It seemed as though this little lake in the middle of the forest had become the brothers' rendezvous point. They had planned to meet here after only talking for a few moments. Vorilye had specifically tole him to stay with someone but, that was such a hard thing to do. He and his brother weren't really on best terms all the time and that white female was really annoying. Like, really annoying. So, he tried to stay with her the least. Sometimes he followed Vorilye around for a half-hour or so but, then he'd want to do something else. Shayde wasn't too bad to hang around but, he couldn't always find her. Moral of the story is that Tike wasn't so good at obeying that rule. But, he doubted that his father knew that. Tike followed it sometimes, it wasn't like he completely disregarded it but he didn't want to go out of his way to follow someone around.
Night time had set in on the island and the moon was high in the sky. They had chosen night time for whatever reason. Tike loved night time, it was cold and comfortable and it was easy to hide his black pelt.
When he had arrived at the little lake which he had heard had a lake monster inside of it, he found his brother sitting and waiting for his arrivale. He hadn't completely thought the lake monster was fake but he also didn't believe it. Tike wagged his tail slowly and smiled a little at his brother. He didn't completely hate his brother. He didn't hate his brother at all. He was just upset that everyone seemed to like him better. It wasn't a fair world. Hi, Taqqiq. It seemed as though they had grown a part recently and Tike didn't feel right about using a nickname. Recently, Tike didn't feel close to anyone. They were all drifting away from him slowly. He hadn't heard anything about Kallik or Kyra recently so, they were drifting from his mind as well. The mood shone over the water and providing some dim light for them.
Tike sat down next to his brother but, couldn't look him in the face. He kept his gaze on the ground or on the water beside them. A piece of Tike wanted to jump in the water just to see if there really was a monster. The water looked very deep, like there was no bottom to it and it emptied at the bottom of the globe. Hey Taqqiq? Wanna jump in the water? He asked his brother, trying to lighten the mood while silently regretting coming to this meeting. Every time they met, it seemed to get more awkward and more distant. He didn't like doing this slowly. He would have rather just ripped the band-aid off quickly and gotten it over with. But, Taq seemed to be trying to hold on to something that was quickly disappearing from his grasp. It was a sad thing but, there wasn't much either brother could do to stop it.
Night had fallen over Descai. It was finally time for the alphess to exact her revenge.
After Vorilye had left her laying with a bloody eye on the floor of her dens, Akihra was left alone once more as Elu vanished without ever returning. She was sick and tired of the misery that the Descai Alpha caused her. She could no longer see out of her bloodied eye, and the pain was excruciating. Yet she somehow dragged herself off the floor and pressed on. She had to keep her daughter safe by any means, and if that meant throwing herself against the vicious pack's alpha to protect Sariya, then that was exactly what she would do.
Luckily, the peppered alphess blended in well with the surroundings, particularly with the way the moonlight reflected off the water's surface. Akihra stalked past scent marker after scent marker, reminding her that she was deep in the pack's territory. It did not matter. The alpha's scent trail led back here, and she was going to take care of him once and for all. No longer would the packs of Anikira suffer at Vorilye's paws. He would be eradicated, and she would become a legend who was spoken of in the lore of Anikira. She was destined for greatness, and this was the first step to bringing Haishin back from the dead.
The femme heard voices through the brush, but she pushed them aside as the strong scent of the alpha surrounded her. Akihra smirked, confident that this would be the last thing the alpha ever did. The voice she heard was from closer to the water front, but the wolf she was more focused on was the giant black and gold brute a merely ten paces away who was staring down toward the lake with an interesting look. Akihra sunk back into the brush as she heard the tail end of the wolf's invitation for the alpha to join him. She could strike soon, but he needed to be closer.
Akihra would only have one shot at it. If she missed, Vorilye would turn on her and end her life in an instant. If he did not finish the job, surely whatever wolf was down at the water's edge would come up to lend him aid. Akihra knew that Vorilye did not allow loners in his territory, so it was bound to be a member of his pack down at the lake. As she watched the large figure move closer toward her, she crouched back on her haunches, poised to strike.
As Vorilye was a mere stride away from her and had not noticed her location, the alphess let a snarl rip as she launched herself onto the brute's neck. Her sharp fangs tore viciously into his flesh, the feeling of his hot blood rushind down her muzzle and neck only fueling her desire for the kill. She ripped and strained, tearing a large chunk of the brute's throat out and watching as he fell, gasping at the last strands of life, before her. The job was done. Her pack was no longer in danger. She would need to take off in order to avoid the brute whose voice she heard down at the lake. After all, her snarl had not been a quiet one; he would be up to investigate shortly.
The alphess looked down one last time at the brute whose life had just fallen by her paws. It was only then that she noticed the brute's size, and then his eyes. Those bright green eyes... Akihra gasped. This wasn't Vorilye at all... This is one of the boys, she realized with a sudden start, her mind whirling to life as she contemplated the consequences of this action. This would start a full-out war on her pack. Vorilye would stop at nothing to get revenge for the death of his son. She would die, and so would her daughter. Sariya, she thought with pain, her eyes squeezing shut as she backed into the brush.
She could not allow Vorilye to go after Sariya. Akihra would have to stay, and she would have to face the alpha brute. One would emerge victorious, and the other would fall. It was the only way to safe her daughter from an eminent death...
Things had fallen into a sort of routine as the days went on. Shayde found herself in the company of Vorilye’s boys on more than one occasion, though it seemed Tike was the one more likely to stay by her side. Ever since the day they’d met, she and Taqqiq had always been on hot stones. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that Shayde harbored such strong feelings towards his mother (and she got the sense he took after her more than his father). Though it could also have had something to do with the fact that the russet femme had thrown herself off of a cliff rather recently. The state of the arctic brute upon returning from the ridge that day was all but frightening. He’d been quiet before, yes, but now it was eerily so. The beta found herself steering clear of him at all costs, worried she might catch whatever was ailing his mind.
Shayde’s thoughts quickly turned to Vorilye. Upon returning with the arctic brute, he’d said nothing to her other than muttering that the russet femme had died. She was unaware if he had told his sons about their mother’s death, and she certainly wasn’t about to be the one to do so. That was a family matter. None of her business. So, despite the fact that both boys had constantly been looking for their mother, Shayde had feigned knowledge. When asked, Amyntas merely said she hadn’t spoken to him since he joined the pack and that he would search for her in a few days if she hadn’t returned.
But Vorilye had hardly seemed fazed by her death, besides the fact that he may or may not have told his sons of the incident yet. He went about acting as is nothing at all had happened, barking at those who were in his favorite spot in the dens or simply barking at others simply because they were near. She was pleased that she was rarely the victim of his ill-manners, though she received a stern glance once in a while. But those hardly made an impression on her at all. She’d merely roll her eyes at him and either get out of his way or do whatever is he wanted her to do.
As usual, his orders for her were to patrol the woods.
The beta wondered, however briefly, if the brute simply had her patrol to get her out of his hair. It wasn’t like she was Angel (whom was always pestering him), and nor was she Amyntas (whom had become an emotionless mass of muscle). She was Shayde, his beta. He was supposed to depend on her! Patrolling the territory was something one of the lower rank members should be off doing. But despite her internal grumbling, she did as he asked without a verbal fuss. There was a strong desire in her heart to please Vorilye, far more so than she’d ever felt toward another wolf in some time.
The woods were as dark as the night around them, the moon offering little light through the thick trees. Heaving a sigh, Shayde headed back around towards the lake. Once she ventured that way, she would hit the ridge (she hadn’t gone there since Kallik’s demise), and then she would return to the dens. It was hardly a thorough patrol, but it would be enough to satisfy the black and gold brute waiting for a report. Things had been quiet lately; the last wolf to venture into the territory unannounced was either Amyntas or that strange femme that had washed up on shore. And Vorilye had gone around the very next day strengthening his scent markers. There wasn’t a wolf fool enough to simply wander into his lands knowing a pack lay in wait.
Just before she reached a point where she could see the lake, a loud snarl rang out. Ears swiveled towards the sound, and every muscle in her lithe form tensed. Perhaps I was wrong... Shayde bounded forward noiselessly, coming to a stop as she heard the desperate cry of one of the pups. She watched in horror as a peppered femme tore into the neck of one of Vorilye’s sons. Her heart clenched as she believed it was Tike, but she noticed he was standing close to the lake, looking petrified. As the peppered femme continued her assault—no doubt ending poor Taqqiq’s life—Shayde threw her head back, loosing a call to Vorilye. She could hardly handle the situation on her own, and she needed to stay and protect Tike.
But just as her call ended, the peppered femme began retreating into the brush. Was she not going to kill Tike? Did she think she could just wander into these lands, kill Vorilye’s son, and then just leave? The beta femme loosed a challenging snarl as she sprang forward, just off to the femme’s left side. She dipped her head low, tail and fur bristled into fine points. She pulled her lips back over her fangs as she slowly made her way in front of Tike, determined to protect him should the femme change her mind about attacking him. Shayde’s eyes flicked to the lifeless body of the other pup before locking onto the peppered femme’s...single eye. The other had been completely torn through. There was no possible way the femme could see out of that gruesome eye. Crippled or not, the stranger had committed a terrible crime. Shayde advanced slowly, not bothering to speak a word to the larger femme. The beta would not allow this stranger to attempt to bargain for her life. Death was this femme’s only option.

Vorilye could not catch a break. He had given Shayde one order, and that was to patrol the territory. He could not trust most of the wolves in his pack with such a task; at least, he did not know them well enough to trust them to do a good job. With all the intruders that seemed to find their way into Descai's territory, it was a wonder that their pack had any safety at all. He knew that Shayde would follow through with his orders and not get distracted.
Yet as soon as he had settled down to rest for a while, the brute was called away from the dens by a frantic howl from Shayde. Vorilye was immediately concerned, as he knew his beta would never disturb him without reason. It was for that exact reason that the brute crossed his territory quicker than he had ever done before. Drarynough, where he had last left his sons, was the origin of the call. That, in itself, doubled the speed the alpha traveled. He had to make sure that everything was alright, and quickly. If not, there was the distinct possibility that he would lose his mind.
As the brute approached, he watche Shayde disappear into the brush, a snarl fresh from her lips. It was then that the scent of blood rushed into the brute's nostrils, and he dared to look down. The instantaneous rage that filled Vorilye's heart was greater than anything he ever experienced. It was worse than when Ithilwen betrayed him, worse than when Arwen took the pack that was rightfully his, and much worse than when Akihra came to him and flaunted his family in his face. Nothing could audibly express the feeling to pure hatred that coursed through the alpha brute's veins. The pure strength and adrenaline that Vorilye felt multiplied tenfold as the throatless body of Taqqiq laid at his feet.
Vorilye's head snapped up robotically, his eyes locking with the terrified eyes of Akihra who had Shayde rearing to fight her. He watched with pure contentment as, instead of going after the femme, Shayde placed herself between Akihra and Tike. The sheer appreciation he felt toward his beta was dwarfed by the fury that almost visibly encircled his head. One of his sons was dead, and Akihra was going to pay with her life this time.
The brute had let her off too easy the last time. He could have easily taken her and the other brute, particularly if Kallik had jumped in to help. But that bitch was dead, along with his son. He was down to two children, though only one that he knew was alive. This femme was responsible for it all. Had she not meddled, and if she had not come here, Taqqiq would still be alive. She was a thorn in the side of Descai's existence. Haishin would exist no longer.
"You thought this was a good idea?" he asked calmly, the even tone of the brute's voice even more frightening than his snarls and growls. There was a sick amusment in watching the femme squirm and back further into the brush. But yet he pressed forward, driving her toward the water's edge as her rear paws were engulfed in sandy loam and immersed roots. It was amusing to watch a wolf so desperate to get away from him. Her eye was mutilated by his last strike, and it was a pity he had not done more damage before his exit.
The pure derision in the brute's golden eyes was obvious. He was lost to the world, and nothing would make this right until the blood of this femme was spilled for the world to enjoy. Vorilye sought nothing other than revenge. He would finally take the life that had caused the death of so many others. Akihra was to blame for both his daughters' deaths, as well as Kallik's and now Taqqiq's. His son had been the first death by her own paws, and now Vorilye would end everything for her. She would not have the opportunity to do anything to harm anyone else's family ever again.
"You think you can hide from me, yet there is nowhere left to hide. Haishin will be dead. I will find every wolf there and slaughter them with my fangs," he hissed, watched Akihra quake, yet sneering as she attempted to compose herself but still said nothing. The fear was plain in her eyes, and Vorilye wanted her to suffer. He wanted her to feel every last inch of her life slipping away as she clawed to keep hold of reality. She would bleed out slowly, and then her body would be fed to the lake. They would find use of her pointless meat. Vorilye had no use for traitorous, murderous femmes such as Akihra in his lands. She was not worthy of a proper send-off. She was no better than the fly larva that the minnows fed on in the mornings.
"Hope you enjoyed what little time you had." The cool, even words slipped past the brute's lips as he lunged, feeling a sick sense of satisfaction as his claws ripped through her pelt. Her cries for mercy fell on deaf ears as the peppered fur of the eastern timber wolf's back turned crimson. Vorilye left no area untouched. Buried deep in the brush, away from the sight of both Shayde and Tike, the alpha took his last twisted satisfaction. As Akihra cried for him to just kill her, he tore her apart, the vicious end by rape releasing some of the pent up destruction he felt. Once he was finished with her body, he discarded her, tossing the tattered meat lump out into the water and watching as a swarm of fish converged upon it. The meat disappeared quickly from her bones, and areas of Akihra's skeleton appeared as they feasted upon the flesh of the fallen alphess.
The Haishin Pack was no more.

Vorilye || Mackenzie Valley Brute || Eight Years Old
Taqqiq hadn't shown any kind of a sign that he wanted to jump into the water with him. He hadn't shown any kind of emotion at all which was strange for him. Taq was always the emotional one droning on and on about the tiniest little things that shouldn't even matter. The two began walking, more towards the bush. They had silently decided that this meeting was good for neither of them and that they needed to grow up and go their separate ways. Twins had an odd way of communicating like that. Tike could only do that with his brother though. He often tried to communicate without words but, they seldom understood him. It was one thing that Tike loved about his brother. They were connected to one another. They were like two different sides of the same spirit in separate bodies.
Then, a loud snarl ripped through the area and Akihra jumped out with blood lust in her eyes. Tike couldn't help but watched, stunned, as Akihra ripped through his brother's throat. TAQ! Tike screamed in horror of what had just happened. His sister's deaths had been somewhat hidden and he couldn't see it all that well. But this, this was up close and personal. It was then that something changed in Akihra's eyes. She realized something but, he didn't know what it was. Tike snarled and showed his teeth to her even though his eyes were full of terror. He was sure that the peppered alphess who had kept himself and his brother in her territory for most of his life so far to kill him. But for what purpose? Did she just get off on killing random wolves? Tike wasn't about to go down without a fight. He had been through hell and back and he was not about to just lay on his back and let her finish him.
Shayde then came out of no where. Tike was relieved that she had come but, most of his attention was still on the fae whom he was sure was going to kill him. The beta then stepped in front of him, protecting him. That was new. Tike had never had anyone actually deliberately protect him. Tike stepped out from behind her, slightly. He didn't want to seem helpless and feeble but, he also wanted the protection that she offered for him. He wanted to live. He wanted to live badly.
Vorilye then appeared and began taunting the peppered female who began to slowly back away in petrified fear. Tike was..impressed and proud to be the son of a wolf like that. He wanted to be like that. He had never felt like that about Kallik but, he felt that way about Vorilye. Something about his father seemed more his speed. Something about him attracted Tike to him rather than to Kallik whom he hadn't seen or heard anything of. It would be heartbreaking to tell her that her precious, prized son had been killed. Or, maybe it wouldn't be so heartbreaking.
Akihra's death had been from Tike's sight. He could hear her screams and her pleads to die but, he couldn't see anything. As the killing went on, Tike relaxed a bit by Shayde's side, waiting for the two of them to come tumbling out back into view. But, there was a moment of almost silence but not silence. What is he doing to her? Tike wondered as he tilted his head slightly as he wondered what was going on. What had really been going on was Akihra's rape but Tike didn't understand what that was or the sound that had occurred. There was then the sound of something slipping into the water. He could only assume that it was Akihra's body. Her life was over and as it should be. She had taken the life of his brother with her own claws and this was what she deserved.
Tike slowly walked over to his brother's lifeless body and nudged his muzzle with his nose. He knew that he was gone and never coming back but it made him feel better to think that he might. I'm sorry..I never meant this...I would take back everything that I thought about you and said about you to have you back. Forgive me. Tike muttered so quietly that he would be shocked if either Shayde or Vorilye (if he had returned yet) heard it. It was his final words to his brother before Tike let him go. His death had been avenged by Akihra's death and now he could rest in peace. Tike removed himself from his brother's body and walked back to where he had been moments ago to wait for what to do next.
Shayde waited, muscles tense for the peppered femme to make her move. Even if she were to be injured in the process, she would not allow the femme to take Vorilye’s only child from him. A threatening, almost challenging growl ripped from her throat. She didn’t know much about the alpha brute, but she had seen the way he looked at Tike in the clearing that day. It was normally hidden deep, but Vorilye truly loved his sons. Shayde didn’t want to see that side of him shoved even further away from her grasp. She didn’t want to see him become more cynical and darker than he already was.
To the beta’s horror, Tike began to step out from behind her. She turned a warning snarl to him, side-stepping to put herself between the two once again. Her eyes locked with his, understanding the fear swimming in those emeralds. “Don’t move,” she growled, turning her fierce gaze back on Akihra. The peppered femme had still yet to show any interest in Tike’s life, but Shayde wasn’t about to let her guard down. She snarled threateningly again, hoping Vorilye would show up and handle the situation.
And as if answering her silent thought, he appeared.
The icy tone of his voice sent shivers down Shayde’s spine, nearly eradicating any threatening presence she may have held in that situation. Though compared to the alpha brute’s presence in that little clearing, hers was hardly a blip on the peppered femme’s radar, given the amount of terror rolling off of her. Vorilye slowly advanced on the femme, driving her closer and closer to the water. Shayde nudged Tike slightly, trying to get him to get out of the way more. With Vorilye handling the situation with the intruding femme, she could focus solely on him. With a final glance in Vorilye’s direction—his expression told her he wasn’t grasping reality at the moment—she turned to Tike, giving him a quick once over for injuries. “You’re not hurt, are you? Did she get you anywhere?”
This motherly behavior of hers was really beginning to startle her when it reared up its head. She was pretty good at keeping it down around the others at the dens, but once she was alone with the pups, she turned into something of a surrogate mother, caring for them more than her mother had ever cared for her. She wouldn’t sleep at night without knowing their stomachs were full or that they were warm within the dens. She didn’t even like letting them out of her sight during the day, but the two were practically grown, not to mention inseparable. She hadn’t thought any evil would find them in the confines of the pack land, or if they were together like this. It pained her to see she’d been wrong.
But scolding herself wasn’t going to do anything. And even before she could, a frantic cry tore her from Tike’s examination. She turned just in time to see Vorilye and the peppered femme disappear behind the brush, the femme’s desperate cries echoing in the silent night. Shayde took a few urgent steps forward, as if to lend the alpha a set of fangs, but she stopped short and merely fell still. The sounds ripping through the night were hardly that of a typical murder, given the amount of screaming the peppered femme was doing. Shayde tilted her head to one side, waiting for the screaming to stop short as Vorilye ripped out her throat, or for him to simply chase her out of his territory as broken as he could manage. A shiver raced down the beta’s spine, causing all the fur along it to rise. As broken as he could manage was to the point of no return. Shayde knew in that instant that Vorilye had no plans to keep that femme alive.
The peppered femme’s screams of agony continued, leaving a cold feeling in the beta’s blood. She had a feeling she knew exactly what Vorilye was doing to her, but he was so quiet during it all that she could only truly guess. Only once or twice did he growl or snarl. Or perhaps his noises were just drown out by his victims cries. Regardless of what was happening out of sight, Shayde turned away, returning to Tike’s side. He was by Taqqiq’s body, nuzzling the lifeless form. She hadn’t heard his words, but she knew he was saying his goodbye. An uncomfortable feeling settled in Shayde’s stomach. She’d never known her own siblings, at least not nearly as long as Tike had known his brother. Just as it had been with Vorilye and Tike’s father-son bonding, this sibling loss was something that Shayde didn’t truly understand. She felt as if she shouldn’t be standing there, watching the agony.
It was only as she watched Tike that she slowly began to realize that the night had fallen silent once again. Shayde turned back, watching as Vorilye emerged from the brush. His appearance reminded her of Tike’s face after feeding off the cow-elk, though Tike could never hold the amount of malice still evident in the alpha brute’s gaze. Shayde found herself locked in place as the brute ventured forth, watching his every movement like a moth drawn to a flame. She had always found herself slightly attracted to this brute—he was quite a fine specimen—but had always refused to admit it. But now, seeing and hearing the sheer power in his paws, she simply couldn’t deny it. He was more than capable of handling just about anything with his brute force, something most would have to actually break a sweat to do. If another male of the same stature had been standing beside him in that moment, Shayde doubted any would notice the others presence. Vorilye held himself in a way that dominated attention, in a positive and negative way simultaneously.
And for some odd reason, Shayde wanted that dominate, undivided attention turned on to her.

Finally, the two greatest inconveniences in Vorilye's life were dead. Kallik was gone by her own paw, and Akihra was gone by his. Things were in a position to be looking up, particularly since they could now scout out Akihra's territory and deem whether or not it was going to be a useful addition to Descai's lands. The expansion of the pack's lands would be beneficial with the coming weather, particularly because winter was the most scarce hunting season in Acerbus. They would have access to the better prey of Kamari, and they would utilize it to expand the pack to even greater numbers.
As the alpha brute emerged from the brush, he spied a thoroughly shaken Tike being looked over by Shayde frantically. A small smirk crossed the brute's face as he watched Shayde act more motherly toward Tike than he had ever seen Kallik. His beta was remarkable in some ways, particularly because it was rare that he saw her this way. Vorilye stalked toward the two before realizing that all around his muzzle and down his throat was stained in Akihra's blood. Although it was not highly visible on his ebony fur, he dipped to the water to submerge his face and neck before lifting quickly and shaking the liquid from his fur. He watched as a barrage of dull red liquid flung in every direction, coating some of the plants and dirt in the evidence of the alpha's murder.
It felt good to rid himself of the pestering alphess. He would no longer have to worry about her meddling in his affairs, and that was one less pack to deal with when the time came. Vorilye would have everything, and he would not let anyone stand in his way. He glanced up at Tike and sighed. Taqqiq had lived such a short life, and he was truly sorry to see such a thing happen, particularly when he had promised them that nothing would happen on his watch. The alpha brute had failed his son; he now only had one son, and perhaps a daughter, floating around somewhere on the continent. Tike was the pup who had developed a closer bond with him, but it still hurt to see his son, wasted by such a pointless piece of life as Akihra.
Next on his agenda was hunting down that little brute who had addressed him as a loner in Akihra's den. Vorilye snorted at the thought. Anyone who looked at him would be foolish to believe that, with the way he held himself, he was inferior to any pack member. He was an impeccable specimen, and he would have been able to take both Akihra and that foolish little wolf who interfered the first time without a problem. But now he had the opportunity to handle them separately, and he would make sure the brute suffered just as much as his alphess when he died. Anyone who supported Akihra was an enemy to Descai.
"Tike, you need to go back to the dens," he pressed his son gently, walking up to the brute and nuzzling the fur of his neck. Vorilye did not want anything else to happen to his son, and the dens were possibly the safest place in Acerbus, particularly since there were other wolves milling around the mines. He wanted someone to have an eye on Tike at all times. The alpha would not risk losing his final son; he had suffered enough.
"Shayde, we need to speak," the brute gruffly addressed his beta, looking over her with interest as her back was turned to him. A smirk slid across his face as he watched her small body; Vorilye was thoroughly intrigued by the femme. Maybe his little escapade with Akihra had done more for him than his celibate phase, but now he was wanting more...

Shayde's growl was almost threatening and the amount of energy she was putting into protecting him was flattering. She was acting more motherly than Kallik had ever done for him. She always spent her time with Taq or Kyra and left himself and his eldest sisters to basically fend for themselves. Which was fine. He didn't need her to love him.
Her snarl to him was a warning that he heeded well. He understood her and wasn't about to run out and risk his own life for no reason. He didn't try again to step out. Something about the small red fae made Tike listen to whatever she told him to do. Maybe it was what had happened with that elk-cow and the rabbit incident that made him respect her. He had far more respect for Shayde than he did his own mother and just about every other wolf that he met.
He could see that Shayde wasn't going to let Akihra hurt him and he felt a bit safer though still petrified. When she nudged him, he moved out of the way, happy to take any chance to get away from this whole situation. With Vorilye taking care of this whole situation, Tike tried to forget what was going on and just have a conversation with Shayde. No, She didn't get me. I'm fine. Tike said to her, trying to be reassuring because she sounded a trifle worried about him. Tike didn't want her to feel worried. She was becoming more of a mother to him than Kallik ever had been. He would show his own mother how good of a son he could be and then she would regret treating him the way that she did. Not that Tike wanting to use Shayde in that way it was just that she was getting caught in the middle of something so much deeper than some tension between himself and his mother.
When Vorilye had finally emerged from the brush, his face was covered in Akihra's blood. It smelled, weird. He wasn't used to smelling the blood of another wolf. He had smelled Taq's blood which had also been weird. He wondered if it would be something that he would ever get used to. His father went over to the water and cleaned off his face as if all he had done was hunt. Shayde however watched his every move like a hawk.
Vorilye then nudged him and told him to go back to the dens, the safest place of the territory. Tike was honestly fearing for his life at this point. With his two eldest sisters dead and his brother dead, that left himself and Kyra who may or may not still be alive. He wanted to go to the dens and sleep. He wanted to sleep off this whole day. He wanted to wake up tomorrow and find that it was only just a bad dream and that Taq was still alive. But, the rational part of Tike knew that this was reality and he had seen his brother's death with his own two eyes and with his death, went a part of Tike as well. He felt a little piece of himself die right along with his brother. Taq had always balanced him out and kept him on a leash so to speak. Taq kept him in check with his rage and his other personality quirks that had been found undesirable by others. But now that he was gone, there was no one to do that for him. Tike feared himself in a way. But with a nod to Vorilye, Tike went on his way to the dens. After he was out of sight from the adults, he made haste to get to his destination, fearing that a wolf would be hiding in the forest that surrounded the lake waiting to kill him.
A relieved breath passed Shayde’s maw at Tike’s affirmation that the peppered femme had done nothing to him. He was just a little shaky from the attack, nothing to truly alarm the beta. This whole incident would likely change the pup, given that he was now the only remaining child of Vorilye. His mother was dead, his sisters, and now his brother? She didn’t know if he had seen the death of his sisters, but this murder was one he couldn’t have missed. There was little she could do to console him, and she knew that trying would only lead him to suffer. She would let him hope, if only for a little while, that he was having a nightmare. Let reality sink in at a later date.
Vorilye walked to his son, nudging the pup to get him to move. At his words, Shayde nodded briefly, stepping to Tike’s other side. She expected he wanted her to escort him back to the dens so that he could dispose of the peppered femme’s body—which would no doubt be a horrid sight for the pup to see—as well as grieve in solitude over his lost son. But just before she could begin to lead the pup away, Vorilye spoke up again. She froze hearing his name pass his lips, and she couldn’t bring herself to look at him. Yes. They had much to speak about. But was this really the time to hold a conversation? Weren’t there things he should be doing?
As Shayde turned back to Tike, she was startled to find the pup missing. “Tike!” she cried out, bounding a short distance after him. But with his head start, he was already out of her sight and on his way to the dens. Every ounce of her being was telling her to chase after him, to make sure he made it to the dens safely. But she could feel Vorilye’s eyes on her. It made her skin crawl in a pleasing, albeit terrifying sort of way. She turned to face him slowly. Her eyes locked at his feet for a moment before slowly combing up his body. Powerful, golden paws. Strong, swift legs. Muscular barrel. Proud chest. Golden maw with a wry smirk, holding within it powerful fangs capable of ripping through the toughest of hides.
And finally, the smoldering golden orbs, locked onto her own eyes.
Shayde was lost in those beautiful eyes of his, her body tense yet relaxed all at the same time. She felt comfortable in his presence, where in a different situation she would be fearing for her life. They were completely alone in the small clearing, surrounded only by the silence of the woods and the powerful stench of fresh blood from the peppered femme and Taqqiq’s body. But the red beta hardly took notice of either. The only thing she saw was the powerful brute before her.

Like the obedient son that he was, Tike headed off toward the dens. Vorilye watched with apprehension as the young brute disappeared from his line of vision. While he was disconcerted by the idea of his only known remaining pup wandering off throughout the territory without supervision, he also acknowledged that he would not be able to shelter Tike forever. Vorilye would have to grow comfortable with the idea of Tike growing up. He would not be able to remain helpless, particularly in the face of the growing dangers throughout Anikira. Not one, but three, of his pups had been murdered in cold blood. He did not know if Kyra was still alive or not. It would be better for the brute to just imagine that she was; it would be simpler than living with the doubt that she still lived.
It was at this time that the alpha brute turned back to his beta, staring down at the much smaller femme with a look of interest. Even in the face of his most violent act as the alpha of Descai, Shayde still remained. She had yet to call him a monster. The femme was obedient, albeit stubborn, and she always did as he asked without question. The brute's golden eyes smoldered as she stared at the red wolf. He had never quite noticed just how... enticing she was. She was quite the little challenge to him. Shayde had never expressed interest in him, and that alone drove him crazy. He was desirable, was he not?
Gone from his mind was the cougar, Akihra, and the still-bleeding out body of Taqqiq that laid a mere five feet away from them. Vorilye could not help but smirk at his beta. He was the alpha here, and he would take whatever he wanted. And right now, he wanted Shayde. Without a word, the alpha brute approached the femme, not bothered to seek her approval as he shoved his nose beneath her tail, anxious to see if she wanted him just as much as he wanted her. He was greeted with a lovely wave of pheromones, indicating that she, too, was ready.
The brute smirked, spurred on by the fact that Shayde, too, wanted to be his. At least, she would be his for the moment. Vorilye took his beta, though he was not as violent as he had been with femmes before her. Shayde was a little bit more special to him; she was the only femme in this pack that he actually had an ounce of trust in. She followed his orders with little to no contention, and even when she had a few choice words for him, she never talked back in a way that would make him angry.
Vorilye finished, backing away from his beta before approaching the shore of the lake, dipping his head to take a long drink from the blood-tainted water. Never mind that he had just dumped the body of Akihra in not twenty feet from where he drank. He relished the taste of blood; nothing about it could taint this day for him. Nothing.
It had been some time since Shayde was last alone with the alpha for any extended period of time. She thought back on it, trying to remember the exact time. He made her his beta. It seemed like ages ago, yet it had only been months. Early summer. They’d been on the ridge. It was the first time he got beneath her skin, egging her on in a way only he could. She’d grown accustomed to his behavior since then, hardly letting what he said get to her as it had that day. He had even admitted she was nothing more than a toy to him, the most useful in his toybox. And then he had the nerve to make her his beta? Perhaps her decision to accept had been a foolish one. He was dark and twisted, and possibly a touch evil. Was the peppered femme’s death not enough evidence to that?
Yet Shayde never once tried to leave the brute. Sure, he was dark and twisted, and perhaps evil. But she had seen the caring side of Vorilye not days ago. Somewhere, deep down, he had a heart. It was damaged and lonely, but it was a heart. And a brute with a heart deserved the benefit of the doubt. She had long since decided she would never turn her back on her alpha. He had taken her in when she had been rude to him, offered her a place at his side with the promotion, and allowed her to rule in his stead as he took off on some wild adventure. She still didn’t know the facts about the endeavor, but it had led to his sons and his—whatever he had referred to her as—to come into his packlands and join his pack. In short, he trusted her far more than she believed she deserved.
And a wolf that trusted her that much deserved the same treatment reciprocated.
Besides. He had yet to cause her any true harm. Though perhaps that was all about to change. Vorilye had turned his attention to her once again, his eyes filled with a dark lust Shayde had never seen before. It was similar to the look he’d had when approaching the peppered femme, only this made the beta femme’s skin crawl in a wonderfully pleasing way. She shuddered under his intense gaze, backing away from him slightly. She wasn’t afraid of him; she was afraid of what he was making her feel. Her body was ablaze with desires that nearly knocked her to the ground. She had always been able to be in his presence without so much as glance his way. Now she felt she couldn’t take her eyes off of him.
The great brute approached her without a single word. Shayde swallowed hard, trembling with anticipation, and made sure to keep very still. Her brown gaze followed his every movement, muscles tensing as he drew nearer. As he touched his cold nose to her rump, a shudder waved up the femme’s spine, followed closely by an intense flame. She threw her head back slightly, a low moan slipping out. What was he doing to her? The normally level-headed femme let go of herself, giving in to the instinct. She turned her rump closer to him, almost begging him to take her.
And take her he did.
She was expecting a rough time of his work, but was surprised by how gentle he really was, perhaps even a little disappointed. The raw power the brute held was finally upon her, and yet there was no pain as she was expecting. Simply bliss and pleasure. And she didn’t hate it in the least. Her body obeyed his every command, keeping pace with the deed for as long as he kept it up. And then, the fire died. Vorilye had finished his business, leaving an empty feeling where the passion had just been. The red femme stood on wobbly legs, panting heavily as she watched the alpha brute through heavy eyes. A drink. Yes, that sounded wonderful. But as she went to take a step towards the lake, her legs held her no longer and she crumpled to the ground. A silly grin appeared on the femme’s maw, and she began to laugh at her pathetic display. Maybe the brute’s power wasn’t all pain-inducing after all.

As the brute lifted his face from the water, he stared back at the mangled body of Taqqiq that had done nothing but drip blood into the dirt since Akihra had ended his life. They had not moved him, touched him, or even given any mind to him when there was a better offer in front of him. Was he a terrible father? Truly, he had bonded more with Tike than Taqqiq when the pair had arrived in his territory. But he should not have disregarded his son so callously. He was a failure as a father, and he could not bring himself to look at his son again. His gaze fell anywhere but the body of the young brute. He was losing his mind.
And Shayde... Vorilye had only recently started to think of her as anything more than a lacky. She was great for doing all of his bidding, but it was nice to see that she had more uses than just those he had delegated to her in the past. He was silent as the femme strode up beside him. He would not comment on what had just passed between them. It was an unspoken rule that emotions did not play a part in this game. He glanced at the red femme, sighed impatiently, then started to speak.
"Shayde, I want you to go make sure that Tike made it back to the dens. Also, regarding your duties..." the brute trailed off, shooting a look of disapproval in her direction. He remained silent for almost a full minute, leaving the thought hanging in her mind so that she could have all sorts of terrible scenarios race through her mind about what he was about to say. Vorilye never changed. He found amusement in the discomfort of others, and it had been quite some time since he had picked on his beta this way. The last time he had done so was when he gave her the rank.
"I am tired of dealing with every loner that sets paw in Acerbus. You are free to accept or dismiss wolves from the pack as you see fit. Any loner that enters without announcing himself, get rid of him. If someone goes about it the right way, then you have discretion, if you get there first, whether or not that wolf is suitable for our pack. Are you clear?" He rattled off the instructions like they were no big deal. Truth be told, Vorilye could not bring himself to tolerate all the lone wolves in the territory. He would rather Shayde handle some of them in his place so that he could keep his temper in check. The fewer idiots he had to face, the better. And, to some extent, he trusted Shayde.
"I'm going to go patrol. Gather up the pack. I need to meet with them all. There are going to be some changes," he instructed before turning his back on the femme and starting to walk away. "Oh, and take care of Taq," he called back as an afterthought before trotting away once more.

Vorilye || Mackenzie Valley Brute || Eight Years Old
After picking herself up from the ground, Shayde strolled over to the lake and took a long drink beside the alpha brute. She made sure she wasn’t close enough to be touching (especially since her hormones would flare up again), but she wasn’t too far from him either. For some odd reason, she just wanted to be in his presence, to look up and find that he was watching her. She could care less if he smiled at her (though a part of her would have really liked it); she just wanted his attention on her for the time being. After giving him what he wanted—what they both wanted—it seemed only fair that she monopolize his time for a while.
And why shouldn’t she? She was his beta, after all. The one he turned to for just about everything. His son was still too young to hold the same respect she held, though she knew once he was grown, he would become his father’s greatest ally. But there was still time before that happened. For now, it was Shayde. A swell of pride and conceit lifted in the femme’s chest. As of right now, there was no other wolf—no other femme—in the territory that could take her place at Vorilye’s side. It wasn’t like he loved her or anything, but she was in the top tier of his most important allies, right next to his son. That alone was enough to make her feel empowered.
The beta’s thoughts were interrupted when the alpha brute began to speak. He said nothing of their act (not that she’d been expecting him to), and quickly resumed his role of alpha, issuing her orders. Shayde nodded curtly. But then he spoke of her duties, trailing off. Her heart slammed against her ribs painfully, though she showed none of it on her face. What was that supposed to mean? Was he going to demote her? After what they just did? Or, perhaps, was he going to make her his alphess? Most would have been pleased by the notion. Shayde, however, wanted nothing to do with it. Their copulation had been spur of the moment. There was no need for him to do something silly like promote her. Besides. That hardly seemed like something the alpha brute would do.
Shayde took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. He was just playing his mind games with her. She ought to have been immune to them by now, or at least accustomed to them. But he could still weasel his way in and freak her out in the most dire of situations. She really hated that about him. Vorilye continued after a few moments of watching her—he was definitely toying with her—giving her new duties. Shayde was now capable of accepting new pack members. Chasing them out of the territory was something she was already used to doing, especially prior to the alpha’s return. Another wave of pride swelled in the femme’s chest. Her foolish worrying had been for naught. “Understood,” she responded with a curt nod.
Vorilye didn’t remain long. After giving her some more orders, he started to walk away. Just before he disappeared, he told her to take care of Taq. Shayde turned and stared after him as he slipped into the shadows. “You want me to what?” she called into the darkness. She knew he was no longer there to answer him, but she kind of hoped he would turn around to do so anyway. Nope. He was gone. With a heavy sigh, she trudged over to the body of Taq. “Oh yes. Shayde is a great beta!” Shayde began digging in the soft earth near the base of a tree, grumbling to herself. “Not only does she chase loners away, she can now accept them! And you can vent your sexual frustrations on her!” She stopped for a moment, turning to where the alpha brute vanished.
“And even better! She’s perfect for burial services!” she barked loudly into the dark forest. Vorilye hadn’t even said goodbye to his son, let alone acted as if he was pained in the least. Shayde knew, however, that he was likely to be using patrolling as an excuse to get his act together before he faced the others of the pack. But still... It irked the little femme that he hadn’t shown any true emotion for his dead son. And yet he cared so deeply for Tike. Was the difference between the two that large? Shayde herself preferred Tike, but that was simply because she and Taq had gotten off on the wrong paw. The femme shook her head rigorously, pushing her thoughts away. This wasn’t the time to think about such things. She needed to get this pup buried and round up the rest of the pack before Vorilye returned. Glancing at the body of Taq, she began digging faster. He was a big pup.
This was going to take a while...
