He was unsure how long they had been walking, but the sun still hadn't fully set yet. The sky was growing darker, but the hints of reds and oranges still glowed over the landscape. It was at least late evening, and the snow had given way to sand and water. Unsure of what to do next, Requiem paced back and forth on the sands of the beach for several minutes. In the distance, not far from the coast a small island could be seemed. It looked warm and inviting, like an oasis in the desert.
Unfortunately, the island presented a bit of a challenge. It was sure to be safer than the mainland but they would have to swim to get to it. He didn't know how deep the water between Ina'mos Island and Anikira was, and with the winter air it would take a while for their pelts to dry. The last thing Requiem wanted was to catch a chill, and he wouldn't forgive himself if Eudoxia ended up sick. Still, his flight mechanism was telling him that that island was the safest place they could be at the moment. It was new, unexplored territory. He doubted many had bothered to travers its terrain yet, and the pair would definately be able to breath easier in a land untouched by others.
Stealing a glance at Eudoxia, he finally made up his mind. Chancing the icy waters was better than remaining on the mainland. The island wasn't that far, and maybe they could find some sort of unusually warm area that would dry them off sooner. Taking a deep breath, the Arctic brute steeled his nerves as he charged head first into the sea. A shocked growl rumbled from his throat at the unexpected temperature and he couldn't help but shiver. The waters were chilly upon impact. He couldn't slow, however, and continued to push forward. The longer he was in the water, the less the temperature really bothered him. In truth the ocean was warmer than the air. It wasn't long before his paws felt sand again and he pulled himself onto the shore.
So this was it, Ina'mos Island. This was the result of the volcano's eruption. Requiem shook out his fur, spraying salty water everywhere as he tried to chase away to coldness of the winter breeze. His lone eye took in the area, the sleeping saplings and dying grass. The land was more open than he would have liked, but their forms would be hard to see from the mainland so it was surely safer than remaining in the Chamoru Plains.
After several minutes of repetative shaking he turned to look towards the sea, wondering if the Arctic femme had followed him. She probably thought him crazy for charging into the water like that. Then again, she knew he wasn't of the most sound mind to begin with. The question was, did she trust him to find them a safe harbor? Neither one of them delt well with others, so it wouldn't be surprising if she didn't follow him in this crazy endeavor.
