"We leave at dawn, little one," was the last thing Kiva said before passing out, her daughter curled against her side. They had spent at least a week constantly practicing and working on Sasha's swimming skills. She had started off slowly, basically grasping the concept, but Kiva now felt she was ready. She had shown a lot of improvement and, even though the silver wolf knew it would still be a difficult couple of days for her daughter, she had no doubt she had it in her to come out victorious. However, unknown to Sasha, they would not be returning to Inamos. No, Kiva could no longer take submitting to an alpha who couldn't care less about her. She needed to conquer her past and once more rise to take her place as a noble alpha just as she had many years ago when her parents kicked her and her brother out of their pack. That was exactly what she was going to do.
The night went by quickly and before she knew it, Kiva was being woken up to the rising sun shining in her face. Knowing each second was precious to their escspe, she woke her dsughter up before going to eat off a deer they had caught a day or two ago. After they had eaten as much as they could, Kiva began the journey to their new life. She moved swiftly and quickly, following the path she had planned out in her head. She moved in a basically straight line, wanting to get out of Kairos territory. The Geysers of Nysm was her first destination and, once there, she walked as far as she could before stopping at the boundaries of another pack. That was as far as they could go on land.
Waiting for her daughter to catch up, she looked at the water and was extremely thankful to see how calm it was. She walked out into it until she was far enough to comfortably swim and then she headed south, farther and farther away from Inamos, the land she once called home. Yet, the farther away she got, the more free She felt. She was finally becoming herself again. She would no longer have to hide behind the mask of a subordinate, she wouldn't have to bow down to an alpha anymore or be treated like she was simply a breeding machine. These were things that powered her to swim faster and to keep the determination within her alive and strong.
Once they had swam far enough south, it was time to turn. They swam around the pack lands that belonged to the Valyn pack and made sure to keep enough distance that if they were seen, though she hoped they wouldn't be, they wouldn't be seen as trespassers. To trespass was not her goal and it was the last thing she needed. She now had more than enough enemies in Kairos to last a lifetime, she didn't need more. They swam to the east and, though she could feel herself begin to tire, she needed to stay strong. They still had a while to go and if she gave into the thoughts trying to take over her mind, she would never make it.
Just as she was beginning to slow in pace, she looked ahead and, in amazement, spotted land. "We're almost there," she shouted back to her daughter, her pace once more picking back up. They could do it, she knew they could. The first half of their escape was almost over, they only had a little bit more to go. The water was still as calm as it had been when they set out a couple hours before and she couldn't believe how lucky they had been. She only hoped they would continue to be as lucky.
The Kiva had spotted was only a couple of feet away now and as they swam towards the shore, she could tell the land was not claimed and she almost cried in relief. That meant they could stop for a while, hunt, sleep, and recharge. "Thank you Abandinus" she audibly muttered. Crawling onto the dry shore, she was quick to collapse, giving into the exhaustion that took over her form. Yet all the while, the smile on her face was one of pride and determination. They had completed the first half of their journey and she was certain they could handle anything that was thrown at them from then on out.
An hour after she had first collapsed, she slowly got to her feet and looked around. She wanted to stay as close to the Shore as she could but she knew they needed food. She ordered Sasha to stay put and rest while she went on a hunt. She could tell within just a couple of minutes that hunting would not be on their side in this land. There was nothing there, including grass. The area was barren, full of rocks. She immediately crossed off any chance of finding large pray and set her sights on finding rabbits. It was well over an hour before she found even one rabbit, though it was an easy kill and she instantly tore into it, even licking the bones clean. It was another hour or two before she found the next two rabbits and though it was with some difficulty, she was able to catch them both. She took them both and made her way back to Sasha before telling her to eat one now and one in the morning. Then with that, she curled up beside her and was quickly lost in a deep slumber.
The next morning, she woke up to pouring rain. It was raining so hard one could barely see five feet in front of them. She snarled with anger as she woke up her daughter. On any other day, she would have stayed put, knowing better than to wonder out in that mess. But that day was different. She knew each second they remained on that land, they risked Kairos coming closer to them. The land, even though it was a good bit away, was still too close for her to consider it safe. Not to mention, it was wide open, it offered no protection. The only good thing about the rain was that it would wash away their scents. But knowing she had to face it, she made her way back to the water.
"Stay as close to me as you can, I won't be able to hear you and I may not be able to see you," she warned her daughter before wading out into the water. The current was stronger than before but they could still manage to swim through it, they just had to be careful not to use all their energy at once. With a hard swallow, Kiva began swimming back the swam way they came the day before before turning and swimming around the land they had stayed on. She swam steadily, her legs working hard under her. The fact she really couldn't see in front of her scared her but she just kept swimming a straight line. She hoped Sasha was behind her but there was no point in turning around to look.
Hours had gone by before the storm lifted, hard rain turning to a steady drizzle. The silver feme was already exhausted despite her efforts not to show it. She was relieved to see her daughter wasn't too far behind her and, slowing down so she could catch up, she made the last turn in their journey, now swimming north. The current became even stronger once they turned and she struggled to fight against it. She could see land up ahead but knew it was better they stayed in the water as long as possible.
Her tounge fell limp out of her slightly open muzzle and her legs moved slowly under the water. The only thing that kept her going was spotting her destination not far ahead and to the left. It was surrounded by mountains and the ocean and she knew that was the safest bet from Kairos. Once they arrived, she barely had the energy to climb out of the water before once more collapsing, this time immediately drifting off into a deep, unconcious like sleep.
