Sly slept peacefully next to his mother. The heat from the water had kept him warm during the night while his mother died and her body went cold. He dreamed of the day before. His mother picking him up and running fast across a place she told him never to go. He was scared about what was going on but became happier when the pool came into view. Steam was coming off from it and warmed him from the wind. He wanted to explore but his mother told him stay and sleep. His skinny body appreciated the warmth from the pool while he slept. He was skinny but his mother was skinnier than him and he had been worried.
Sly awoke with a start. He had heard a noise that woke him up. He was used to waking up by noises because his mother usually wanted to move if they were heard. He felt his mother's coldness on his back. He knew something was wrong. He got up and sniffed her. Usually she was awake by now but she wasn't moving. Her life had left this world and he knew it. She had explained it to him before when they saw on when he was little. What do I do? Why is she gone? What have I done? These questions went through his head, Each more confusing than the last. Leaving him in pain he whimpered softly. Now thinking selfish thoughts of how she shouldn't have left; he tried to wake her up. Trying to push her up with all of his might, but it never worked. She was to heavy to move and he was to malnourished to even have the strength to do it. He gave up and layed down out of breath. He began whimpering again with nothing else to do and nowhere to go. He layed his head down next to hers and stayed there watching the pool with sadness.
