Zitao, as always, had been watchful as he carried out his punishment, and he looked at her with a frown. The damage he had done was no small injury, and yet, save for a few gasps and muted whimpers, she had remained stubbornly silent. "Anima" he sighed, voice sounding exasperated "Do not hold in your whimpers. I want to hear you when I punish you. Understood?" He did enjoy seeing how he affected her, both mentally and physically. The defeated look in her eyes, the way she squirmed and gasped between his teeth. It was entertaining, and he could do it as much as he liked. To him, She was a toy, to be played with and discarded. Nothing more. Not that she needed to know. He needed her to feel dependent, to think that he genuinely cared for her. It would make it easier for her to care for him, thus leading to less of a possibility of future run away attempts. It was all so logical.
He couldn't say that he wasn't pleased when finally he began to see her break. Her body trembled, whether out of defeat or pain, or more likely both. Her legs gave out, sinking her to the ground. Tao looked down upon her, his face once again a blank slate, eyes distant. He did not get up to comfort her, nor did he scoff at her weakness. He needed her to learn to come to him for comfort, so that he was her crutch. In that dependence, loyalty would flourish, and she would be caught in his web, completely at his mercy. How delightful.
"Are you?" Zitao murmured, his voice flat, "All I hear you say is yes, sorry, I understand. And yet, here we are. What if I hadn't found you, Anima? Would you really be ready to face the world alone again?" He inwardly giggled. He sounded like he was scolding an unruly child. "Did I not promise you safety in my arms? I punish you when I have to, for you to learn, to become better. Other than that, have I ever laid a paw on you? Despite this, all I receive in return is betrayal."
A deep sigh slid past his lips, his face twisting in bitterness. Inside, however, he was laughing. She was broken. The first time was always the hardest, and there was still the possibility of a relapse, but he had done it. And he could do it again.
