Though it seemed as if the weeks ticked by slowly, every day was fresh in the royal femme's mind. She grew stronger and larger by the day, quickly surpassing her siblings in both size and willpower until she knew that she would forever be their superior. Even her brothers paled in size to the great Valeria. She was strong, crafty, and capable of anything she put her mind to. Yet her father left the pack to Ryker... To this day, the little alphess (at least this was how she saw herself) could not fathom why her father made that decision.
The femmes of the pack were clearly more sound of mind. She and Zofia were well-rounded and capable of handling anyone within the pack. Had Valeria earned the honors, she would have rule with justice and fairness, particularly for the oppressed females of the pack. She was tired of being made to feel inferior because of her gender. And now that she towered over them all, they could cower and fear her strength. She would teach them all that she was their master, their leader, and that any and all goodness came through her. They would be happy when she said so, not when they felt like it. The pack was a single entity, and they needed to act as such.
Yet her elder brother continued to allow the pack members to run rampant. He had no control over them, and as much as she loved her, blood, Valeria simply did not believe he was worthy of the honor. From the day her father announced Ryker as his replacement, Valeria had been dreaming. There was a whole world out there for them, and Valeria could truly make a difference. She had the heart of a leader and the strength that most females could only imagine. No one would dare to challenge her leadership. Yet here in Descai, she was merely one of the alpha's brats. She had no position of power and could not prove herself without challenging someone either blood-related to her or one of her siblings' parents. It was such a tight-knit group that any rebellion simply did not make sense unless she wanted to throw away all her family ties.
But there was another option. She could leave the pack, retain her family, yet still be her own individual. Valeria was capable of so much more than this little pack. She could make a real difference to those scraggly loners wandering the free lands. She could bring them under her leadership and give them a purpose. They would become great, and it would all be thanks to her strength and determination. But she would not be able to go it alone. Although it was strange, Valeria was so strongly bonded with her sister, Zofia, that she could not imagine life without her. And so today was the day that she hatched out the idea. She was sure her sister would readily agree that they were better than this place, that they could take their lives into their own paws and shape it into whatever they chose. But she would need Zofia's full support in order to make it work. She would not approach their father alone.
With a short howl in summoning to her sister, Valeria plopped her rump on the plush summer brush of the forest. Hopefully, one of her nosy brothers or sisters would not scurry in to spy on them. She only trusted Zofia with this right now. She could not have someone running off to Ryker and spoiling their fun. He might see them as a threat to his leadership. At this point, Valeria had no desire to lead Descai. If he wanted to run the pack into the ground, Valeria would gladly allow it so long as none of her closer siblings went down in the process. Ryker, Zephyros and Sypher had always managed to segregate themselves from the younger pups. It was only Zirena and Zofia that really seemed to care anymore. And so be it; if the males wanted to frolic around in daddy's territory forever, that was their right. But she was not going to be a part of it.
