Things were changing so rapidly, and it was only a matter of time until the bubble burst around her. Surely things could not be falling so smoothly into place as they appeared. Surely, there had to be a catch somewhere.
The fact that two thirds of the pack was related to her helped in some ways. It was highly unlikely that her siblings would question their father's decision to allow her to step into the roll of alpha of both packs. The merging of their two families was, in effect, bringing the family back together once more. While Val was still resentful of her father's former decisions, he was at least doing right in recognizing her capability to lead. Perhaps this would be good for everyone involved, but that did not mean she was not still waiting for the other shoe to drop. There had to be a downside in here somewhere.
In truth, there was a bit of Valeria that was glad to be back. She could remember her days as a pup, wandering the plains of Kamari aimlessly with their mother. There was never a dull moment with Zofia. They were virtually inseparable in their youth, and that had not changed over the years. Even in her brash decision to leave home, Zofia followed. It was her sister that kept her head level through all the turmoil, and she was certain that being surrounded by even more of her siblings would eventually become either too much or a comfort to her. But there was one sibling that her father had mentioned that Valeria was curious to be re-introduced to: Saphira.
It had been nearly two years since Valeria last saw her younger half-sister, and it was a bit surprising to the Seraphim to hear that her sister was still around these parts. Saphira always seemed to be a free spirit when she was young, and Val never thought she would be one to remain tied down to her birth pack. But perhaps she matured into a bright, level-headed young wolf, not much unlike her mother. While there was never a true replacement for Sarin, she had cared dearly for Atriell in her time with Descai. The white female was an intellectual enigma, challenging everyone and most importantly, keeping her father on his toes. She could tell the older male never really recovered from losing his mate, but she had no idea how that loss might have affected the younger female.
Would Saphira be happy to see her? Would she even remember Valeria any more? It would be impossible to believe they were not related, as the golden fur that graced both their faces indefinitely linked them together. But she knew nothing about her sister, and what was worse about that than her younger brothers, was that she had known her once, and now they were strangers.
