Bardou felt another cramp start up in his leg as he moved through the prairie grasses. He huffed and closed his eyes, letting his head hang down in a brief moment of defeat. Too early... it was too early. The morning chill worked its way into his bones, into his leg, and it made him feel his age. He considered padding a little flat place in the snow to lie down on and sleep through the morning stiffness, but that would mean skipping breakfast. It was highly unlikely he'd even catch breakfast, or lunch, or dinner... so he couldn't waste the day. No, those ribs showing on his sides proved that he couldn't waste any chances to hunt, even in a pack's territory.
Honestly, he was too tired and famished to detect the scent markers. Had he noticed them, Bardou surely would have howled out of courteous. But, he hadn't. That long exhausting walk through the mountains probably had something to do with his added fatigue. A lot to do with it, actually. Bardou shouldn't have even attempted clambering through the mountains with a leg like his, but he kept telling himself that the ledges would smooth out... eventually. They didn't though, and soon the male wolf with his aching muscles had to double back. He was too hungry to let himself rest, but by the time he'd started a new route through the Boryz Prairie, Bardou was almost too tired to hunt. And now, he felt an assortment of ailments weighing heavy on his body. He wanted food. He wanted rest. He wanted the damn weather to stop torturing his joints! But most of all, he wanted home.
The six year old wolf started up his trudging again once the cramp subsided. Though still tired, he was now encouraging by the light rustling that now pricked his ears and engaged a flick from his bushy tail. Only small animals made those little sounds. Bardou snuffed with his nose until he caught the scent of rabbit. He salivated, rather pleased with his fortune. However, there were pros and cons to this find: rabbits were fast, yet small enough for a lone wolf to catch. He certainly couldn't manage a deer in his physical condition, so he had to make a dive for the rabbit. Bardou forced himself lower to the ground, his muscles protesting as he did so, and slunk towards what he hoped was an unsuspecting rabbit.
