actively distanced herself from the alpha brute, yet when he called upon her to take responsibility and be a leader for the pack, she rose to the opportunity. She had since exceeded what he initially expected from her. The territory was not in shambles, his son was in one piece, and although the femme seemed on edge, Descai was ultimately in the condition he had left it.
"Shayde, we must talk soon," he instructed the femme gruffly, his golden eyes falling up her smaller body. Yet another uncomfortable smile settled on his lips; they had much to discuss. He would not be able to press on without her, and luckily Shayde had not yet realized just how pivotal her allegiance to Descai was for the alpha. Vorilye placed much of his confidence in her, whereas other wolves he merely tolerated their presence. He needed a pack full of strong, able-bodied wolves, and they were going to build up Descai so that the other packs would ultimately fall.

Empathy was something that Tike had never felt. He didn't know how to feel it. No one had ever really..felt bad for him or done such a nice thing for him. Did the beta feel bad for him? He had screamed to the heavens and cried on the ground in front of her. He personally wouldn't feel bad for a wolf that had done the same thing. Tike had never expected anyone to feel bad for him. No, the time for empathy would have been months ago when he actually wanted it.
Besides, he didn't mind having such a motherly behavior being done for him. As far as Tike was concerned, Kallik didn't want him anymore. Why would she? Her favorite son had left, her two daughters were killed, her third daughter..he had no idea where Kyra was and frankly, Tike didn't care. But, back to the point. He was certain that Kallik had never really cared for him. She wanted the others and even though, he had obeyed her and came here, he had stuck with her when everyone else left, she still didn't see him. She didn't see who he really was. She didn't see his inner character that had been very skewed by her treatment of him. Did she do it on purpose? Tike didn't know. But, his image of a mother was probably very off from what it could have been. He had tried to do everything right..to make her proud of him..but he still wasn't good enough for her.
After his face had been basically been cleaned, he turned his attention to his father. The beta seemed to be just as confused as he had been with his fathers' question. So, it was weird. Watching a wolf eat after he had his fill, wasn't all that difficult. It only made him realize what juicy pieces he had missed. When Vorilye lifted his head from the kill and answered his question. Tike nodded absentmindedly as he accepted that answer. It sounded sincere and that was all he needed. Vorilye had known where his mother was and he told him. That was good enough.
After that, Tike's mind was elsewhere. The adults were talking about things that he had little interest in. Just stuff about the pack and how it had been since his fathers' absence. Things that Tike didn't have anything to say about. What could he say? How he had been there while Kallik had been snuggling up against a strange white brute? How they looked like mates? How she had apparently moved on and no longer cared for her current pups who had not yet reached one year old yet? How that white male was making eyes at her? How they were speaking softly to each other like lovers? No. They wouldn't care about that. Tike himself shouldn't care about that. Why should he care about her? She obviously no longer cared for him..if she had even cared for him in the first place which, was questionable. She seemed to had cared for him for a short time right after his sisters had been killed. But, that had gone away.
Tike had gotten lost in his own thought. If someone had asked him a question, he didn't hear it. His brain had completely taken over and was not allowing his eyes to see what they were looking at or his ears hear what they were hearing. It was a weird thing that happened to Tike from time to time.
