A product of their mother’s rape, Goliath and his siblings came into the world through a misfortunate circumstance of weakness and domination. His colossal father, Belial, laid the seeds of three enormous pups within Ahri, as well as a fourth runt – eventually the pups outgrew the small female’s womb and were born heavily premature, the first litter to be born into the Ferus pack.
And so continues the fairy tale story – Goliath, the oldest and self-proclaimed wisest of his brothers, grew at a tremendous rate, though they spent little time together and barely afforded each other more than a moment’s attention. Only Aaricia, the runt and youngest sister, held Goliath’s constant adoration, but few noticed that his affections spanned far beyond brotherly love. He revered her pure heart and innocent nature so deeply and inexplicably that he rarely, if ever, left her side.
Not long after his weaning, the members of his family began to disappear without cause or explanation, and eventually Ferus became disbanded entirely. Some would say that this was a blessing for the young Goliath, whose regard for his younger sister bordered on unhealthy, and lead to his final decision to leave his abandoned homeland upon the island of Ina’mos and journey to the Western shore of Anikira.
Spending the next few months of his life in solitary, Goliath’s contradictory youth and size deterred rogue nomads from crossing his path; even in adolescence, his height outmatched almost any rival wolf of mature form, yet his growth spurts continued to steal upon him in the still of night. With the passing of each day, his eyes ascended further and further above the ground, and his plump young frame soon hardened into the massive and hulking stature akin to his father’s. Though the memories of his parents were shadowed and vague, Goliath had one single, sure recollection of Belial – to the pup, he had been god-like and immense, his legs wider than the trunks of trees, and his height defying even the tallest of stars. Compared to the common wolf, his father was a deity – an insane, wonderful deity. In truth, Goliath never for a moment believed that his father could have perished along with the rest of Ferus – not unless the divine god Fenrir himself had ventured from his unassailable height to destroy him.
At the age of one, Goliath appeared almost more bear than wolf at his full height of 46 inches, and his formidable size and presence contributed to his equally massive brashness and unfaltering confidence, his sheer enormity often leading him to ignore his callow youth. Height was not his only blessing, for he was proportionately defined by sinuous muscle, making him a lean contender even against wolves of greater age and experience. Not yet at sexual maturity, the longing to settle and raise a family is yet to be realised, but latent in him is the desire to find a female similar to his fair sister and mother – delicate, small, and undeniably breakable.
Personality:
Goliath has all the charm and dark allure of a mad king – powerful in his own right, but incapable of understanding that his authority over the world has its limits. He believes himself to be a higher being, and as such, has difficulty reigning in his dominant nature to show respect or submission, even when it is in his best interest to do so. This is likely due to his innate veneration of his own exorbitant size and strength, as well as the absence of proper socialisation when he was maturing in solitude. Never taught to behave or to submit, he lacks the qualities that would allow him to serve a pack; tactless and loose with his wit, it is easy for him to strike offense without intending to, nor caring for the repercussions.
He is often pitilessly humourous – Goliath is nothing without his whimsy, and resents those who are incapable of laughter. His wit is tactless, his intellect crude, and his humour is so obscure that many cannot fathom when he is jesting, and when he is deathly serious – often he switches between the two with flawless transition. Not unlike his mother, he is a creature of great duplicity and can display many contradictory virtues and downfalls at a whim, be it patience or impatience, mercy or cruelty, loyalty or treachery. He is both a powerful ally, capable of flattening any who stand in his path, as well as a loose canon and lover of chaos, his impulses wild and driven by the need to disrupt normality. Those who wish to make a comrade of this enormous brute should be sure that the risk is worthwhile, as he is beholden to no one, and isn’t afraid to make this known.
An unlikely characteristic amidst his otherwise imperious nature is his capacity to be loving. When Ferus disbanded, the desertion of his family left a spacious vacancy in his heart, which he attempts to fill with even the smallest signs of kindness from others. He thrives so intently when shown affection that he is highly capable of having multiple lovers at once, because despite how easily he becomes attached to others, he is still wayward in nature and is not particularly faithful. Caution is highly advised, as his love is not tender or warm – it is a fierce blend of love and possession, entirely imposing and all-encompassing. Only when in love is he capable of volatile anger and violence.
On the surface, Goliath plays a façade of sanity – but journeying into his mind, his temperamental quirks are actually deep-rooted crevices that compromise his ability to see right from wrong. It was always inevitable that Goliath would inherit some semblance of madness from both parents; his mother, a madwoman of two split minds, and his father, a brute driven by his own eccentric balance of insanity and savagery, procreated to deliver into the world a strange and confused beast. As a depraved individual, Goliath’s obsession with his sister has remained dormant within him long after her death, and has ever since been seeking a dainty little she-thing to take her place. Unlike most wolves who pursue strong and healthy mates, Goliath adores those of lesser size and innate fragility – a madness that can only be explained by a fear of being abandoned once again, as those who are smaller and weaker could surely never escape him.
