After Taqqiq helped his brother and the Descai beta drag the unconscious Noella back to the pack dens, the beta had showed the twins around the terra. Taqqiq had been longing to speak to his twin about many things, mainly about why Taq was taking care of a four month old cougar cub; unfortunately, with Shayde the beta having been within earshot the whole time, Taqqiq decided against it. After the short and rather irritable tour, the Mackenzie brute had traveled back to the Drarynough Lake – he and Tike were supposed to meet there. Upon the brutes’ back was a bundle of tawny, spotted fur. Jade had fallen asleep on Taqqiq’s back; he had been too afraid to leave the sleepy cub behind at the dens.
A soft sigh as Taqqiq reached behind and gently plucked the cub from his back, depositing her in a small hollow – the very hollow that Kallik had once lain in, before she’d mated with Vorilye. Taqqiq didn’t know any of this of course, not even that he was standing in the vicinity of where the deed had taken place. He had merely come here because, unlike the misty forest around him, the lake was quiet; it offered the trouble young brute solace, when nothing else did. The water rippled gently with the soft breeze, and Taqqiq stepped up to the shore. He gazed down into the water, seeing only broken images of himself. But the breeze died down and soon the water stilled as well, and Taqqiq was able to look at his reflection in the steely grey lake.
Too much had happened to the poor pup, and he had matured badly since the death of his sisters’. His mindset was rather bleak, and he often spoke with a weary tone in his voice. Still, nothing haunted the young brute more than the abrupt changes in his personality. No longer was he the playful, slightly mischievous pup he had been before – he was distant, depressed, he hardly ate anything he caught, as he was hunting for Jade. A deep sigh rippled the water, and his image broke again. Taqqiq thought of his father, Vorilye – he had been in his presence for ten minutes at most. He had never even spoken to the brute that sired him.
Taqqiq wasn’t sure what he thought of Vorilye – how was one as young as he supposed to feel towards a complete strange, who just happened to sire him? The black wolf groaned, lowering himself to the waters’ edge; his claws were touching the water, and he dragged his paw back and forth, slicing through the greyish liquid. A soft, mournful howl came from his maw; the only thing it spoke of was anguish. Taqqiq wanted his mother’s comfort, he wanted to play with his twin, Tike, he wanted to argue with his little sister Kyra…but most of all, he wanted his father. Wasn’t a father supposed to be his sons’ best friend? Vorilye was supposed to be bonding with his remaining children, not away doing Fenris knows what. A soft sigh slipped past Taqqiq’s gold muzzle once more, and he knew that, truthfully, he wanted to get to know his father. He just didn’t know how…
