Travel could take a tole on even the most able of bodies. The young could only travel so long and this winter didn't seem to be letting up anytime soon. The dust colored brute felt his legs begin to wobble in the deep snow. Fatigue was setting in and he needed shelter soon. He found himself among the Niall Caverns. Foreign to the young brute, but comforting as it called out to him. Offering warmth and safety from this winter squall. Bright yellow eyes shone like coins against his dark pelt. Relief and joy filled him as he pulled his lithe but muscular mass along to the nearest cavern. He raised his maw to the air and scented the winds billowing from within. He detected the scent of wolves, but it was weak so they may have moved on.
Delighted with his luck, Eithne carefully stepped into the enclosed space. It was enough for two so he could stretch out, comfortably. Starting with the tip of his maw, a shudder rippled through his black and brown peppered pelt, shaking the traces of winter from the course hairs. Having the snowflakes lifted from him, caused a small but welcome shift in body temperature. He moved further back from the mouth of the cavern, ducking away from the screeching winds. Sniffing each corner to be sure he was alone, he reclined to his haunches, gaze shifting over his shoulder. A brief pause as he double checked his surroundings. Then his forelegs slid along the cool stone, an ivory stomach coming to rest and absorbing some of the warmth. His body temperature warmed and absorbed into the stone, bringing it right back to him.
A pleased hum rumbled in his chest, curling one paw under and shifting to curl a bit more into himself. He was content to wait out the sudden squall. He would wait for the snow and biting winds to ebb before returning to his travels. He was far from home. Rather what was home to him. He never truly considered anywhere home. They were always on the move. This cave was shelter, as was the many dens they found. He wasn't sure what one would consider a home. Maybe a pack? Somewhere with a mate? It was a novel concept, of course. He had family and love but home was never a pack or one place. He supposed he would find out someday. For now, the brute was content to fall into repose, letting his muscles uncoil and shiver as they warmed. He supposed a nap would help, but he couldn't shake a sudden feeling in his stomach. Something just wasn't right and he couldn't rest until he was sure it wasn't a threat.
