Upon seeing Amyntas out of the territory with an eerie threat following behind him, Vorilye meandered back into the heart of his pack lands. While it was growing colder by the day, eye had not yet settled over the water of Drarynough, though the alpha male did not know whether it would grow cold enough for the lake to freeze completely at all. This was the first winter for the Descai Pack, and so Vorilye was starting to grow anxious. The cooler the weather got, the more he concerned for his pack's survival. Winter could eliminate the wolves if they did not plan accordingly.
It would be necessary to organize a pack hunt soon. Perhaps he would send Tike with Noe and Angel so that he could learn a thing or two about the hunt. Vorilye had no idea what Kallik had taught the pups; it was painfully obvious that she had isolated them from everyone but herself in their youth, and so he wanted to ensure that Tike experienced pack life to the fullest while he still could. And then he still needed to track down his daughter... The brute sighed. How could he possibly patch that relationship now? The male had truly believed that she was trying to take Tike away from him, and he could not have handled losing yet another one of his sons to a femme. Even if she was his own daughter, Vorilye did not know her. Hell, she did not even want him to know her name.
That was probably what devastated the alpha male the most. His own daughter did not trust him enough to grace him with something that even the most casual of acquaintances were granted. She must truly have believed him to hate her or want nothing to do with her, but Vorilye had never acted as if he did not approve of her in the short time they'd been together. Rather, apart from his explosion there at the end, the black and gold brute felt that they had a real connection. It was just like him to go and ruin the only good thing he ever found. It was a lesson to him. Others could not be trusted. Even family sometimes turned their back on you when you needed them most.
The alpha male was at a loss. Was everything that he did destined to fail? So far Vor had kept his pack above the water, but the hardest of the seasons was only just beginning. Vorilye knew that the population of his pack could spiral into oblivion if they could not organize and ensure that everyone received the appropriate care. Where can we go? he mused. Vorilye did not know what direction to take the pack at the moment. All he knew was that worry was overwhelming him in a way that he had never felt it. All he wanted to do was be successful and prove that he had what it took to run a pack. He could show Ithilwen and Arwen that they had no control over his life any longer. He was free from their grasp, and he would continue to push forward until he ran smack into the wall.
What they needed to do was forge a game plan. If there was no progression of the pack, then Vorilye had no power. They needed to constantly be moving forward or everything would be for naught. The brute strode toward the water, lapping up the glassy liquid as he stared down at his rippled reflection. The gold of his muzzle and eyes reflected back, taunting him. He was different; that much he knew. But was it really so bad as everyone had always told him? He was not a bad wolf, was he? He just wanted to prove himself to those who had wronged him at whatever cost it took. The indecision in the brute smiled right back at him as he stared aimlessly into Drarynough.

Shayde could practically feel the ground tremble beneath her feet as she trotted along the borders. The red femme had put on more weight in the past weeks, far more than was normal for a femme her size. And with each step, the extra weight in her belly swayed back and forth rather uncomfortably. Pregnant. How in the world could she be pregnant? It explained all the hormones coursing through her body, but really? Pregnant? As much as she wished to chew Vorilye out for what he’d done to her—the pups were definitely his—she was...hesitant. He had every right to know, of course, but...
The beta femme sighed deeply, slowing to a walk. She was already panting heavily, despite the short distance she’d been traveling. She was fat. Fat and pregnant. Pregnant with Vorilye’s pups. Pregnant. She let out another deep sigh, head hanging low. She had to tell him. They were his pups; she had to tell him. But just the idea of speaking to him of such a thing brought about a rapid heartbeat. He would kill her. Cast her aside and revoke her status. Just as he had with Kallik.
Shayde shuddered. Oh yes. She’d heard all about the story behind the pretty femme and Vorilye. Their tangled web of deception and lies. The moment he discovered she was pregnant with his pups, Vorilye cast Kallik out. And now here Shayde stood, in the very same situation. How could she speak of this to Vorilye? She valued her position at his side. She was not about to give it up just because he’d lost control of himself that one day. Shayde let out a incoherent grumble of annoyance, brow furrowing. This was all his fault. So no. She didn’t have to say a damn thing to him. This was her problem. She could take care of it herself.
Then again, there was the Tike thing... Perhaps telling the alpha’s son of her...condition was not the brightest of ideas. But he had deserved to know, right? He’d told her everything about his mother and what little he knew of his father. The least she could have done was come clean. She was actually surprised he hadn’t started looking down on her for it. Shayde wasn’t known for her promiscuity. She held her head high around the pack, acting as if she had all the control in the world. But once, just once, she’d slipped. Now look at her. She was fat. Fat and pregnant.
A low groan slipped from the beta’s maw as she turned inward. She was thirsty. Drarynough was the closest source of water to her location, albeit murky and potentially harmful to developing pups. A dark and twisted thought passed through the femmes’s mind. What if drinking the water happened to kill the pups? Her problem would be solved! But... She heaved a sigh, glancing at her stomach. She hadn’t known long that she was expecting, but she had gotten rather fond of the idea of becoming a mother. She was four years old already. If it had been a perfect world, this could very well have been her third litter. Instead, she spent her time keeping brutes at bay, refusing their advances during the mating season. It was typical she would have grown fertile out of season. And that her alpha just so happened to be in striking range.
As she let out yet another sigh, Shayde watched the mist lift into the air. It was winter. Cold. Curling up in the den with the others would actually become necessary soon, much to her discomfort. She doubted Vorilye would allow her within paw’s length, but she might be able to cozy up beside his son. After all, she was carrying his half-siblings. Shayde let out a humorless laugh as she came upon the lake, stopping short when she saw a shadow up ahead. She fell into a defensive position, growling threateningly. But then she saw who it was, silencing herself. Karma was a bitch.
Vorilye was standing at the edge of the lake, staring into the murky depths. He no doubt heard her growling, but Shayde made no movement to join him. She was thirsty. But her fear of rejection was far superior to her thirst. She stood a few feet away, staring blankly at him. Should she greet him? Should she turn tail and run? Was there a scent on her that might give away her pregnancy? Oh she hoped not... Her turmoil continued in silence as she stared at the black and gold brute, unmoving.

She had casually meandered into Acerbus, following a safe distance behind the Alpha; yet, she had been granted an opportunity to wander. Sarin was keen on being given the ability to do a bit of adventuring on her own, after all she would need to be inspecting the foliage of this area. If the plant-life was as dark as the wolves who lived here, then she would be in luck. 'It is always nice to have new creations,' a smug smirk had placed itself graciously upon her features. Thus far, Descai had been a beneficial choice - to say the least. Already a heavy task weighed upon her shoulders; yet, the female was more than willing to step up to the challenge. Training the whelp would be an interesting task, but the thought was exciting. It would be an accomplishment to watch the little canine grow up to be a strong warrior and he would have learned everything from her. 'I am a blessing to this pack,' a chuckle emitted her maw and its tone was quite cocky.
Boredly her pace slowed, she was curious about this brute who dominated these lands. There was something that he was hiding and she was determined to figure it out. A bond of trust would then be built, everything would progress quite well. Well, that is how it played out in her mind. Reality could hold a different truth, but Sarin would never be willing to admit that. She was an arrogant Mackenzie Valley femme and refused to let anything - especially herself - stand in the way. Casually the female lifted her hind leg to scratch her skull for a moment. A sigh was released before the female sniffed around for a moment, searching for Vorilye's freshest scent. Mentally applauding herself, the female almost instantly detected it. 'Apparently we even wander in the same general area,' the thought was amusing to her. Perhaps she and the Alpha would get along for reasons other than her own nosy interest.
With near silence the female set off at a brisk pace towards the direction she believed the brute to be in. Truth be told, she was extremely unfamiliar with this new area of the pack lands; however, it would not take long for her to master the basics. She would quickly discover the best spots for foliage, hunting, the female was a fast learner. It was finding those secret hiding spots that would take her the longest, she always needed to know absolutely everything. This tended to be hard to do when another pack mate may have never sniffed out a particular bush for a little spot in which to hide. Vibrant optics swam across the land, detecting as many details as possible. The sooner she could master all the Descai lands the better. It would make her more useful for the pack, more versatile. Her ego could never be stroked quite enough that was certain.
Speed dropped, the female heard a noise before her. The fresh air brought about by the presence of water was now clearly noticeable alongside the noise of quiet drinking. 'I found him,' a near silent laugh escaped her lips. It never failed, she would continue excelling until she was on top. The world would fall before her feet some day, and with good reason to. After all, few could hold the perfection that came naturally to the subordinate. Paws carried the female with additional silence now, the female preferred giving others a bit of unpredictability to their bland lives. A bit of a startle never hurt anyone; however, she was unable to give such a thing to the Alpha. For she appeared from the underbrush a few feet from him.
Instantly her head lowered a bit and the female's flickering tail became still. "Salutations, Master," the seductive undertone to her voice quite noticeable. She noted the scent of the other female, but did not make a sudden move to call the creature out. She was a spy and a fighter, the female would keep mental tabs on the other creature's position. If they attempted to draw too near to her master then they would be rather displeased with the outcome. A glaring gaze searched the terrain for a moment, nothing different from when she had first met Vorilye. Sarin was rather paranoid, it was not uncommon for her to watch for strangers. On most occasions she was not too accepting of spontaneous company. "Once more I have been graced with your presence it seems, I am quite lucky to be once more within your shadow." The femme inhaled the brute's scent, enjoying the momentary power trip it gave her.
Her attention remained on high alert, not only for the Alpha's speech but for the female lurking in the distance. 'I saw you, bitch,' Sarin had an especially difficult time with females. However, she would play nice if it was required. Nothing would be worth risking what was offered to her by the Alpha, she could play this game better than any of them. Or so she thought.
The crackle of footsteps alerted the alpha male to another wolf approaching, but he did not fret, nor did he stir from his current position. He would recognize that sound anywhere. It was his beta, the only wolf in the pack that he had truly grown to respect. Vorilye smirked, allowing the femme to lay in wait for quite some time before he dragged his head away from the water and turned slowly. He dipped his head ever so slightly in greeting, though he did not speak. She seemed nervous for some reason, and this unsettled the male. What sort of mess would he have to clean up this time? He turned an inquisitive eye on Shayde, intent on making her feel uncomfortable until whatever seemed to have her on edge was confessed. Her blank stare probably confused him more than anything else.
Shayde was never at a loss for anything. Vorilye had know the female long enough to know that, even in the worst of situations, she rarely held her tongue. So what was keeping her quiet right now? He had not known her to be skittish at all, though she was not quite to that point. Instead, he felt as if she were... afraid of him. Vorilye intended to have this influence on others, but he had thought Shayde would know better than that. In all the time she had spent leading the pack with him, he had never known her to fear him. She respected him more than anything else, even if he knew that she did not like feeling inferior. That much was enough to make the male smirk at his smaller counterpart; surely it could be nothing serious, or she would have fled the territory in an attempt to never be found again.
Once more, a wolf approached. It seemed wherever the black and gold male went, others would follow. He never truly had any escape from the pack, though it was becoming more of a comfort and less of a drag as of late, particularly with the addition of some wolves that he felt he could truly utilize. While Sarin had done an excellent job of masking her trail, Vorilye felt the fur raise on the back of his neck when she drew near. It was somewhat uncanny what a mood change the female brought to the pack. Sarin was the epitome of what he was looking for, yet he had not the heart to trust her with much. While she may have seen training Tike as an honor, Vorilye saw it as yet another step toward his young son becoming a productive member of the pack. That was all he really wanted. It was not that he favored her in any way, but rather that she was a means to an end. She was the only one who he believed, apart from himself, would stand any chance against Tike once he picked up on the skill. His size, even though he was not full grown, was quite daunting.
The words the female purred at him fell on deaf ears. It was only when the alpha male felt it necessary that he acknowledged her approach. Her advances were not much for him to concern himself with. It would not be the first time that a wolf appealed to him based on his power. It was the reason that Vorilye was not quick to tie himself down. He had done more than an adequate job with his pack thus far without a mate beside him. Plus, most of these wolves were just looking for power. They had no interest in him, and he had no interest in them apart from what they could give him when he wanted it. Vorilye was a loner in his heart, due mostly to the scars Ithilwen left those years ago.
It was interesting to see that Sarin had been the only one to speak, yet it felt as if a conversation had gone on solely in between the three's eyes. Between Sarin's dashing green eyes and Shayde's dashing reddish-brown ones, there was so much that needed to be discussed. Introductions would come first, but Vorilye was rather interested to see what would happen between the two females first. He enjoyed watching Shayde grow defensive and irritated toward the other females in the pack. Maybe it was jealousy, or maybe it was simply because she was superior to them. Either way, Vorilye enjoyed the show.
And so he simply sat back and remained quiet, waiting for his beta's reaction to the newest pack mate. It was sure to be quite interesting; any thoughts of her odd behavior had flown away at this point. He was more excited for his own amusement than curious about what the red female might have to hide from him. And let the show begin.

Vorilye || Mackenzie Valley Brute || Eight Years Old
The weather had been getting colder and colder every day now. It would be interesting to say the least how Tike would handle his first real winter. Well, it would be interesting for Tike to see what real winter was. He had been born in January but he had been too young to remember anything or really experience it and by the time he had been old enough, winter was on it’s way out. He didn’t know whether to be worried to be excited.
He also worried about Kyra. This would be her first winter as well. He wasn’t sure if she had even left the area yet. She may have just left himself and his father on that one day and stayed in the pack lands? He hoped that she had. He didn’t want yet another one of his siblings to die. It was painful enough as it was to deal with the fact that all but two of them from a litter of what? Five for six pups? It might have had something to do with the time of year they had been born. Winter must not be a good time to have pups.
Tike had been traveling to the area where his brother had been killed. He wasn’t really sure why he wanted to go back there. Did he have some weird obsession to make himself feel more pain than what was necessary? He wasn’t sure. All he knew was that he wanted to go over by the water and try to get something out of it. Maybe it would help him not feel so out of control. Ever since his brother’s death, he had felt that he was not in control of his own life. He could not control himself. He felt as though someone was always watching for the right moment to kill him off as well and then go after his sister.
Then there was that conversation he had with Shayde. He was regretting telling her everything. It wasn’t really his story to tell, even though it kind of was. His parent’s business was his parent’s business. He prayed to whatever, if anything, that was looking over them all that Shayde had not told Vorilye about the conversation he had. Tike hadn’t received any sort of punishment yet even though he had deliberately disobeyed Vorilye’s command several times. Still, he didn’t want to feel whatever wrath that was.
When he had arrived at the waterfront, Tike smelled the presence of other wolves and he thought about turning around and going back to the dens. He didn’t really want to deal anyone else right now. He wanted to be alone to..mourn some more he guessed. Whatever the reason was, he was not in the mood to deal with other wolves. He sighed to himself, an inaudible noise to the wolves whom he still couldn’t see but could smell them being quite close. Tike remained in the trees as he decided what to do. Eh, might as well get some water or something. He had heard that the water was toxic but what did he care for? Tike had been experiencing weird mood changes. One minute he was extremely paranoid and the next he was too depressed to even move. He tried his best to keep up appearances for the rest of the pack. He didn’t want them to look down on him or shun him from the land because he was crazy. How he wished there was some herb for him to take to make this go away. Perhaps he would go look for a shaman as there didn’t seem to be one here. As much as he didn’t want to admit to his problems or his need for help, he couldn’t stand these random mood switches.
He decided to enter the party and see what the reaction would be. He saw that his father was there as well as Shayde and Sarin. Well, this will be interesting. Tike didn’t want to speak to anyone. He would much rather just look around and stare at everyone awkwardly with his beautiful green eyes. Tike hadn’t had a lot of experience with social gatherings. He had only had his mother and his siblings to speak to when he was growing up and occasionally he exchanged a word with Akihra but she was dead now so that didn’t matter. He didn’t know what to say to them. Even a simple “Hello” would have felt awkward for Tike. As stated before, he would rather just stare at everyone awkwardly...one at time. .
Not much later after Shayde herself arrived had another wolf’s scent filled the area. It was one that the beta did not recognize, but she didn’t tear her gaze from Vorilye. She was pregnant. With his pups. She had to tell him. He had given her his traditional head-nod greeting; to which she immediately responded in kind; and she knew what she had to do. It was impossible, now, however, as the unknown wolf made her appearance. She was a dark-pelted femme, though not nearly as dark as the alpha himself, and she was a fair bit larger than Shayde was. The beta scoffed. Bet I weigh more than her now... Her ears flicked backwards in place of her gaze. She had to acknowledge the fact that she was carrying, but she needn’t stare at her expanding stomach every ten seconds.
From her short distance, Shayde watched over the scene before her. The strange femme was obviously acquainted with Vorilye—in what way, Shayde didn’t particularly care. The words purred to the alpha brute stirred something within Shayde, and she didn’t particularly like it. Jealousy? Ridiculous. Vorilye was by no stretch her mate. He could fraternize with whomever he wished. She just preferred they kept the lovey-dovey crap to a minimum in her presence. She was already experiencing slight morning sickness due to the off-season pregnancy. Losing her recent meal due to observing some loving kisses was not something she wished to do.
Hm? The strange femme had scanned the area, gaze locking onto her own for a second. Was that a smirk? Though she wasn’t hidden by any stretch, she also wasn’t in plain sight. Shayde pinned her ears to her head, grumbling incoherently under her breath. What gave this femme the right to be so damn cocky? Just as Shayde went to show officially show herself, she sensed Tike’s presence. Her eyes immediately honed in on him, tag swaying gently behind her. Oh Tike... He had seen her at her most vulnerable, and heard the worst news possible. Yet he was such a level-headed pup. Whether it was her coaxing or the fact that she basically broke down in front of him, he hadn’t lashed out at her. And he had promised not to say a word to his father. She knew just how difficult it would be for him, given the already fragile relationship the two had. But she was genuinely grateful that he was on her side. Once she spilled everything to Vorilye—if she spilled to him—she would ensure Tike’s role in the whole secret was kept a secret. Or perhaps she would convince Vorilye to only punish her, if a punishment happened to be the course of action he took.
As if spurned on by Tike’s arrival, Shayde turned her focus back to the two adults before her. She walked up to them both, stride full of the confidence she usually had. Nothing was out of the ordinary. Nothing at all. “Hello, Alpha,” she greeted formally, dipping her head as she approached. She came to a halt a good distance from the two, not wanting to get too close to the strange femme. Her eyes were locked on said femme, giving away nothing of what she was feeling. “Have we grown as a pack?” She gave the newest member a quick once over, eyes never once betraying her thoughts. Why is it always females that come here? Perhaps it was just her own preference that caused her irritation at the many females in the pack. Or perhaps it was something more, something she didn’t quite want to admit to herself just yet.
Her tail flicked irritably a few times, other than that the femme remained relatively still. The alpha's silence irritated her slightly, for she was certain that he had heard her words. However, Sarin held her speech, there was no point in pushing the topic. Emerald orbs shifted from the red female for a moment, darting off into the direction of Tike. Had the femme not been in the presence of Shayde and Vorilye, she might have smirked and proceeded to call out the whelp. Now, her gaze danced away from the young one rapidly. Her biggest concern was the other adult in the distance.
Sarin assumed this female had some rank of importance by the way she carried herself. The female imagined that most of the other subordinates did not carry them in such a confident manner - of course the Mackenzie Valley female accepted the fact that she could be wrong. After all, maybe there were other odd balls like herself out there that could not completely break down their pride. The concept was sour, but it had to be known. Maybe it was common for all ranks to stand in a way that drew the gaze of others. It could simply be part of the trap.
Even though her stay within Descai had been for nearly a month now, Sarin had only met a few of her pack mates. Most of the time she left the others alone. There was no reason to go out and search for them. If they needed her or knew about her then they could find her. Laughter nearly slipped from her maw, there would be no creature looking for her - life was fine that way. Sarin had given herself an opportunity to relax and proceed with studying. Having the extra space within her typically busy schedule was a rather welcome experience. Descai did not have too much going on right now, at least that she was involved in. The training of Tike had yet to officially begin, and the femme was certain that she would make quite a warrior out of the pup. After all, she was a grand fighter herself.
The entirety of her old life had been spent training and studying until her body was nearly worn down. What was the point of living if you could do nothing for yourself? Sarin did not believe that there was; therefore, she ensured that her skills were well equipped. What else was there to life? If one could not at least defend themself than what did they have? Nothing, absolutely nothing. Their own gift of life was merely a thing of chance. She did not live that way, there was more to life than barely getting by. Silence still rang out in the air, but now the red creature had began to bring herself closer. 'The will be interesting,' Sarin was amused by the situation dancing before her orbs, there were so many possibilities. It was likely that the red female and herself would not get along, if for no reason other than this particular way of meeting.
After the eternity of deafness, Shayde brought about conversation. She was the one who spoke, and Sarin was certain the alpha would respond to this one's words. A spark of anger ignited in her chest, but she prevented any emotions from flickering throughout her features. 'Isn't she important,' the comment was snide even within her mind. Sarin was not one to enjoy being ignored or reminded that she was not as important as another canine, especially another female. It greatly irked her to not be on top already in this pack, but patience could eventually get her somewhere. She simply had to prove her worthiness to the alpha, then the situation would be changing more towards her favor. For now, the femme remained quiet, permitting Vorilye to speak if he wished and allowing Tike to remain in hiding.
